There is a legal principal here that has me really scratching my head, and that is how parents have a twit in twiddle dee dee defending the privacy of their teenagers.  Are the kids asking them to do this??  I have a sneaking suspicion the kids do not, and mom and dad are spending money in donations to ADF that could better go to college savings funds for the kids.

Parents have an obligation to defend the rights of their children, and are expected to speak on their behalf and make decisions for them, right up until that magic age of 18 when suddenly it's presumed that children have all that decision making ability themselves. Whether a child is actually offended or not, a parent is offended on their behalf. The same is true if a trans student sues--their parents are suing in their name.

What I found interesting is the school system got sued on both sides. One for having a trans inclusive policy and the other for not adhering to it.

Sadly, I already did know this, Guardian Ad Litem is really an old friend, and it is a concept that had its uses IN THE PAST.  I just wonder if it is one that's time is past since I do see it being abused by parents looking for a convenient vehicle to do things the parent would love to do IF they had a legal leg to stand on.  ADF would be sucking eggs without this legal fiction to go for.

Without this legal fiction, minors would be entirely helpless, as they lack the legal capacity to sue themselves. Trans students who ran into problems with their schools' policies, for instance, would have no redress.

Sometimes, the very ancient has reached a time to change even in small ways and can be be changed by legislation for specific needs, Dropping the "age of majority" for specific actions is an easy fix that I will not see in my remaining life span, but as our system evolves (hopefully) it needs to. Yes, I am suggesting a major legal revolution!!  I know it won't happen in my lifetime, but we are seeing abuses of the legal system that can be fixed.
