This story appeared tonight on NPR's Marketplace show.  "While challenges remain for transgender jobseekers, more businesses are reaching out to the trans community"

Its about a recent “Transgender Job Fair” hosted by Cleveland’s Metro Health hospital.  The organizers had buttons that participants could use to indicate their gender pronouns.  This is a positive step!

Very positive story.  Thanks for posting it, Jani.

We've had many job fairs in the L.A. area for years, and the participation of local businesses has been increasing.  I've been involved in several, and helped train the staff of a local WorkSource Career Center in Hollywood, where many trans folk live and hang out.

The results of our job fairs are mixed, at best.  The problem has been that far too few of our community members are ready to seek out even the most simple entry-level jobs.  It isn't lack of desire, its lack of skills, especially soft skills like reading, writing, math, the ability to fill out a job application, having the right clothes, or understanding the importance of showing up on time and following directions.  Having proper legal I.D. is also an issue for many job seekers.  So the LGBT Center and WSC have concentrated their efforts on improving the soft skills of trans folk, so that they can find success.

Unfortunately I believe the lack of skills is an issue with many job seekers.  In many areas our schools are failing the students, despite welling meaning teachers.   Our community is getting more visibility which is positive.

In Central Florida, it's getting harder to find applicants who can pass a drug test.

I've read this is a huge issue.  The push to make weed legal in various states is not going to make this any better.
