Progesterone cream

If they are over-the counter, the answer will be no effect or a harmful effect.  Other than saying that, our rules here prevent discussion of non-prescription medications since we have members, past and present who have been badly harmed by them. Creams that are prescribed by your doctor and monitored by them will need to be evaluated by that doctor and yourself.  Progesterone is a very controversial medication for  MtF Trans people and bonafide research on medically prescribed Progesterone is tending to show that we can spend our money on other medications to better effect.  Do follow your doctor's advice and take any meds as prescribed and it will help your transition run smoothly.

At a visit with my doctor at Fenway Health in February I asked about it as a supplement to my E.  Before asking I was aware of issues with depression and spotty results with some people.  He told me there was a strong correlation to depression and cancer.  He also said breast growth would primarily be via fat tissue not permanent breast tissue.   I've had cancer so that one element was it for me, but depression was a strong second.  Lastly I am lean with little body fat so it would have been a lost cause for me.   As Vicky states it is a controversial med for us. Talk to your doctor.

Progesterone is certainly not for me.  It is the form of E that is closely linked to heart trouble (clotting being foremost) and studies where it was used with women were stopped due to mortalities.  I hear of Trans folks experimenting or even MD's prescribing it and i just shake my head.  I'm fortunate to even to be able to use E and what i use is in fact a spray but i used a cream at one point.  They are not progesterone!

Progesterone didn't do much for my breast growth. High-dose Estradiol did all the work there.

Progesterone leveled out my mood swings though.

I'm on Estradiol-only-HRT now and I feel awesome. T is fully supressed and E is high.

High E gives me a very high sex drive lol

Charlize,

progesterone is not a form of E as you claim.

Progesterone is an apart hormone. It does not belong to the estrogen group. There are three estrogens : Estradiol, Estrone, Estriol.

But NOT progesterone.

@Charlize was NOT attempting to classify it as a form of estrogen, merely as a part of HRT regimens prescribed by some doctors, which it is.  On this forum, we are not professional bio-chemists, and unless it makes for a known health hazard we do not differentiate the classes of medication since we are not qualified health personnel.  The subject being addressed here is not changed by the mis-classification of drug type.  Whatever it is Progesterone is a controversial part of HRT here in the U.S.  Two weeks ago I was at a medical conference for care givers of Trans people and the controversial issues were addressed the way this topic has gone..

We are not professional biochemists, no, but at least one can do a little effort to read some literature on what they put in their body.

a little misclassification can have big health consequences.

That’s like not knowing that you take medication X for condition Z while the doctor prescribed you medication X for another condition than condition Z.

Progesterone is controversial to the state of California, who orders that everything that might cause cancer is listed with a special label. It’s not controversial over the entire USA.

Progesterone develops the milk ducts in cis women.

But we are not cis women, so yes, some MtFs might get an adverse reaction to progesterone.

I personally didn’t see any improvement in breast enhancement on it and that’s why I stopped it. Never had any adverse reaction to it.

The women’s health journal studies date back from before 2002. They used Medroxyprogesterone Acetate. They also used Premarin which is fancy horse piss in a capsule. That way the side effects went up and cancer risks went up.

There is a huge difference between a progestin and a micronized progesterone.

Micronized progesterone turns into neurosteroids like allopregnalone and helps with mood stabilization and well-being.

But other MtFs have adverse reactions like reoccuring masculinization on progesterone.

It’s a hit and miss.

My doctor prescribed it to me. It was expensive, so I asked her not to renew my prescription for micronized progesterone.

On Estradiol injections my breast growth got kickstarted again.

Everybody is different.

Everything can be toxic in the wrong dosages. Drinking too much water can also make you drawn.

That’s why we have doctors to guide us, instead of following the scare mongering from other MtFs who advocate loudly for their disapproval of a certain medicine. Only a doctor can tell you whether a certain medicine is appropriate for you or not.

Otherwise every self-declared scientific in each forum on the internet had earned a doctorate degree in no time...

Elissa.
