lgbt+ as an ethnic group?

Could the term ethnic group be used for the LGBT+ community?

I was in class learning about other cultures and such and we came upon the term ethnic group, and i thought 'maybe you could call being LGBT+ being part of an ethnic group.'

I think that this could be a term used but i honestly have no idea or any sort of real education in this topic just a quick question/ discussion starter.

I wouldn't think so.  I found this definition that ethnicity is the "fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition."   This would rule out LGBT+, as you have written it can be a "community".
