i need help with a teacher

hey guys! ok so before this school year started i emailed all my teachers telling them i was transgender and telling them that i wanted to be called logan and use he/him pronouns. they've all been lovely about it & i've had very little problems.

however, my french teacher's email didn't work at the beginning of the school year, so i didn't get to tell her before the year started. at meet-your-teacher day, where you come and introduce yourself to your teachers basically, i told her that i went by logan but my name was [my birthname] on the roster and she said okay, i'll call you logan. but i didn't tell her i was trans at that point.

so i go to school and she calls me logan when she calls attendance so i'm like ok everything's fine. but then i realize that she doesn't know i'm trans. i wanted to tell her but i kept pushing it back and at this point we're months into the school year and she and most of my french class think i'm a girl...luckily she doesn't really gender me that much and i barely talk to most of the kids in that class and i haven't had any huge issues but i'm afraid that if i keep going like this something bad is going to happen. but i also don't really wanna deal with the awkwardness of having to tell her i'm trans after all this time in her class. any advice??

You should be able to talk to her at some point during the day. Schedule a meeting for her free period, lunch or whatever so you can tell her in private and see how she wants to handle it. Explain what happened. Maybe apologize. It sounds like she'd be cool with it.

 

As a total aside, I have no idea how gendered French is. I took German (and later Japanese. I'm terrible at both). Presuming French is a gendered language it would probably help your presentation in class if you told her sooner rather than later.

With a little effort, you might be able to tell her in French!?

It will certainly be coming out to the class, though.

And yes, French genders everything, sometimes with no rhyme or reason. Hot dogs are masculine (there's a joke there somewhere), for instance. It's because almost all pronouns, articles, adjectives, adverbs have a masculine and a feminine variant, so words get assigned to fit. I believe I recall that some words are gendered because the article sounds better with one than the other.

Sorry. All my French teachers disliked me because I was terrible at conversation but could read, write and translate fairly well. A skill I have not kept up with.

First I’d like to say very well done preplanning this ahead of time via emails.  Telling all your teachers was a huge step!  That was incredibly brave.  
it’s not your fault her email was not working either.  
You did well telling her your preferred name too.  Telling her you are trans sounds easy enough.  Just try emailing her again and explain the difficulties in coming out to folks and this was the best way.  At least for you.  (Me as well to be honest.). 
You sound pretty tough so you got this.
