So, my journey is beginning to take shape after 35 yrs of denial and struggle that we all know to turn the other way. I have a wife of 11 yrs and 4 kids ages 8 - 17. We are in SC with little trans support to be found. I came out to my wife as transgender about 5 months ago. She's known of my need to wear undergarments, but had no idea it had anything to do with gender identity. Right now she is supportive, not really knowing how to be. Just her willingness is enough for me. Unsure about transition timeline as my wife wants to stay and support, but baby steps are needed; and then the kids, oh and I forgot to mention I'm in ministry. Whew!  I'm so glad I'm here!

Hello and welcome.  I'm glad you found us!  That's nice that your wife is supportive.  Remember she is on this journey with you so remain considerate to hold her support.  Baby steps are very good, it's what I and many others here took.  Take the time to figure out where you are on the gender spectrum and how far you want or need to go.  I would seek out a gender counselor to help you along.  It's helped me immensely.  Maintaining your family may guide some of your decisions.  Being in the ministry and in SC sounds like a difficult situation.  If you decide to go "public" you may find a move to a more tolerant area is in your best interest.   I see were a musician and performer.  That's awesome.  Please join in the conversation when you can.  We're here for you.

Thanks Jani! Yes, SC and ministry have their challenges, but I feel like my background with Christianity is just part of my journey. I am not ashamed and don't feel as though the faith is condemning- it is the people that are. I started seeing a gender therapist right after I told my wife. She attends with me from time to time. It is incredibly helpful. A move after the kids are all grown and gone may be a good idea. I haven't had much drive over the past couple of years so music has really suffered. That's changing now since I have opened up to my wife and receive her acceptance. Thanks again Jani.

I'm glad you're on track. That's so good.  So what "did" you use to do musically?  Guitar or keyboard?  Got to get back to it!  Music is a savior for me.

I am primarily a guitar player, all styles. Was a classical guitar major in school. Trying to get there. It is frustrating when my chops aren't what they used to be. LoL

Welcome. I'm originally from SC so understand that the resources can be hard to find. Fortunately, the political climate there right now appears to be better for us.

Welcome Stuck.  Glad you found us and thanks for sharing a bit of your journey.  This is never easy but few things worthwhile have been in my life.  My wife of 45 years is still by my side even in the ladies room.  Glad your getting therapy and have some support.  You are not alone in this journey.

Hugs,

Charlize

Welcome! I'm a married mtf as well and just north of you in NC. I came out to my wife last June, but no kids for us. I've been working hard to help my wife understand. Be patient, talk to her when she seems ready to talk, stop talking when she seems overwhelmed, and be honest. She may just surprise you! Good luck on your journey, I look forward to talking with you more!

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the encouragement. I'm trying to work T suppression into a conversation right now. We usually just spend a few minutes discussing. We came up with a code word,  "oysters", to use when either of us want to talk about it. It works pretty well. So far she has surprised me. It's not all butterflies and sunshine, but encouraging none the less. I look forward to future talks too!

Hon, as rough as this whole journey can be, try to enjoy as much of it as you can. May I ask why she doesn't understand why you need to underdress? Sounds like a discussion is in order. :)

I've been in therapy for over two years and HRT for 6 months, it's been a wild ride so far!

"Exstatic" is an adjective that means feeling great rapture or delight. For example, "His wife gave birth to their first child, and he was ecstatic about it". Synonyms of "ecstatic" include rapturous, entranced, enthusiastic, and frenzied.

Absolutely. Being able to encourage, to help, others is so empowering. I've been helped by so many people over the years, I love being able to pay it forward.

Good morning, everyone!!   A busy day ahead for me - need to cut the grass and then pick up the clippings. The grass grows so quickly this time of year. I cut almost 7 acres so that will take up most of my day. At least I can get some sun on my legs and arms!!   Time for another cup of coffee as I catch up here.   Enjoy this beautiful day we've been given.

I started shaving my legs years ago - I started getting an occasional mild contact rash on my shins. That became my excuse to shave them for both me and my wife. Over time, the rash didn't expand...but my shaving did. Full legs....groin......chest......and finally my arms. Keeping the rash at bay was my excuse until I came out to my wife. Now I typically do a full shave on Sunday mornings. The hair is lighter but I just feel better with it gone - it helps with the dysphoria and dysmorphia. I will also typically do a chest touch-up mid week since I notice the growth more there.   I wish someone would invent a pill that would stop hair growth everywhere except on your head.

Good morning.   im not sure where the time went.  I had a decent nights sleep,  didn’t  tell Alexa to let me sleep another 5 minutes,  I didn’t do anything extra but it’s almost time to leave and I just got here.  Definitely only a one cup morning.    I have the overhead console out of the Ford. It needed some repairs with toothpicks and glue.  Been sitting all night t for the glue to harden. I’m always to impatient with glue but not this time.  I want it to hold. Ok the next owner won’t be able to change the lightbulbs however in my defense, the are led so they will likely still work when the car goes to the salvage yard.   gotta go. Not as much on my plate at work today but it’s always busy.   Willow

Yes, my programmer friends and I think that antivirus software is a virus.  It's constantly searching your system and slowing it down.  If you install your own OS and software on your machine, and you make backups of your personal files, then you can recover from viruses in an hour or two.  My computer is 10+ years old and is working as good as the first day I had it.   As long as my computer is doing what I want it to do, I don't care if someone is spying on my system.

If you get a ticket, always say not guilty and go to court. Much of the time, the officer will not show up, and often the district attorney or the judge will not want to take the time. They ticket harvest because most people just agree to the fine and send them a check by mail.   If you are not a commercial driver, Most states also have a ticket forgiveness program. You take a little easy Driver's Ed Course, and it doesn't go on your record or increase your insurance prices. Explore your options!

Shaving my legs (very early on) was the first BIG STEP in my self-affirmation.  It also felt Real and Natural ... Finally (after all my years with fairly hairy legs). My wife was shocked but I think she thought it was 'OK' as long as didn't go any farther ... well that wasn't going to happen.  It was actually Step 1 of many to follow.  I did feel the need to hide it from others but eventually didn't care.  And, men shaving their legs is much more common these days. Home IPL (laser) made the hair removal permanent over the course of a year or so.  Whatever was leftover has been reduced to peach-fuzz by HRT. I don't deny or reject all my years living in the realm of cis-males ... it was part of my Journey to get to where I am today.  But since committing to HRT and living in an environment and community that supports my transition, I find it difficult to go back into Boy-mode.  The times that I do have to do that ... I can feel the dysphoria rising up again.  No going back ... at this point.
