Hello from Singapore!

Hi everyone. I'm Dalton, I'm new here, and am a trans guy.

In 8th grade, I started to come out, and I met two LGBT+ friends who helped me do that. However, I go to an international school, so they moved at the end of that year, so I felt uncomfortable being out in high school. So, for the whole of 9th grade, I ignored my feelings of dysphoria and basically put the feeling of being trans to the back of my mind. However, (no surprise there) I couldn't do that for long, as in 10th grade, a few months ago, I started telling my friends at school that I was trans* or genderqueer (as I didn't really know my identity back then). But because I live in Singapore, and it's not very LGBT+ inclusive here (there's a hecking law against being a gay man publically, even though the government says they don't enforce it that law contributes to making the general public more closed-minded against LGBT+ folk), it's been hard. Since I'm also under 16 years old, I can't go to support groups in Singapore, so I was hoping to find transgender youth forums (preferably Singaporean ones, but that's not very likely to happen) to get support and/or help, because you have to be (at least) 16 or older to get any help whatsoever on LGBT+ topics. For example, I know of an LGBT+ library in the area, but you have to be 18 or older to check out books, so I'm bringing my mom to help me do that.

But, in other news, I like drawing, specifically drawing anthro animals, and I like listening to punk pop or indie rock music.

Hello Dalton and welcome.  Thank you for the informative intro.  It says a lot and you seem quite informed about the rules in your country.   I think its awesome that your mom would be willing to go to the library with you to further your research.  You mention telling your friends of your status and thats good.  Also not fully understanding where you are on the trans* spectrum is all right.  It seems many of us go through an exploratory period in our lives where we look to find our place.  Take your time, read a lot and interact with others as you can.  You will settle in to your happy and safe space soon enough.

Please join into the conversation.  I'm sure you can tell us a lot!

Hi Dalton

Welcome :)

Thank you for the introduction. You will find many friendly folk here who are familiar with your situation, even if they know little about your local conditions and resources. It is good to get family onside, if possible, as you will feel more comfortable and relaxed. People's reactions are not always predictable though and sometimes they react very negative in the short term, although most  live with as time goes on. I find it is often to take things gently and read the reactions.

Don't hesitate to join in. We all help each other and  everyone learns a lot.

I love drawing and art too. I generally draw people and fashion more than anything else

Welcome Dalton.  Singapore always seemed such an interesting place to me.  I'm sorry to hear that it has such repressive attitudes towards the LGBTQ community.  I'm glad you are finding the ability to speak to your friends and find some support there.  We are here and happy to help as we can.  Glad you've joined us.

Hugs,

Charlize
