First Contact Nervousness

Jennifer Anne

Recommended Posts

I have never told anyone that I am transgender. Next month I am moving to a new home, in a new small city, in a new state. There is only one gender therapist there. I know that I need to contact her and set up an appointment but I am nervous and scared. I know that I can do this, I just need a little support to help me follow through. If anyone has any words of wisdom to help me on this journey please enlighten me.

Hello Jennifer and welcome.  The only thing I can say it to just reach out.  That's what I did.  I sent a message through my therapist's website.  She called me a day later.  I was shocked that I had started the ball rolling and so nervous.  But it was the best choice I had ever made concerning my GD.  After my first appointment (in guy mode) I was so relieved, it wa like walking on air as I left the office.

A therapist meeting will be confidential so you shouldn't have any fears there.  Be open and honest to get the best results.  BTW: Where are you moving to?

It's a good step toward things being less scary and more relaxed. Being scared is understandable as it is a step into the unknown. Jani gives good advice. My advice is go prepared and be yourself.

Hi Jennifer Anne.  I completely understand the feelings you have.  I was so nervous before even setting up my first appointment..it was very scary for me.  I remember starting to set up the appointment date thru the online portal.  I was looking but didn't think I would actually schedule it. There was only one day available that next week and every other day available was 2 weeks out so I clicked on the first date and it was done.  I actually couldn't believe I had set it up but it was the best decision I've made in a long time. It was hard waiting even a week but after that first appointment I never felt that anxiety again.  I think you'll thank yourself once you go.  It really is worth it imho.
