I May Have Gotten Myself Into Something A Little More Than I Was Looking For

I had received information that there was a Trans* Support Group that was meeting only a few blocks from where I live in the hall of a church that is welcoming to LGBT folks.  The church address is used as the address of an LGBT Community Center.  After trying to E-mail them over a couple of months and getting no response I stopped by the church and asked at its office about the Community Center and was told that a Regional Pride organization rents space for evening meetings from the church, but that they were not on the site during the day and were strictly tenants along with a few other groups.  The church secretary did take my personal card and gave me the web site address which belongs to the parent organization.  I went to their web-site at home and found that while it mentioned the day one place, just below on the time of the next meeting it gave a different date than the Thursday it was supposed to be.  Of course I went on the date it showed, and found out the meeting had been the night before. :doh1:  By this point, my old detective habits of tracing down organizations kicked me in the tush, and I made a last try at phoning the one phone number on the web-site, but some twist of fate it was answered by a real person, who had gotten my business card at the church, and who told me he had asked another "Board Member" to contact me several days before, but I had not gotten the response.  My business card is an attempt to do some consulting for a variety of groups that would like to include Trans* Folks in things and looks better than it really is just now.  I told the man a little bit about my history and what I was interested in, and he promised to e-mail the other people he had shown the card to immediately and tell them about my desire to get to know them.  He did check and even to his surprise found the date confusion on the site.

About  20 minutes after I talked to him I did get his E-mail to the others, but his opening line nearly floored me.

I would like to tell you folks that I think I have found a new Facilitator for the Transgender Support meeting!!

That was not quite what I had talked to him about, but the thought does not scare too badly.  A few hours later, one of the other mail recipients actually got back to me and invited me to their monthly leadership meeting in July which is on a date I can handle.  I just have this feeling that maybe the facilitator for the Trans* group is not Trans* which could cause a problem.  I did go to a service project they were doing for a youth group that was putting on a Queer High School Graduates party and the folks are nice enough, but I can see some ot the group's little weak points.  What the hell am I getting myself into.  I just wanted to go to a group meeting once a month.  WTH.

What do they say? "My drill sergeant told me never to volunteer!" (No, I wasn't in any armed forces, just quoting something).;)

Life is an adventure, Vicky, or a box of chocolates, or, um, something or other.   In any case, if things get weird you can always back away.  Good luck, hon!

Vicky I can't think of a better person to give this apparently disorganized group the guidance and organization they need. So many of us have anxiety issues it doesn't take much for people to become disheartened with a group and drift away. Don't know how good it's going to be for you but  I'm sure you will be a true Godsend for the group

I was one of the first to discuss the idea of a Trans support group locally with a LGBT group. But I never found out anything more about it for a few months. The organizers said they were trying to find a place to have it and were waiting to hear back from a one place which was the church where they hold the meetings at. I don't attend the meetings on a regular basis because of the leadership and how they run it. There is nothing planned a head of time unless they are showing a movie then discussing it afterwards. Either wise everyone is doing their own thing and they talk about what ever. But I have found that I am not the only one who doesn't attend the group much.

I agree. This law is impractical and impossible to evenly enforce without such ridiculous measures in place. What it will do is stigmatize the trans community in Oklahoma and nothing more but ofc, that’s the only point of it.   If I was in that state and needed a restroom, there’s no chance I’d ever step foot in the men’s restroom because of some law. I know I’m not alone in that thinking. This law won’t stand the test of time.

I asked AI to create an image of myself 30 years younger based off my avatar on another site and this was the result:     Wow! I am amazed how close it got my 30 year old face!

Quite true.  The amusing thing about opposites is how similar they can be.   My family left Greece because of the conflict between the communists and the militarists/fascists.

This wouldn't even be a problem if they would just leave us alone.  It is a no-brainer.

OMG.  I'm glad it wasn't worse, and you were able to get on it quickly.  Lots of blood can be scary.

Like I said, I'm no tankie, but I do see a world of difference between Joseph Stalin and Bernie Sanders.   If the point is not wanting 'government control' the Right is pretty good at that themselves - as they've been demonstrating lately. This stuff gets complicated.

So, I am curious. Is the Governor going to mandate vaginal or penile recognition photos before one enters the restroom? Considering the Governor has no balls to do the right thing, will he have to pee against a tree outside? Inquiring minds would like to know. I love it when the job recruiters contact me about the wonderful jobs available in Oklahoma. It is so much fun telling them there is no way I will ever go to Oklahoma. When there are no workers, then they can shutter the place.

Ngl, probably Sonic the Hedgehog, the Beatles, or the Monkees. Those are the three subjects I know the most about so I could drop hours of info on them.

Isaac Asimov, Albert Einstein and Robert Kennedy, in that order.

Thank you! I'm out of coffee so I have been drinking hot tea instead. Looking forward to the 1st. It's crazy that we are almost in May. This year has flown by really quick! Good to hear that y'all got to sleep in. Hope you have a good weekend too!

It's nice to care about others but you need to live your life as you please. No one be your only source of happiness. Love yourself and don't look back. I lost over 40 family members it hurts but apparently, they didn't truly love me. True love will always be there through the thick and thin. I can honestly say that HRT has made me think in ways that I never thought I would. I get myself some shoes or clothes every month because retail therapy not only helps but it is a reward to myself to show love. I have over 100 dresses. I have a whole walk-in-closet full of clothes and 67 pairs of shoes. I love who I am. I was born in 84 so not all people in the 80's think that way. As far as the name just take your time and be happy with it. I knew I loved the name Ashley. Take care and welcome!

Congratulations Sam,   The common saying her once someone starts HRT is: “Enjoy the ride.”   Best wishes, stay positive and motivated    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
