Kansas State GOP Votes to Oppose Validating TG Identity

The republican party is making stands based on what they believe their base core wants. They hate (Bill) Clinton and Obama, and believe they couldn't defeat them because they were not rightwing enough. But their core base consists largely of aging voters who do not tend to want change. This is giving their party a lot of trouble recruiting new younger members. On average, the younger republicans don't tend to support the hard line attitude of the aging party leadership.

The aging republican party leadership feels their old steadfast views fading in the public eye. They are reacting the way most people do when they see the world they thought they had built slipping away from them by fighting to restore it. It's that last ditch effort invariably made when defeat is knocking at the door.

Because of the "old fogey" type image they are giving themselves, they are in serious danger of waning into a minority party, and possible eventual dissolution. As their aging base dies off, if they don't or can't attract new younger members in greater numbers than they currently do, their party will diminish and die.

The nation over all is slowly becoming more progressive, and this spells the death knell for the old guard of the republican party.

There is a saying, "All good things must come to an end". In this case, it's more like, "All bad things must come to an end". Things will change. It's just a matter of time.

Lots of love,

I remember that character who was rabidly pro Trump.  Yuck.

I found this sentence disturbing:

He said he was motivated by love to sponsor the resolution because he believes the GOP needs to be willing to stand up for its Christian principles."  I have grown up with the belief that there is a separation between church and state which not only seems to be eroding but also seems to be openly sponsored by one party.

That being said i also don't find this a very Christian principle.

This is something that is most disturbing to me that the GOP would contravene this "contract" we have had for over 200 years.  No good will come of this.

Lots of good points, Timber. I'll add that Democrats and Independents make up the majority in the U.S. and Republicans are acting out of fear. And unfortunately they have buckets of money to push their agendas. I'm hopeful though. The up and coming generations have clear and bold ideas - look at the student's response to the school shooting in Florida - and they will put the pressure on. All we have to do is survive our remaining time with the Great Orange One :)

"God's design for gender as determined by biological sex and not by self-perception,"

I find lines like that to be EXTRAORDINARILY disturbing when in direct relationship with government agendas.  Especially to a non religious person like myself, who though I have no problem with what anyone believes, do not believe in any religions per se.  To me this would be akin to making laws governing other humans lives.....with an acknowledged origin basis in a magical fairyland. That is to say, a self serving moral hierarchy created to subdue anyone who does not follow the same tenets.

I would label the overt and unabashed integration of church and state, especially in the midwest/deep south areas as a MAJOR priority needing addressed if this nation is going to move forward to foster a more progressive society.

But on a positive note....thank you League of Women Voters for bankrolling a potentially historic case in Penn. , which if you haven't seen the news, came to fruition yesterday and has led to a completely redrawn map for Penn.  Hopefully it is deemed legal and sets a precedence.....which has the potential to literally turn this country upside down in the best way possible....especially after a few election cycles.

Very hard for me to comment on anything (Canadian) accept the arrogance that someone believes they can speak to Gods Plan and invalidating someone who by there own beliefs is Gods Work.

i have been reading various religious based liturature lately and I get the idea the writers feel that by creating a villian or vilifying a demographic , somehow they will unite the general populous.

Tacky politicians engage in this without shame or conscience.

What's most disturbing is that it is espoused by the party that wants smaller government, i.e less intrusion in personal lives.  I guess only when it suits their agendas.
