Forum Software Upgrade 04/24/18

Hello!

 

The upgraded forum software has been installed!  As an added bonus, it only burped once during the process and I was able to convince it to behave again with hardly any profanity!

 

You'll notice changes - some big, some not so big.  From what I've seen so far, we can no longer just type in the trigger text for emoticons and have them automatically appear after we press the space bar.  It will display a dropdown list to choose from instead, and we have to click the one we're after.

 

Some features, like many of the widgets that appeared in the forum sidebar, are gone.  Many of the add-ons we used aren't compatible with the new forum code, and I was warned to get rid of them before the upgrade as that incompatibility would apparently have caused the server to devour itself.  Having seen that happen before, I didn't want to risk it.

 

If you run into any bugs or other issues with using the forums as you normally would, please comment here.  Thanks for your patience with the endless stream of software changes!

I see Vicky found the emoji I forgot to mention.  ?

 

If you click the emoticon button in the editor, there are a ton of new options, including our old favorites.

We have two choices. We can acknowledge that it's late and I just fought with the server for a while, or we can pretend I didn't just misspell Vicky's name. I'm going with door number two.

I see I've lost my clapping smiley face emoticon.? They're the same as the emoticons with my android phone, which I'll be using now as it's much faster and easier to access than the forum emoticons, although the forum ones may be slightly bigger. Oh well, I guess that's progress.?
