VA Breast Forms

Recommended Posts

I just found out the VA will provide breast forms.  Has anyone gotten a set from the VA?  Are they nice and realistic looking?

thanks,

Jane Shannon

I have heard that too. From my meeting with our lgbt coordinator. I heard also gaffs, and wigs. luckily don't have to worry about the latter. In almost a year my hair is about an inch below my shoulders. ? I even heard they may provided voice help too. but not sure.

I scheduled the consult for my VA provided breast forms. The authorization includes one set of forms and two bras per year.  The VA uses a "local" vendor.  In my case the only vendor in the western Washington and they are in Tacoma, so not really very local for me as I am north of Seattle.  It sounds like the forms will be nice, they will cost ~250+ each.  My consult is next week.

The VA provided me Forms, a Wig and a some Gaffs. I was not a fan of the gaffs. But the Wig and Form were both from a Local  Cancer Specialty Shop and were high quality.

I'm not interested in forms or gafts.   But the wig would be nice.   How do you get them?

@Ivy I talked to my priimary care and she put in a referral for me. They then send me to the place outside the VA. I know my VA has a LGBT advocate, I am party sure all VA have one. I would contact them and see if they can help guide you. But I stared with my PCM.

You are correct. Every VA medical center has a LGBT coordinator. Any problems with the VA staff go to them.  And yes, VA does supply breast forms w/ bras, Wigs, gaffs, and voice help. In addition they are said to provide electrolysis for GCS surgery prep. Hopefully soon. the operations themself. Last I heard from my GYN. Who is on the board working for us on this. They are just starting the public opinion phase. SO be patent our time is coming.
