Spring is coming!

I often get depressed as the days get shorter.   Although the holidays often raise spirits of others i often find that the stresses of family and the pressure of entertaining makes me even a bit more depressed.  Fortunately we have a tradition on the farm of making maple syrup.  Oddly it often snows , the weather is grey and the ground is muddy (mud season).  Even so the sap starts to rise as the freeze- thaw cycles of early spring begin.  When i spend time outside in the woods i get to see the world begin to wake to the new warmth of lengthening days.   The skunk cabbage plants are actually breaking ground t the edge of the streams.

Anyway we collect sap and then boil often late into the night.  Today there is wifi so i get to reach out to others as the evenings draw on and i feed wood to the evaporator.  Boring at times but just another sign that spring is coming and soon i'll welcome warm breezes around a shorter skirt.

Hugs,

Charlize

I agree Charlize. My partner and I were only discussing the other day Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and that we were being affected by it. It has been very wet and dull here most days since Christmas. I was cheered up looking at my snowdrops in flower at the weekend, and the sun is shining this morning :) I will really know when my cacti in the front window start flowering.

Here at 47n, we've gotten our daylight hours increasing finally (about 9.5 hours now). SAD is real, especially around these parts. I go outside everyday and do my 5 miles, it's nice to be out raining or not, our lilac tree has new buds forming already. Charlize you look quite happy there. I look forward to the summer hiking season, and life renews.

I am so looking forward to spring. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be in sight.  At the moment, it's snowing. Wind gusting to 30 MPH and the temperature is 20 degrees F.

Greetings from the north country!

This sounds kind of strange to me here in Michigan. We are in the traditionally coldest part of the winter season. The ground is frozen and snowcovered, and up home in Baldwin this is the stretch of winter we get our -20 degree nights.:D, or is it ! Mapple syrup season is a month away. My NA sponsor used to live next to an Amish farm and I'd see the buckets on every mapple tree. This years weather has been so crazy I almost wonder if the sap may have started flowing.

But here is a sure sign of springs approach; two Sunday's ago the sun rose in Barrow!

I actually lament the lengthening of the days. I love sitting with a fire in the stove, (ok, here in my appartment all I can have is an electric stove with a fake fire:(, but the ambiance is still nice), and a candle burning with the lights off and some music on! I'm just a child of the night!:D

I am starting to yern a bit for spring though. I just wish summer's heat and humidity didn't have to follow. For myself, I prefer cold and snow over that.❄⛄

Lots of love,

Timber Wolf?

Carla, I totally understand your emotions concerning the seasons.  Each one has it's unique pleasures.  While I don't have a fireplace I do enjoy snuggling up with a warm blanket for a nap.  Music by candle light sounds so nice.   Although I like summer I too abhor the extreme heat and humidity.   But I'm ready now for the change in seasons.  Bring it on!

I've become increasingly affected by this time of year for the last 10 years or so. General ennui, lack of energy and a just generally gloomier outlook. It's been helpful recognizing the pattern, though, as it makes it easier to see it for what it is: something that will pass and get better, and something that (luckily) is not my normal state of being.

Thanks for posting this Charlize! It helps to know others are going through the same thing. And I LOVE that photo!

Not a quote, but a poem; "Invictus," by William Henley.  I had it hanging on the wall of my office for many years.   "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul."

I am ambidextrous. I learned to write righty in school so I usually write with my right hand but my handwriting is better if I use my left hand. I use a lefty mouse. I am physically stronger in my left side.

Easy, I have felt the same way, not quite to the point of wanting to quit but sitting there one dosing morning and thinking "what am I doing?". I am in a crazy place right now; family is moving across the country, I am being laid off for the first time in my career and have to find a new job, and I'm in the middle of this gender journey that seems like it makes everything harder than it could be. I'd always been a "man with boobs", even when I was in my 20s and really skinny I had breast tissue, and now I'm accepting of that and want more but in a different way--I don't want to be a man with boobs, I want something different. I am something different, but it's hard because of nearly a half-century of social programing. So I empathize with your struggle, very directly.   I haven't dressed "male" for nearly six months and I just volunteered at a conference with my femme nickname and she/her pronouns on my name lanyard. The whole experience was great, I didn't feel a minute of anxiety or worry. That stuff comes at home, when left to my thoughts. Which is more telling? The comfort being Mae in public or the doubts and worry in private?   When I look in the mirror and see this more feminine me, it calms down the doubts and worry, so I'm starting to allow myself to trust in the former.

Totally!  I started HRT 21 months ago.  I'm 53yo now.  I mostly did not want the feminine genes of my family to take me over.  I told my doctor I wanted athletic breasts.  She has kept me on fairly low doses and I'm avoiding progesterone so far.   It's mostly mental for me.  Taking the pressure off from not having erections is soothing and changes my thinking.  I just want that stuff gone.  I had fun with it, but I'm over it.   I'm extremely happy with what has happened with my breasts.  Perhaps it took more than a year, but they have a feminine, athletic appearance now.  I don't notice changes in the rest of my body.  I've always enjoyed being thin and straight and have no desire for curves.  I can dig that butch with a feminine touch look.  I was upset at cutting my hair, but I'm liking it now.   It's fun to see all these young transwomen in my environment.  Everyone has their own style and the younger generation has a style of their own compared to us older people.   OK, back to baking a pie and doing some knitting....

I have one daughter who is left handed.  But she is fairly ambidextrous.  Apparently you have to be.

The time I spent "on the street" was mostly in the woods.  I dislike cities.  Even now my "bathroom" is out in the back yard, and has been for years.  When you're used to it, it's not so bad.  Helps one keep up with the seasons. I have no desire to live on the street in a city. Most of my adult kids live in cities.  It's nice enough for a visit, but I still prefer the country.

It's amazing how we can use either hand to write with, not too many people can do that.

Y'all be holding pencils like left handed people but I just hold my pens/pencils in ways that make people go "what the actual [squid]"
    • Ladypcnj
Hi Ivy, I can relate to that holding my pencil in my left hand although I'm right-handed.
