How do you choose a new name?!

Theres to many male names out there! Ive had a couple ive been drawn to but after a tiny bit i change my mind and the cycle repeats. I think it helps im not really out so its not affecting anyone else, but i dont have anyone to ask if they have ideas. How did you choose your name? Is changing your mind ok? Does it have to start with the same letter as my cuttent name? There is so many questions.

Names can be tough, because there are so many possibilities.  I chose my middle name in honor or my paternal grandmother.  For my first name I wanted more than one syllable because my last name has only one,,  plus the initial is the same as my dead name.  Lastly, it just fit me well, I think, and seemed age-appropriate.  Ashley wouldn't have been a good fit for a 60 y.o..  LOL!

HelloThere! Carolyn is spot on with her advice.  It can be really frustrating, but start by eliminating names you know you do not like and then make a list of ones you do and say them out loud. I used a random name I liked to start questioning online with before settling on the one I am using now because of the reason quoted above - it just felt right, my sisters effectively chose it for me and it stems from a nickname I've been called for years so will not be hard for people to remember.  This works for me at the moment because I already have a good emotion attached to it and can see myself using it if/when I come out publicly!  That said, you can literally change it anytime you like. Its your name.

Hi!  Names can be hard. I had help though.  I wanted to be Joady but it made too many people think of Jody Foster.  Strong as she is she is still a woman lol. I'm a man.  I got suggested Jordy and was like. I like that.  Then I thought, a good strong name is Jordan so I went with that.  My middle name is Ethan for my fiance's high school best friend and my last name is Michaels which is my fiance's name minus the s.  I can't marry my fiance because my ex husband won't give me a divorce (long story) so having his name as my last name is awesome.  You will find a name that means something to you. It can be over night like for me or take time and it certainly is ok to change your mind.

I went through a list of one thousand names.  Narrowed that at first by eliminating names of friends and relatives, followed by others I knew.  I finally got to a half dozen names.  Then, I decided on one.  I haven’t changed my mind, perhaps because it turned out to have something similar to my given name.

I agree with Carolyn above, in that I choose my name that was popular with girls my age (50's 60's). Growing up, I also had friends named Cynthia, and some dear to my heart, one friend I had passed away shortly before I changed my name, in a way she inspired me and gifted me with that name.

I have a friend in Southern Europe who's Jordi, a nickname for George (Jorge).

Personally I followed my Mother's lead and used the fem version of my birth name.

I kept it simple, Ned and the first letter N is the same as the girl name my mom gave me.

I tried a few for size before I settled on my name.

 

at first I kept my surname or at least close to my surname. However after I went stealth I decided to take a name and stick to it.

 

My first name was actaully picked from many that I pondered. I did ponder quite a few from the famous to the infamous Until I decidedd on one that stood out from the crowd for me. My Middle name was taken from my Mothers Middle name and as for my last. I took my partners. We are not married but it seemed like the right thing to do.

 

It looks really nice on my driving licence and I still have to phychologically pinch myself by taking it from my purse and having a look once in a while. I dont think i could have picked any better.

 

I guess thats the beauty of being able to decide for yourself and not have one you had no control over. At first I did kind of miss my real surname but I did make it easy for myself to try and keep the intials the same. My Signature is just a Spider dancing on paper after dipping in the ink well but the first letters are almost the same so I didnt have to change my signature really.
