We speak of the inroads the trans* community has made over the recent years and nowhere is this more evident than when mentioned in mainstream media.   Today while doing the crossword puzzle in the newspaper I see a clue "not trans" where the answer is "cis".

 

I can't imagine this being used just a couple years back.  As one of our friends was fond of saying, "slowly, slowly, catchee monkee."

It would be interesting to see how many people could complete as 'cis' is an unusual word in mainstream. I don't do crosswords so have little inkling how much people have to know.

Is it the NYT crossword? Because they like to use unusual or rare words, so I can totally see that being a thing. They're also reprinted in other newspapers I think. Very cool!

I don't recall where I came across that one.  I have recently been searching out puzzles on line, it's possible.
