Update Name change

Hello All

I am so happy after getting my name change and gender marker changed.  Within a week of getting my SS card and license.  I had my name changed with all my creditors, bills and everything.  I just finished my bank account and IRA with my new name.  I got my badge updated at work with my picture and name.

Lots of Love

Amy

Amy,

Congratulations! I am honestly looking forward to all those things! I haven't done my social transition yet, but planning for November as of right now, that is my goal since things are changing. I am going to talk to my Gender Therapist tomorrow about the name change process in my state to find out what all I need to do!

Again, congratulations!

Congratulations Amy! I have the paperwork ready to change my name and am waiting until I have the chance to tell my kids to submit it and put the legal ad in the paper. Here in NE I have to have had the surgery before I can change gender markers

Hello There:

The Name Change process is an exciting time and it's the time when your true identity really becomes real.  In due time.  It take baby steps and working up to it.  I know a good rule of thumb for the name change process is Court, Social security and DMV.  usually in that order.  But then it will all depends on the state you live in for the gender marker change and what is needed.  Once you get done with those 3 areas to change your name, the real fun becomes on updating your name everywhere and it just a lot of time.

Lots of Love

Thank you all.  I was hoping on not touching my birth certificate, cause I do not want to destroy my past and I am happy with my past but even happier that I am finally who I was meant to be.  But I found out that in the state of AZ that the TSA agents will no longer accept our licenses to fly and we will need to either use a passport or get a federal ID to be able to fly.  So it looks like that I am going to have to contact CA and look into the process of changing my name on the birth certificate so I can update my passport and get the federal ID.

Lots of Love

Amy

I _think_ you can update your passport without needing to update your birth certificate, so it's worth looking into that to double check

Here in Tennessee we're not allowed to change the gender marker on our BirthCertificates, only our names. I didn't need it chagned on my BC in order to get a passport with my correct name and gender marker. All you needed before was a letter from your Dr stating that you've made the medical steps needed to change genders. With our current administration, I'm not sure if that will be enough now.

I never changed my birth certificate although i may do so at some point.  Even so i did get a new passport with name and gender changed.  It took a bit of time to get all the paperwork together and then after sending away my paperwork the wait seemed endless.  Please do make sure you have dotted all your i's and crossed t's but otherwise a name change on your birth certificate has not been necessary.

Hugs,

Charlize

I will check that out and research.  I have all my name change paperwork in a folder.  It has the court, SS, DMV and then with creditors and bills.  When I went to my bank.  I needed the court order with the raised seal.  They helped me with the paperwork for name change on my IRA as well.

Making sure I have everything covered and if a place ask, I can pull out what ever paperwork they need.

That’s really great Amy! It’s because of you that I did mine too! I’m only at the first steps still, but it is very exciting. I’m currently waiting for a court date and to see if anyone has contested my new name. I really hope it happens sooner than later. :)

congrats with everything Amy!!

Hello Kirsten

That is awesome you are going for your name change.  I had no idea that I inspired people like yourself to go for the name change.  But it is the most enjoyable time ever.  I know it gets hard on when you are finally out socially but then you are wondering what name do I put down.  Or looking at the paperwork and you see that it is a state or federal paper so you have to put your birth name but everywhere else you get to put your preferred name.  It gets mixed up at times and wondering what name do I put down.  But after you get your name change, you will be able to only use 1 name and 1 name only

Lots of Love

Amy

Good luck maam 😊 I’ve experienced that they’ll lower the points , if you show up in court and pay the ticket.

Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums Mealaini,   Like you I knew in my preteen years that I was meant to be a girl, but didn't have any way to bring it up in the early 1960s. It was the expanding news outlets on the telly that allowed me to understand that I may not be the only person who felt this way. Wow was my mind expanded once the internet became a reasonable research tool in the 1990s.   My grown daughter (42) is nonbinary and atheist with pagan leanings. So when I came out to her she was thrilled and wanted to dress me up and show me the world. Well I think she wanted to show me to the world. My son (45) is evangelical christian and very upset with his sister for many reasons. However he's a reluctant supporter of me as transgender. I'm out to my wife and we've been married for 48 years this June, so I'm in a very late in life transition.   The other thing that has me going down an internet rabbit hole is your location. It clearly states United Kingdom with a sub flag of Illinois. I've searched the web and can't seem to locate Illinois, UK. Am I missing something?    Best wishes,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Thank you for sharing, @Mealaini, and welcome.    I appreciate your description of IFS and your book recommendation. I have a few close friends who are very enthusiastic about IFS and my therapist is incorporating some of those elements into my therapy.    -Timi

Leg hair.  Shaving it was a surprisingly big decision.  (Not as big as the beard tho)  After I did it a few times, it's never really grown back.  Haven't shaved them in a couple of years and you'd never know it.  A daughter living with me doesn't shave hers, and she is much furrier than I ever was.     I don't exactly hate my living as a guy in the past.  TBH, I was never quite there anyway.  But I just dropped it.  I live full time fem, and it would bother me a lot to go back to being a guy.  But I don't have to appease family or an employer.

@Loreleiit always sucks getting a ticket for passing a slower vehicle. I'm guessing the police officer was some distance behind you until you performed your passing maneuver. My most costly ticket was from a similar situation, however we were heading out of town and the last straight stretch of road to pass the two slower vehicles ahead of me was still in a 35mph zone. I didn't see the officer behind me and as soon as I pulled out to pass he turned on his lights and siren. Since I was in the process of passing, I figured the next safe place to pull over was at the upcoming roadside park. He didn't accept that and wrote me up for passing two gaps, speed in excess of 15mph over, and failure to stop. He did not care to hear about any fellowship in public safety, and no professional curiosities would be honored.  I did go to court plead my case and the judge, and he did see my point of continuing to pass with the intentions of pulling over safely at the roadside park. He was very familiar with the location. This allowed him to drop the failure to stop charges, but I did have to pay the full 15mph over speeding ticket. So my lesson learned was to never pass when entering or leaving a small town or village.   Hugs, and good luck in court.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Marriage complicates things.  We think we know someone… but then we don't. My ex supports me, but we're certainly not married.  She actually took me out for dinner a couple days ago. But if I said I didn't miss her it would be a lie.  That part is still hard. The hard truth is I had to get away from her, to have the freedom to find myself. Maybe it won't be that way for y'all.
