I am balding. I tried to let my hair grow out but I still have a big bald spot in the back of my head. Plus my hair is turning grey and I look like an old Ebenezer Scrooge. I don't want to wear a wig for the rest of my life. I would like to go to beach ..go to the pool wearing my two piece not my three piece. anyone have any suggestions or ideas. thank you alex

Time to see a doctor and get them on board with your gender issues and forward motion ideas.  Testosterone blockers will result in some hair re-growth but it will take a year or  two.  There are also hair transplants to be had and some Trans women have good results.  You do not need a full wig for your problem, there are wiglets called top pieces, and I used one with good results before my E kicked in big time.  There are also hair extensions and what are called "weaves" that anchor wefts of hair and string the weft or two or three over the spot.  In other words there are a wide variety of ways to do it without a full wig.  As for color, my gray has taken a red color mix that my hair stylist mixes up every 5 weeks and slathers on my head.  Even with a now full head of hair, I  still use my wigs and hair pieces to have fun with.

I’m having a similar issue but it’s only the beginning stages so maybe it’s not for everyone, but I have read a lot about it and sometimes it’s exacerbated by deficiencies in our diet. I found out that zinc and biotin are two things that can help but there’s a lot more to it. I don’t have the link but there’s a really good article about it that you can find on google search.

Hmmmm!  I need to change that avatar, it is a wig and it is 15 years ago!!!  LOL.  My own hair is the only straight thing about me but it is the red color. .

To save this, copy the page and paste in in a word processing program.

This is a major concern of mine too, that particular horse left the stable long ago - realistically I know there are plenty of cis women who have no hair too for one reason or another and either work the shaved head look or rely on wigs full time, but it is a sticking point for me balancing blending and my idea of self authenticity (though I don't have an issue with glasses for eyesight correction, go figure) so it will be something I discuss when I finally start to talk to someone from the UK gender clinic later this year.

Hair is rough. I was nearly 100% bald on top pre transition. I have regrown a really good amount of hair now with rogaine, finestaride, biotin, and very healthy living. But it’s not even close to being full enough that I can wear my hair down and look half normal. The hair that has regrown is about 1/2 baby fine light hairs and 1/2 normal hair. But the follicles are still stressed and they grow much slower than the rest of my hair. I am still hoping for more regrowth and I think I’ll get more, but it’ll probably still be pretty thin vs the rest of my hair. And eventually after surgeries, I want to save for a transplant. But that’s very limited too. But every little bit helps. At times now with a tinted dry shampoo, a strategically placed pony tail, and a bit of hair spray I can make myself look almost not bald. It’s at least enough for me at the moment.

If by chance you can't find any success in feeling comfortable with your own hair i have found that it is quite possible to live comfortably with a wig.  For me it has become a lot like wearing a hat except that i look 15 years younger and almost cute at times.  Not the end of the world.

I am completely bald on top.  No way I can go without a wig.  But I haven’t figured out how to manage the pool or the beach except don’t get wet.  Anybody got ant hints for that?

I have found with my hair that it grows very super slowly cause my hair is naturally curly.  So as my hair grows, it is growing in curls, so it is taking longer to even grow.  I started out completely shaved head and then let it grow.  Then I got mad at my hair cause it was growing slow and curly and I shaved it off, so I had to restart all over again.  I take Biotin and finestaride and I use a sulfrate free shampoo and conditioner that is enriched with biotin and I also eat very healthy now and make sure that I dont have stress in my life cause stress can have some effect on hair growth and also I use a hair mask to make sure my hair can hold in the moister and get my hair back being soft.

I have heard different hair growth from various different people and realize it just comes down to the individual.  I have heard that you have a crome dom spot on your head then hair wont grow there, but if there is some hair then hair will grow back there.  I have heard of a body builder being 100% bald and in 2 years they have a full set of hair growth.  So I figured it is based on the individual and how well you care for your hair and take care of it.

I would be careful with minoxidil because I was using it for my widows peak and it ended up getting on the back of my neck and I started getting unwanted growth. If I ever use it again it’s probably going to be the foam and women’s version. I’m not trying to increase my future hair removal bill.

Not really for the hair loss, but my daughters both used swim caps regularly for swimming and beach.  They still make cute ones that are very female looking.  Mine went to the beach with one of them recently and has not come back.

The women’s is the exact same stuff as the men’s. Just different packaging. And 2x the cost. It does have a slightly better smell, but is a slightly better smell really worth double the cost? Be sure to get the 5% and not the 3%. Kirkland has it on amazon and it’s 60 dollars for a years supply of the liquid. It’s 140 for the foam.

That is so cute Vicky.  I remember the caps my mom wore. At times as a child one was the equivalent of a wig today.  I'd put on my mom's cap and feel it was just right for me.  One issue today might be in taking the cap off and removing too much.  It takes practice to even get a motorcycle helmet off "gracefully".

Vicky ad Charlize, thanks for the suggestions.  I guess I'll look for some type of swim cap.

Clutching of pearls because people that don’t “align with society” party to excess is part of the problem, not a symptom of one. Cis-het folks are out there airing their sexuality, reveling in their debauchery, and displaying general anti-social behaviors all the time but aren’t reacted to in the same manner.   The most important T in this conversation is Time. As long as there is not a fascist, violent, crackdown on LGBTQ+ people, our exposure to society (at least in Western society) will continue to move it towards our acceptance.

I have three within a two block walk! You'd think I was in Seattle already! The one I have always gone to is the quintessential "local coffee shop" though; local artist's works on the wall, drinks named after customers and local geography, and it's run down just enough to feel homey. Also, I can bring my 20oz coffee mug in and get it filled for the price of a small! :D

Eczema was my excuse. *high fives!*   It's lovely when you get a nice interaction like that. Yesterday I got a "you're so sweet" from a man who I held the door for, I don't think he saw all of me until after he'd walked past so he only picked up on my outfit and body appearance. I was so paranoid that I used too male of a voice in return, but c'est la vie. I felt really nice after it though.   I tend to try to put in a lot of effort. If I wear make up, it has to be perfect, etc. I put this pressure on myself because I, too, don't have a chance in h-e-double hockey sticks at "passing".  So, I try not to make myself an "easy target".

It's just the opposite here.  There are a ton of local boutique coffee roasters in this area.  There is no excuse for bad coffee here, which is why I am always surprised when I get mediocre truck-stop coffee in restaurants.

It’s a huge difference, the laser has done wonders. I still have some stragglers, but I hope a few more sessions to try to zap those. Mostly what’s left are the white/blonde hairs, they still need a shave but they don’t really cause me much dysphoria.   I do use makeup, I barely go out without liner and mascara these days. Don’t tend to do a full face, but when I go for a little coverage I use tinted moisturizer and a little concealer under setting powder. Here’s me today, with about as much makeup as I go out with (forgive me the wings, I struggled today…), I went and got my hair done, so I had to look good for the ladies.

This is me as well. I wear dresses and skirts exclusively.  That is pretty obvious.  When I get misgendered, it's not by mistake.

These places have the best food.   Unfortunately, the one I used to go to thinks I'm going to hell these days.

I'm glad to hear it! Fruits and veggies time! I just had a greek yogurt with flax meal and blueberries and now I'm feeling better about that! I am so glad you're OK!   Just finished my second cup of coffee after an appointment with my normal stylist, I haven't see her since November! First time see her since going femme full time. I'd texted her before the appointment, just in case, but she has been super sweet the whole time. Not much hair ended up on the floor, but I'm going to need the back trimmed before long but for now I just got some shaping done.   Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that. My guess is your neighbor won't be paying the medical bill...

Doubt it, most people against the T are also against the LGB, I am bi and it all seems to intersect one way or another. Trans people are "new" in the eyes of the public so its just a weird thing for them all.

I have the same feeling as you. I often wish I had started HRT earlier or was on puberty blockers, maybe I could have been taller than 5'7. But there's nothing you can do about it now, that's life and as much as it sucks and seems pointless at times you have to work with what you are given. "Passing isn't the end all be all" I hear a lot but to me it is everything, as much as that may sound like an insane position It is just how I feel.   Anyway, on the topic of your mother, mine had the same sentiment and mostly still does along with my father. Im not sure how old you are but you seem to be around my age or younger, I am 17. But most families don't know how to deal with it and they will probably see you as your original gender no matter what you do. Their comments mean nothing really because in the end when adulthood rolls around you can just leave or at least have some independence from them.   I would also not compare yourself to other males, it will eat you alive. I just remind myself that I will get there, maybe I won't be the pillar of masculinity but ill pass one day. Envy is the thief of happiness or something like that.

I can never find coffee that matches good restaurants coffee.  The closest iv come so far was when I accidentally made a pot last week with less water than I had meant to use.  But that still wasn’t right.  Now I’ve heard put a little salt in with the ground coffee or add baking soda but I have no clue how much to use.   home baked pie in the local cafe is the best, but the best Key Lime pie was from a place called The Fish House in Key Largo. One thing they do differently is the topping is meringue not whipped cream. But it’s also made from real key limes.  An advantage of being in the keys.   willow
