I feel young! I was carded! Funny how the younger ones don't want to be and for the first time in 15 years I got carded! I'm happy.

Hi,

well I’ve spent some time reading, went to the grocery store and filed my taxes.  I also watched at least part of two movies with my wife.  The second wasn’t that good and we both stopped watching.

turned out to be a nice afternoon.  Partly sunny/cloudy not sure which was greater.  But it reached the low 70s so no complaints from this girl.  It seems to be getting cloudy now.

ah but to be younger and skinny again.  Oh the dreams of years gone by.  There are a lot of things I’d like to accomplish before I can’t anymore. We’ll just have to see what life brings to me and how many more years I have.

@ashley0616 yes it always seems like the 21 to 30 year olds are the ones most annoyed by being carded when buying cigarettes and alcohol and they are also the ones most apt to not have their ID with them.  Oh I left it in the car or but I come here all the time, don’t you remember me?  That other person knows me ask them to which my answer is I’m sorry they asked to see your I’d and I can’t override that. (Even though I may be the manager on duty.). Then there are the photo copies, no! The ones I do override are the Federal or State issued gun permits.  They are accepted but new people think they aren’t because they can’t be machine read. And of course law enforcement id’s. They are the first to always present their id regardless of how old they are in uniform or not.

My boyfriend's mom and sister got to know me more this afternoon. We got together for lunch and went good. His mom and sister are 100% open minded asking how I knew that I was transgender in the right way.Seen I came from a struggling life finding my true self and now happy life finally transitioning.I am glad they accepted me in and see my boyfriend is finally happy since we started dating

I got lucky when I was 19 I didn't get carded because in England they can drink at 18 and they have a huge birthday party when they turn that old too. By the time I got to the states I was 22 so didn't have to worry about that. What movies did y'all watch if you don't mind me asking?

I'm not even looking anymore. It was hard as a male that was physically fit. I then came out which made it worse and now it might be completely impossible with borderline personality disorder or I'm pretty sure I have it. My moods change in a couple of hours at times. It already takes someone special to date trans but add constant mood changes? I think I have better luck winning the lottery than finding someone. I'm not even picky because I'm bi.

IIRC, you're only a few years older than me.  But even though I am now into my mid 30s, they card me every time.  And often they will swear that my license is a fake ID and check it in super deep detail, just because I look really young.  People always think I'm 15 or 16. 😔 I even had one cashier tell me that my state issued driver's license was the "best fake she'd ever seen." 🤬 Of course, any place that knows me and my partners doesn't bother to card us at all.  Or if I'm with my sister while she is in uniform.

I actually do get carded occasionally, and I'm in my 70's.   Go figure.  I suppose it's some kind of policy the clerk must follow to keep their job.

If I buy wine at the grocery store, they usually ask my birth date.  I know I look over 21.  They must have to put it in the register or something.  Some don't ask, I think they just make something up.

When I was a teen, we all were waiting to turn 18.

When I moved to the south, it didn't matter.  This was a dry county back then.  We had "Liquor Houses" that didn't really care about your age.  For a while I lived next door to "Possum's Palace" which was run by some bikers.

And of course there was some locally produced stuff, which wasn't that bad, really.  When I worked for the city, I occasionally got a jar as a "tip."

Come to think of it, the county might still be dry.  But the municipalities can, and have, voted it in.  Those elections are kinda fun to watch.  Now the church folks don't have to sneak out of town for their booze.

I haven't been carded in several decades.  But I do occasionally get asked if I am a senior, in case I qualify for the store's seniors' discount.

At Bulk Barn, some of the staff recognize us and apply the discount automatically.  We pretend to get all huffy because they just assumed we were old without asking.  The nicer staff ask us anyway, even though they know we qualify, just to play along.

Haha sounds like your Southern experience is similar to mine.  We still have dry counties, although mine isn't one of them.  When I was a kid, nearly every county was dry, but a couple of cities were wet (including where I grew up), and so people came there from miles around to stock up.  Things really started changing around 2008 to 2012, and some of the good o' boys were both happy and sad about it.  Happy to get the booze more easily, sad at losing the market for the homemade stuff.

I guess the Possum is a famous critter just about everywhere.  We've got a "Possum Holler" liquor store.  And "Beaver Liquor" as well...somebody chose that name for a reason 🤣  Some folks still make moonshine, including my GF.  She's got several types, including one that is carbonated.  And they all smell awful.

My husband rescued me from one of her recipes last night, actually.  She handed me this jar and it smelled nice and tasted nice.  I took a couple of sips, and my husband took it out of my hand, poured me off a small portion of it, and took the rest away.  It was a mix of champagne, apple brandy, sugar, and spices.  Including enough nutmeg to make you hallucinate. 😱  I guess she's stopped being irritated with my friends, and now she's focused on debauching them instead.  Sometimes IDK what to do with that girl....

I think I have a job!  😁  Sort of, anyways.  My husband told me tonight that he needs my help.  My artistic help, doing graphic stuff for presentations.  OMG I'm actually excited about this!  I don't even care that it doesn't pay a thing (its county work, and my husband doesn't get paid either.)  Unfortunately it'll be kind of technical, and I know I won't understand some of it... but this will be the first real stuff I've worked on since I got hurt in 2022.   I hope I can do it...

Good morning, everyone! I've already been up for an hour, just starting my second cup of coffee.

We watched the movie Oppenheimer last night and I'm still processing it in my brain. There was so much about his post-WWII life that I didn't know.

Time to open the local paper and catch up on the news. Sunday's are quiet days here for us.

Enjoy the day...and your coffee!!!

Good morning!

Yesterday was 2nd TDOV 'celebration' near me. Weather was awful (flooding rains) and we had to spend so much time (as always?) about how many bills are proposed or passed against us, suicides among us, fighting the healthcare bureaucracy, unaccepting friends and family.

Last year was sunny and there were makeovers (see profile pic). Oh well, still nice to be amongst people who celebrated us.

My experience at vascular surgery last Thursday:

Having gone through surgeries already I know the procedures, the nurse this time came in to mark my veins with a marker and ultrasound as usual but casually bumped up against my crotch area with her hand and then again as if not sure (I wear incontinence briefs).

The other nurse came in to clean the leg and prep it, but the first nurse whispered something into her ear.
She also accidentally bumped my crotch area, and then again as if not sure (didn't happen in previous surgeries).

It was actually very unprofessional of both of them, however I was barely containing my laughter at their confusion. I don't have a penis but rather something rather deformed in it's place (no bulge, more like enlarged clitoris).

After surgery one of the nurses stayed to help me sit up and brought my clothes over. She gazed down my blouse at my obvious chest and kind of giggled a bit but said nothing. I offered no explanation at all and carried on (my medical records they have say male).

I'm sure I was talked about at the nurse's station that day. This is Texas, and genders outside of the boxes are frowned upon, but they most likely have no idea that I was born this way (intersex). 😂

@Birdie this might be a bit cheeky, but did you consider being assertive enough to say to the nurses, "You've had a feel, do you want to take a look?" just to shut them up? Their resultant conniptions would have been worth seeing!

Lol, that would have been funny!

Although leaving them wondering was quite entertaining as well.

I'm sure they think I'm post-SRS, and I doubt if they even considered intersex.

Good morning

ok too many people to respond to individually.  But hopefully I don’t forget anything.

Let’s see getting carded, our registers automatically will ask for ID, the don’t know your age.  So a newbie trying to keep there job is going to ask everyone at first then will start backing off a bit.  Company policy is we card everyone r0 and under.  The problem is people like Awkward, they look 15 but are in there 30s.  Then there are people like me and I say this humbly I’m 75 and don’t look a day over 50 to my colleagues.  Even the bosses have a hard time remembering how old I really am because not only do I look younger than I am I out work most everyone.  And I get more at-a-girls from customers for being friendly and helpful.

our company pays secret shoppers to come in and see if they get carded for buying nicotine or alcohol.  And the state also has young people do the same.  If the company catches you twice you get fired no matter your position.  If the state catches you it’s handcuffs and off to jail.  We take periodic refreshers on selling age restricted products  and dealing with irate customers.

The fun movie was called Dumplin.  It was about four friends who were not the typical type participating in a high school pageant in Texas.  Two were plump, one was a radical and the fourth was just a good friend.  No more or I’ll give it away.  Netflix.  The second was really bad, don’t remember the name.  It was about the end of the world and two unlikely families working together to survive.  All the Teslas crash into each other ships run up on beaches planes crash.  Weird stuff.  Also Netflix, starred Julia Roberts

good luck with the graphics. Definitely not my forte.  I’ve tried my hand at html and basic websites none of which ever made it to the internet.  Partly because with my other responsibilities I never had enough time to devote to figuring it all out.

time to get ready for church

Sorry about the unprofessionalism! I would be a little upset about that.

I agree with you, and I consider myself lucky to have a realistic understanding that I’m never going to have my dream body. I take comfort in the fact that women come in all shapes and sizes. I compare myself to the women in my family at the age I am now, and see that resemblance. It may be easier to transition into an Auntie or Grandmotherly figure once you reach a certain age.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Once I start mowing the lawn I’ll be listening to Outlaw Country on SIRUS XM on my noise canceling headphones. I often wonder if drowning out the motor noise and replacing it with your favorite tunes is really protecting your ears? Rock on with new song writers that aren’t a part of the Big Corporate Music Grinder.    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Is it a thing to not want to be transgender? Absolutely. I’ve heard trans folk say many times that they wished they were born cis. I find it heartbreaking and I’m hugely relieved I don’t feel that way, but I know some people do.   You don’t need body dysphoria to be trans. You don’t need any dysphoria. You just need to feel a mismatch between your gender identity and your sex assigned at birth. Of course, whether or not you should transition is a different question, but some people do so without body dysphoria. In my case, my dysphoria is mainly social, though I do feel some body dysphoria.   British writer Paris Rees said that maybe if society weren’t so transphobic she wouldn’t have felt the need to transition. I wonder about that sometimes too, but I find it impossible to know.   Can I make one suggestion w/r/t therapists? I agree with Vicky’s suggestion, but I hope you will avoid anyone claiming to practise “exploratory therapy”, and if you start feeling that a therapist is trying to “cure” you of your gender that you will find someone else. The affirmative model of care, contrary to what some anti-trans campaigners would have you believe, simply means that the clinician takes your own view of your gender seriously. This is crucial, imo, if you are to discover your own identity. No-one can know if you are trans but you, but it sure helps to have someone knowledgeable to discuss it with.

Good morning everyone,    Parker has been walked, fed and watered. He’s now checking to make sure the backyard doesn’t have any squirrels in it. The largest squirrel is on an overhanging branch chirping at him. The other sounds of the neighborhood include a far off in the distance interstate highway, that is drowned out by bird songs claiming the feeders are full. We still don’t have any cicadas in our area yet. The coffee pot is finishing up so I’ll be scrolling through the threads with thumb swipes, and not replying until I drink the first cup. Today is the pick of the week according to the local weather person. So I’ll be mowing the lawn once the morning dew has lifted.    I hope you have a wonderful day.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
