Trans Folk Refused Service At Nashville, TN IHOP

I doubt that I am un-readable by a long shot, but I go to an IHOP restaurant for breakfast about every two weeks with no trouble, and if I miss a usual week the wait staff asks me why I missed a day and are happy when I tell them I had to do an errand in a different direction on those times, and that I have been safe and healthy.  I also go to another store of theirs when I go to early morning doctor appointments at my HMO's local medical center and there the staff is not as sociable with any of the customers and I have heard upset customers getting a little loud at the servers.  Moral of the story is that different stores are different.  It does sound like the incident here was based on local prejudice toward the people, and probably fueled by our political garbage storm.

They are lucky that it wasn’t someone more like me. I would’ve sat in that damn restaurant all day. I would have been on the phone with them while I was in the establishment. And I would have sat there and laughed while they all got blasted by management for being donkeys!!! Then again I am a bit of a loud personality. ??‍♀️

Like Kirsten, I also would have been inclined to call the franchise owner, the store manager, and corporate, and blasted them on FB and Google while sitting right there. However, that is not a route to go unless you're prepared for them to retaliate by calling the cops and prepared to risk arrest upon police arrival, if the police and immediate management have the same attitude as the wait staff. Not to mention spit in your food. I'd want the whole thing recorded on multiple phones, preferably on a live stream.

When all was said and done, if eventually served I would then proceed to notify the server that I'd be making a donation to a local LGBT nonprofit in their name for the amount I'd have tipped them if they had done their job appropriately, unless another server or the manager actually served, in which case I'd have a word with the manager and make sure they don't do tip-sharing that would give a cut of what I tip to the jerks. That tipping piece would largely be for spite, of course.

I get that each store of any franchise is going to have their own culture but IHOP has been off my radar until now.  They WERE neutral.  Now they're doing damage control.  Compare that to Sephora (being discussed in another current thread) who are actively helping us from the top down.  It's obvious who your friends are if you look closely.

Sometimes it's a matter of damage control because what happened is off-the-wall and beyond the bounds of corporate culture. The question is, will they do barely-passable damage control, or something large and significant, as has been seen with Starbucks and Denny's regarding race discrimination?

It may simply come down to us being too small and powerless a minority to rate more than minimal damage control. Though they really did pick the wrong group of trans folks to do this to--activists for pete's sake! I have no doubt they (the victims in the incident) will see it through to hold IHOP accountable as far as practicable.

Being admitted into the hospital after a long ER visit. I started passing lots of blood and they are keeping me for observation.    Nurse came in to see about a condom catheter, that of course doesn't work on me. 🤣   She said, "I guess we will use incontinence supplies on you."

Yeah.  I think this is what it is about.  Since they are not transgender, nobody else could possibly be either.  I'm not sure that a cisgender person can understand being transgender.  But that hardly means that a transgender person's experience is not real - just because it is not theirs. Why is a transgendered person's experience not valid, while a cisgendered person's is?  Why should it be the cisgendered person that decides? Nobody is forcing a cis person to transition.  What I do for myself is my own business.

I've been thinking it is a matter of belief.  They simply do not believe someone can validly be transgender and should not be allowed to practice their beliefs, but should be forced to practice their belief, that is, that there is no such thing as transgender and it is all mental illness/sin/hormonal imbalance.

I am really kind of sick of everybody who is not transgender deciding on what we need and do not need in the way of procedures. They act like all of this is play acting, and we can just apply cosmetics to our entire body. It might be refreshing if someone asked us directly what services we need in order to transition. I could say more as I am frustrated, but I do not want to violate the TOS.

Good luck on selling your wife on the idea of a different car. This could be tougher than negotiating with a dealership.   My wife agreed to my taking profit out of the company to buy a used truck once we found out the 2014 F-250 I currently had with 267,244 miles on it was needing new torque converter solenoids and the DEF system is chocking up. We bought a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, Duramax 4X4, with 163,000 miles. LTZ Off Road package, power mirrors, chrome step boards, rear camera, exhaust brake, and air lift bags on the rear suspension. It belonged to a friend of mine who also owned a mobile training business.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

At the other end and in our favor is Julia Serano's analysis of the Cass Report Fiasco   https://juliaserano.medium.com/the-cass-review-wpath-files-and-the-perpetual-debate-over-gender-affirming-care-8f56d0c4d0c6   Serano is a Trans Woman and a molecular biologist herself, guess whose evaluation I honor.

That's great @MaeBe hopefully the company will offer your wife a moving package with the new job position. That's how I was transferred from the St. Louis Metro area to the Indianapolis Metro area. The company covered all the moving expenses, as well as a three week stay in an extended living hotel while we chose an area to build our current home.   Good Luck and make it a happy adventure.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
