Heels, Any tips?

Krisvm

I am finding more and more I love heels, my feet and legs look great in them and I find them really comfy. Even high heels.

However, I wanted to know if anyone had any tips on buying ones that are good quality. Currently I had just been shopping cheap shops but it would be great to at some point invest in some higher quality ones.

Also to help me narrow down as I drool over all of them in online shoe stores ?

As you are in the UK I'm not sure US brands are available there so your best bet is to look around in several shops to get an idea of what is available at what price.  As you will see most shoes are made somewhere in Asia now and the quality is mostly indicative in the price.  Real leather will be more pricier than manmade materials.  Here in the States, the larger department stores have a good selection and better quality than the discount stores.  Like anything, you get what you pay for!  As to online, I prefer to try shoes on so go shopping!  No one is going to bother you, really.  In my earlier forays into womens fashion no one ever gave me a hint of scorn or displeasure.  As to heels, don't go too high.  You're limited to where you may actually wear them (unless you just want them for in the house) and in today's casual environment many women wear flats or low heels.  There are some cute sandals with wedge heels that are nice for wearing with jeans or capris.  Go shop and don't fret!

Cheers, Jani

It has been some time since I have visited the UK myself on holiday.  Last time I went to the UK was in 2003,  But I know for myself I bought my first pair of heels at a store called Target.  Not sure if the UK has stores called Target.  When I was in London, I did not see any stores like that.  But, what I was told when starting out wearing heels is to start with a low heel at first like a wedge or a block style so you can keep your balance, and learn how to walk since it is more like 1 foot in front of the other foot and can be a little bit of uncomfort till you get use to it.  I started with a nice pair of 1 inch block style heels and I am still getting used to them and they look real nice where they cost me about $30 US.

Heels.

I go to Marks and Spencer. mainly because they are resonable quality and they do half sizes. Prices can be a little on the expensive side. But you expect that from markys

Really it depends on your style

However its always worth having a looking in Deichman. They are pretty cheap and do some fair quality good looking ones and many half sizes to.

See im stuck in the middle of a 5 and 6. Depends on who and where they have come from

How you can really find them comftable i have no idea. I just wear them if i really have to. Everyday im trainers or boots. Sandals if the weather is nice. So for Scotland not very often . ? Good luck if you do. But it is true. If you wear nothing but it will mess you up. Just be carefull and nothing to high for everyday. Just my advise.

However. I have also got new ones from charity shops. Never worn and a fraction of the price. (I would never buy used. You dont know who had them previously) Thats my personal choice. But people do hand in new shoes on occasion.

Good luck.

I started off with overly high heels and worked down to flats and flip flops.  I found that with my feet and age the pain wasn't worth the lovely site of seeing my feet looking so nice.  Make sure that any shoes you get fit!  Width becomes very important as your toes are forced down and forward.  Heels are best when there is a chair nearby.

I found myself accepting less than ideal fits in order to look good.  As life goes on comfort becomes paramount.

Hugs,

Charlize

I am not sure about heels as I seldom wear them. My issue tends to be my size which is somewhat large for a woman (UK 9.5 / 10). Brantano tend to stock the larger sizes, although their quality is average. I like Pavers or Hotter shoes (some of the wider fitting work) as they are high quality, but only tend to go to size 9 (Uk). Clarks are obviously good too but sizes too small for me.

Thanks for all your advice i am an 8.5-9 (although size 8 widefits fit me fine in some places), so sizing is sometimes an issue.

I saw this concert in which it is said that the famous phrase of Jon Landau "I saw the future of rock and roll and his name is Bruce Springsteen" comes from that night. By the way Bruce opened for Bonnie Raitt that night and she was the better performer . . . just sayin'.

Astronomy and astrophotography.  I have done a few public presentations on the subject and could most likely wing it for an hour without putting you to sleep.   On the other hand if you need a sleeping pill, I could also talk for an hour about flying and you'd be out cold.

Please consider joining us, even if it's just for a few minutes to see what the meetings are like. I've learned so much, had so much fun and gained confidence in myself just by being a part of this amazing group of people. It's a low key, no pressure, non-judgmental chance to just be among people who are supportive, understanding and affirming of each other.    I'm travelling out of state and still planning on dropping in for awhile.    Come see what it's like!!

Thank you, Susan!! It was such an amazing experience for me. I can't remember if I even talked about it on a Zoom meeting.   Here is the link to the post I made about it. And, again, thank you for helping to give me the courage to do it.

Good morning coffees   This probably doesn’t exactly apply to me because you wouldn’t have found a more shy and conservative person than me.  I was perhaps less shy before my sister started complaining about me doing things that were hers to do. And I would become embarrassed and that was the end of that.   upstairs unit got their typical weekend visitors in the middle of the night last night.  They woke me up.  They have little consideration for being in a condo community and the neighbors being in such close proximity.   @awkward-yet-sweet , how goes the job with your husband’s boss?  I don’t recall you saying much about it this week, but I could have missed a post along the way.  If I recall you were supposed to meet with him last Monday.   @KymmieL I hope you are feeling better.     Yes, I find it to be wrong that just because a car part says Ford or Chevrolet on the box that same part with Lincoln or Cadillac on the box cost a lot.more.  I know there are differences in the upscale brands such as the engine and drivetrain in the Caddy and of course the interior fit and finish.  But it’s the same body with things crammed in the same way under the hood.     well, time to finish my coffee, fix my hair and made my way across the street to work.    willow
