Hi. I am new to this site. I am not exactly sure what I would call myself, and at 39 and having dealt with all of this confusion, dysphoria, ups, downs, trials, and tribulations I don’t think I really care anymore. I have come to terms with the fact that I am “different” and leave it at that.

Ive been in and out of counseling for the better part of my life (starting at 9yrs old) and have fought this, what I used to consider a disease, ever since. Well that is until my loving and beautiful wife.

She is the first person who knew who and what I was before dating me. Due to a crazy ex with a big mouth, but it is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. The freedom to simply be myself with someone has changed my outlook on everything!

Although I still have no idea what the future will bring, I am positive about myself, not wondering what’s wrong with me or who I am. No more dark feelings and I’ve taken steps (not steps that are not “correct” but that are helping me immensely) to become myself.

So with that,

hello my name is Kirsten. I’m 39, and I have an amazing wife, 2 kids, a full time career, and I’m happy. Scared maybe. But none the less happy.

Hello Kirsten and welcome.  I'm sorry to hear of your trials and tribulations but I'm glad to hear you are now happy and full of positive thoughts.  Having an understanding and supportive spouse is wonderful.   As JennyLynn notes, your story is probably similar to many of us here so you are among friends.  Being scared is a normal reaction to being out of a (dis)comfort zone that you've been in for so long.  It will pass.

I see you're a Celtics fan, can I assume you're a New Englander?  If so there are good resources here.  I'm glad you found us.  Please join into the conversation whenever you can.  We'd love to hear from you.

Cheers,

Jani

Welcome to Trans Pulse, Kristen.  It's wonderful that you have such a supportive and loving wife.  it is not as common a thing as we would all hope it was.  You are lucky, and so is she.

I hope you find what you are looking for here; I think you will.  Ask your questions, and we'll be here with some answers, and some kindness and support, too.

HUGS

Welcome Kristen.  I've found acceptance has brought me much more peace of mind than denial ever did.  Not an easy journey but with help it has been wonderful.

Therapy helped as did being active here,  both reading of others journeys and sharing my own.

Enjoy!

Hugs,

Charlize

Hi Kirsten!  So nice to meet you !

Your story sounds very familiar, I wish I’d had a therapist all along but I’ve suffered without, and my wife is my biggest supporting hero, without her I don’t know how I would do anything. I’m so happy that you’ve come to terms with who you are, it took me till the age of 46  to stop beating myself up  over perceived self flaws and problems. I will say that the people here are simply amazing, the best thing I ever did for myself was becoming part of this forum, and I look forward to talking about things every single day, I don’t think there’s been a single day that I didn’t login two or three times to check with friends and see who’s talking about this that or the other. I wish all the best for you, Please take good care of yourself!

Squishy hugs,

Jae
