Do I need a letter for hrt? I called a doctor I found and she said people bring in letters.

So I'm assuming I have to see my gender specialist and get a letter from her first?

A referral for HRT doesn't hurt from a licensed therapist and in many cases required. If the practicing Dr accepts "Informed consent" you won't need a letter. Informed consent means you acknowledge the risks (sign a form). Many Dr's and clinics use this approach these days. Good luck

Read as much as you can (these forums are VERY helpful), watch youtube videos from other trans women, and I'd suggest getting your hands on "Trans Bodies, Trans Selves" - one of the best resources out there.

Good luck on your journey!!!

1, Be honest with yourself.

2. Do what you need to do to be yourself, not some label.

3. This is not a race, take as much or as little time as you need.

4. What others think of you is their issue, not yours.

5. Thrift stores are great when first putting together a wardrobe.

6. Find someone to help with make-up was very helpful to me..

7. Voice training takes a lot of practice.

8. Your transition is yours alone, no one person has the same experience.

Everything Marcie writes is spot on correct.  By and far the most important is to be honest with yourself and your therapist and eventually your endocrinologist.  While this is not a race, that one attribute will help move you forward faster than holding back.

Also as an aside, if you haven't started on facial hair removal, please do.  It is a long process and it will go a long way towards making you feel good about yourself, privately and certainly in public.

Good luck at your first appointment!
