Choosing a Therapist

Sorry if this question has already been asked. It looks like a lot of folks have good things to say about a GT. Where I live, the search tool on this forum does not provide any GT.  But when I google Gender Therapists I get a link to “Psychology Today” and then that brings up a few names.

They have a bunch of various letters behind the names. What qualifications should I be looking for?

I am.thinking I will narrow the list by qualifications and then maybe send an email and ask if they have had transgender patients and how many. A lot of the bio’s indicate most are recent grads and fairly young. While I realize a young therapist needs to start somewhere, I think this is a subject that could be difficult to address.  There are both male and female therapists- I would be more comfortable with a female therapist.  I think I would be apprehensive to go to a male.

Thanks in advance for any guidance. ❤️

Personally i found my therapists by asking other trans folks i knew who they used.

In our area there are several support groups so i had folks i could ask.

Unfortunately i don't know the meaning of many of the letter qualifications mean.  A personal recommendation seems more important.

Let us know how it goes and if you find someone you like please let us know so it can be passed on for others in your vicinity.

Hugs,

Charlize

I found my therapist through Psychology Today.  I had to look up the terms.  Mine was a LCMHC, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor.   Understand that the higher the degree or certification, the pricier the treatment will be.  A friend went to a psychologist and I am not convinced they were better treated than I.  Just don't be put off by licensed  therapists vs. degreed ones.  As far as male or female, you need to go where you feel comfortable.  The first appointment will be an introduction where you can see if you are comfortable with their demeanor, style, views on treatment, etc.

All my best,

Jani

Yes thank you.  I’m due to see a therapist next Friday.  I’m excited.  I’m also a bit scared.  Actually talking to a live person face to face is a scary thing when I’ve been so secretive and hidden all these years.  Kinda like admitting things out loud vs in my mind.

I think there is some truth in this.  They intend to implement Project 2025, whether or not he spends his energies persecuting the Democrats who have been persecuting him (in his view, a debatable point) and does nothing else.   I have seen numerous accusations that the document is about "Trumpism", whatever that is, and is merely a vehicle for him to become dictator.  From what I have read so far, that is the same sort of truth as the Steele Dossier, denying the validity of a certain laptop, Schiff's non-existence evidence of collaboration and a host of other things, many directly from Biden, that are simply not true.   I will continue reading it.

      Who, precisely, are "they"?

Wife of mine pointed out that not getting a haircut for a month looks hideous - weird bald patches.  So back to super- short buzz cut.  This morning I braced, looking in the mirror.  I look like a woman trying to pass as a a guy, maybe  a small-breasted woman with enough T treatment to grow a mustache.    I would not believe me if I read what I write about me.  This is nuts.   White t-shirt: that they sell in the back of WM so you can tie-dye them or otherwise decorate them. They are thick and long lasting and slightly fitted, so that they could be a man's.  I like them.   Jeans, flip flops.   I will no longer point out these are women's.  What else would I wear?

That is all that is necessary. I did the same thing. I must have gotten something wrong.

Quite right mate! I have been letting my hair grow out again (I cut it all off when I was 18).    I'll never look this good:    But I'll aspire to look my best! ☺️

They want the freedom to take ours away.

Yeah, if Trump wins, they'll just flip it again.

Nope.  He is merely a tool for them to get a foot in the door.  Any other "conservative" president would be fine - on the off chance he doesn't actually run. Trump's "policies" change with his whims.  Look how he's trying to back peddle on abortion.  The only thing he stands for is himself.

Wasn't there some question of whether the perp actually was trans?
