Hello all. Please call me susan although i have not changed my real name but that will happen sometime soon and i am going to be 55 in oct. I do have a daughter who is will be 15 3 days after my bday but I don't get to see her. Which is very depressing.. I am just starting my mtf transition. Honestly, I am scared to think what others are going to think as I go through my transition fully and I know it will take a long time to complete. I am doing some basic stuff like shaving my legs and arm pits and going to get rid of my beard and mustache. I am going to use hair remover for now until i can get done for good. I have also started by bra's and dresses and all that good stuff and wearing them at home but i have been starting to tuck and go out in public with that. I have even been doing my finger nails but with clear finger nail polish. I do have a long time friend that I am going to tell about my transition. I am hoping she will understand. I have felt this way since I was about 12 or so at which time i was sexually abused. I even remember when my mother asked me about trying on her cloths and i did that as much as i could until she asked me that. I knew then that i was in the wrong body. I have yet to get ahold of my insurance company to find out if they will cover therapy but i am pretty sure they will and honestly i can't wait to start HRT. I am going to save as much money as I can so I can get SRS because i really want to go all the way. I welcome any comments and I am looking forward to see what everyone else says and support I can get here.

Thanks!!!!!! Susan

Hello and welcome!  I think in all the time I've been here, I've only met one other Idahoan on the site, and here you are right in my back yard.  This being the case, I have a local resource you might want to look into - the Tri-States Transgender Group:

Quote

Tri-States is a closed/private group, which is serious about safety and privacy. An initial interview with the facilitator to vet any new attendees is required for authorization to attend the meetings. Tri-States is a low-volume group -- participation is encouraged. Bi-monthly meetings are held from 7-9 PM on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month at The LGBTQ Community Center (TCC) --1088 North Orchard Street, Boise, Idaho 83706. After each meeting, some of the attendees go to a restaurant as a group to socialize. There is no dressing protocol…whatever makes each attendee feel comfortable.

Facilitator: Emilie Jackson-Edney
Co-facilitator: Dianne Piggott
Co-facilitator: Elizabeth Price
208-830-7253
[email protected]

I haven't been to the group in ages, but it's a great place to ask about local resources such as doctors who work with trans folks.  Emilie, who leads each meeting, knows everyone and everything that goes on in the state, I swear, and she's one of the nicest ladies you could hope to meet.

If you need a primary care provider you can trust, let me know and I'll send you a private message with the contact information for mine.  She didn't bat an eye when I came out to her, and aside from that she's just very good at what she does.

If you have any questions about transition or living the life, feel free to ask.  We'll all be happy to help!

That would be great! I will message you later. What is really going to be hard is my work accepting me. I don't think the law protects us.

No, it doesn't, sadly.  There's been a movement for years now to get the legislature to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the protection laws, and of course it comes down to a party line vote every year.  When you're ready to message me, you'll want to reply to the automated welcome message you got from me.  The forums won't let you start a brand new one until you have five posts / comments total.

I know. I watch the legislature every year. I would like to get the info for the therapist. I know that would be very good for me.

Welcome Susan, to Trans Pulse forums, from neighboring WA state ?. Coming to the realization transition is necessary is to plan a long journey, I hope yours is a smooth and beneficial process. I begin the process myself at 51 and never looked back...

I hope you find your time here on the forums useful and enjoyable.

Absolutely the steps you mentioned are just fine, we all move at our own pace, finding our own unique comfort zone Susan.

For the MTF, I would recommend facial hair removal earlier, sooner rather than later. For me this step would take years (5) of electrolysis and cost well over 20k (300 + hours).

Voice training earlier rather than later or not at all. Having wonderful outfit and being all dolled up, gets ruined pretty fast if you sound like a baritone in the wrong company ? Having a passable voice and using speech in the feminine context, has many benefits.

And if medically supervised, starting hormones will ease the body hair and create more calm for the MTF. Loose any excess weight, before starting HRT.

The wardrobe becomes experimentation, and lot's of fun finding what works, what does not ? Know your body type. Emulate what women wear in your area, that is age appropriate and fashionable (of course). Think less flamboyant, dress to blend in....

Enjoy

Welcome Susan.

I'm glad you've joined us.  I have a dear local friend who drives trucks for a living.  When it snows here she climbs into a tandem to spend days on major highways.  Otherwise she's moving goods around the state.  It may seem unusual but many women (including some who are trans) drive trucks.

Hugs,

Charlize

Transition Issues would be a good place to start, or the MtF forum.  Either one would work.

If it's okay for me to ask, but why does post and replies have to be approved?

No one that hasn’t gone through the self perceived shame and guilt about the feelings we’ve had cannot understand 1. Why we need a therapist we trust. 2.  Why we suddenly need to talk to them. 3. Why things set us off and throw us into a bout of extreme depression.  4. Why we feel threatened even when we aren’t in immediate danger.  That threat may be only in our mind but it’s our need for reassurance.

Be careful about software bundled with your antivirus! Most likely they are using it to spy on you. As far as I know the only 2 VPN providers that actually protect your data (and delete it as soon as possible if they keep anything at all) are Proton VPN and Mulvad VPN - the latter one actually had their servers stormed by law enforcement and they walked away with nothing (cause Mulvad had no customer data to offer). I would avoid antiviruses altogether tbh, they're not a magic cure for internet safety and the built in one from Microsoft does its job well enough. If you're not on WIndows you don't even need one - just be smart about what you download of course.   Your web browser asking you to turn it off is probably because the browser would prefer to know your real location, just ignore it or pick a better browser, like Firefox.

It was stupid of me, the cop was in front of me in a u-turn cut in a spot I know about. I was running a little late because of the slow truck, and the cop happened to be there today. It is like one of only three places for a speed trap on my commute. I usually don’t speed as I try to leave enough of a time buffer in the morning.

The worst possible scenario is 4 points on my license, which a defensive driving course will negate it. I had considered getting a lawyer, but it is probably not worth the expense.
    • Ivy
Yeah, I was puzzling on that too…

Good luck maam 😊 I’ve experienced that they’ll lower the points , if you show up in court and pay the ticket.

Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums Mealaini,   Like you I knew in my preteen years that I was meant to be a girl, but didn't have any way to bring it up in the early 1960s. It was the expanding news outlets on the telly that allowed me to understand that I may not be the only person who felt this way. Wow was my mind expanded once the internet became a reasonable research tool in the 1990s.   My grown daughter (42) is nonbinary and atheist with pagan leanings. So when I came out to her she was thrilled and wanted to dress me up and show me the world. Well I think she wanted to show me to the world. My son (45) is evangelical christian and very upset with his sister for many reasons. However he's a reluctant supporter of me as transgender. I'm out to my wife and we've been married for 48 years this June, so I'm in a very late in life transition.   The other thing that has me going down an internet rabbit hole is your location. It clearly states United Kingdom with a sub flag of Illinois. I've searched the web and can't seem to locate Illinois, UK. Am I missing something?    Best wishes,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Thank you for sharing, @Mealaini, and welcome.    I appreciate your description of IFS and your book recommendation. I have a few close friends who are very enthusiastic about IFS and my therapist is incorporating some of those elements into my therapy.    -Timi

Leg hair.  Shaving it was a surprisingly big decision.  (Not as big as the beard tho)  After I did it a few times, it's never really grown back.  Haven't shaved them in a couple of years and you'd never know it.  A daughter living with me doesn't shave hers, and she is much furrier than I ever was.     I don't exactly hate my living as a guy in the past.  TBH, I was never quite there anyway.  But I just dropped it.  I live full time fem, and it would bother me a lot to go back to being a guy.  But I don't have to appease family or an employer.

@Loreleiit always sucks getting a ticket for passing a slower vehicle. I'm guessing the police officer was some distance behind you until you performed your passing maneuver. My most costly ticket was from a similar situation, however we were heading out of town and the last straight stretch of road to pass the two slower vehicles ahead of me was still in a 35mph zone. I didn't see the officer behind me and as soon as I pulled out to pass he turned on his lights and siren. Since I was in the process of passing, I figured the next safe place to pull over was at the upcoming roadside park. He didn't accept that and wrote me up for passing two gaps, speed in excess of 15mph over, and failure to stop. He did not care to hear about any fellowship in public safety, and no professional curiosities would be honored.  I did go to court plead my case and the judge, and he did see my point of continuing to pass with the intentions of pulling over safely at the roadside park. He was very familiar with the location. This allowed him to drop the failure to stop charges, but I did have to pay the full 15mph over speeding ticket. So my lesson learned was to never pass when entering or leaving a small town or village.   Hugs, and good luck in court.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
