Introductions can be so hard

Hi, this is my first post on this website, so I hope that I do not sounds silly. I am male to female and I've been on HRT for 6 1/2 months. So far everything is going well and I have no concerns thankfully.

I am 41, divorced, two children, and college educated (accounting). The children live with their mother who is out of state so... It is what it is. In just under 2 weeks I have an orchiectomy consult so my transition timeline is solid. I am making progress towards my goal.

I struggle with my voice so I guess I will one of the people who pass until I open my mouth unless I get voice surgery. And on that note, I do not know what else to say.

Hi, welcome to Trans Pulse :) .

Thank you for your introduction. I am glad things are progressing well with you, although a little sad about the family breakup. You will find this a friendly place where people help each other with their varied experiences. Pleae feel free to join in, read and post, asking questions if there are things you are unsure of.

On the subject of your voice, have you investigated voice training? It is worth a look as many just use this and never have the surgery.

Welcome Ginger.

I know my voice is on the edge at best but in public where visual clues are strong i haven't ever had an issues.  Cis women's voices are all different just as their looks differ.

Hugs,

Charlize

Hi Ginger.  Welcome, you're among friends here!  Don't fret over your voice.  Mine isn't perfect.  I can get it into a fem range easily but do tend to drift off occasionally.  No one says a thing.  Women's voices come in all ranges.

Don't be fooled by Charlize.  Her voice is lovely!  And once you see the person the voice emanates from there is no question at all.  She doesn't have issues and neither do I.

Please join in the talk!!

Cheers, Jani

Welcome to the form Ginger.  Hope you find it comfortable here.  Have you looked at Voice training instead of VFS?  My voice for myself sounds to androgynous, but I am doing voice training

The surgery is for you like any other surgery, and not for others.  Timbre and pitch are not as important as some people think to being taken as female or male.  Listen, really listen to cis females and you will find that vocabulary and musicality are the most important clues as to your gender.  Go to a library and check out some play scripts with good women's parts in them and get some coaching on reading that dialogue and you may find the surgery is not needed.  I am accepted in public 100% for my voice which is in the lower tenor range, but only about 10% on my telephone by strangers do sales calls, and who needs them?

As for as voice is concerned, I work in retail (cashier) and recently  a child said " you look like a girl but sound like a boy" I replied " some girls sound like boys and some boys sound like girls". The mother agreed with me and added "what does it matter?". I thought she had the right attitude. The voice imho is not as important as showing confidence in yourself. Charlize andJani are right, female voices do come in different ranges.
