Holiday events as...ME!

My family is out of town for the holidays, so I decided to experiment with facial hair to see if I look good with a goatee. My family still don't know I'm trans, so having to hide around the house, even with the effects of T happening right on schedule. Anyhow, I scaped the facial hair into a noticeable, if slightly scraggly, goatee and have been enjoying the look so much I decided to sport it at appropriate social events. Went to a coworker's family Christmas Eve celebration and everyone there was very supportive of my preferences! They used masculine pronouns and my "nickname" all night (just one slip-up, no biggie). What kicked the night for me, though, was the grandma with dementia asked who "the guy" was a couple of times! That was pretty cool!

After getting off work today, I decided to do the Jewish Christmas thing of Chinese food for dinner, so I went to the local buffet. It was PACKED! I was still sporting the face-fur, and noticed the waitress calling me "sir" and being so much more attentive and honorific than I've ever experienced before. I sort of started to understand the idea of "male privilege" tonight, and gotta admit, I like it!

So yeah, with facial hair, I get ID'd as a guy pretty well. Now if I could just tell my family so I can sport this all time. I like this!

Congratulations! I hear about a lot of trans-men wearing facial hair for much the same reason (and so they don't get carded in clubs). I'm glad you had a magical male evening.

Hugs!

What a great present you received.  Being seen by others as we have so long wanted to be seen is such a treat!  I think it was that joy that eventually gave me the strength to be honest with my family when the time was right for me.

I'll never forget those first signs of societies' acceptance.  The "mam" felt so good.  I also saw male privilege from a different perspective.

Hugs,

Charlize
