Coming out to my possible new primary doctor

Hey everyone, 

My disability issues flared up again a few weeks ago, and as a result, the urgent care clinic I normally visit referred me to their regular doctor's office. I had my first appointment last week, and I managed to get some relief for my issues, although the issues are life long. I have a follow up in early December, and I'm debating on talking to my new doctor then or wait until I get to know her better. I know that if I want to move forward, it's best to be open with her, but obviously, the nerves are going to be there. This is the first time in over four years that I've had a regular doctor, and it's taking some adjusting to get used to it again. I try to only go when I'm sick because I don't like doctors offices because  I spent most of teen years in them for various reasons with little success. Part of me just wants to cancel this doctor and stick with the urgent care on an as needed basis.

Obviously you are in the best position to determine which is the best route for your care but as a general principle I would suggest it best to be open with your doctor as they would be then in a better position to fully understand the factors that may affect it.

 

I obviously know little about the care system over there but if you did stick with urgent care would it always be there if reuired? Also can you try this doctor for a while, being open and seeing how it goes, and if there are problems revert back to urgent care?

 

In general I think a doctor you are familiar with and who you trust is, in my opinion, the better option but, as you imply, trust will take time.

My primary doctor was the first person i came out to who could actually help me.  I knew if i was to move i needed a doctors help.  That was 8 years ago.  I saw her last Monday for a checkup.  We are good friends and being open and honest was a good decision for me.

We are all different but i know it helped me.
