Hi everyone,

 

My name is Annie. I am the parent of a 13-year-old trans boy. I was not sure if I should do an intro here or on the parent forum. So I opted to post here- I hope that is okay.

 

My son came out to our immediate family (my husband and two daughters) over a year ago when he was in the 6th grade and then as transgender in the last few months. I've been reading everything I can about being gender non-conforming and trans* since the day he first told us he was gender neutral. I am a bit of a Momma Bear so I want to be sure I know everything I need to in order to support him. I'm also a librarian so getting my hands on reading material is really easy. I'm here to keep learning.

 

I've been reading through posts over the last few days and am really excited to have found such a supportive community that shares resources they way ya'll do.

I'm always happy to meet another voracious reader. Some things have to be lived, but I always feel that the more I can prepare ahead of time mentally the better equipped I feel to handle whatever happens. 

I belong to a local PFLAG group and that's an incredibly valuable support resource for parents and kids, as well. If there's one near you I highly recommend checking it out if you haven't already. And of course, please ask or share with us anything  that's on your mind!

Hello Annie.  Welcome to the forum and thanks for being an understanding parent.  Too many children, and adults, do not experience that support.  Hopefully you will find the information you need here and a little support too!  One of my closest friends is a librarian, so I know librarian's rock!  Please join in the conversation and ask any questions you have.  We'll do our best.

I think it wonderful that you are embracing this aspect of your son.

My dysphoria started in the 5th grade when I was nine and I internalized it.
