On T and 60

Hi,

I started my  journey to my authentic self a little  over  a  year  ago. I started bi-weekly T  shots in February and had my top surgery 6 weeks ago. Last month i had a follow up with my endo. I  started with * ML every 14 days  but he reduced  me in June  to .*ML every  14 days. I saw changes right away with the * ML but have barely noticed  any difference at the * dose.  He  said my T  blood levels are that of a CIS male my age. He  told me I may not see  the changes beyond what I have now. This makes we wonder if I  should be on the T at all given the health risks it poses at my age. I wanted to know if anyone one else in my age  group is having a similar experience? Is  what he said true? I know everybody is different but I was disappointed by what he said.

Well, for me on E, it's because I think better on E than I ever did on T. While I'm on the hormones my brain actually wants, I get clarity. a certain amount of serenity and I feel better about myself. I have to go off my precious, precious E in two weeks and I'm afraid I'm going to turn into a werewolf. Figuratively, naturally. Though it would be cool to go on a rampage during the full moon, it's probably not conductive to my long-term goals. So yeah, aside from the physical changes, that's what my drug-of-choice does for me and health risks be damned.

So in your shoes, I'd ask myself what does T do for me? How does it make me feel? Do I feel better or worse when I'm chasing the dragon (OK, I'm being silly again). Then I'd stop and ask myself if I think those things are worth the risk.

Hugs!

With reduced dosage you will see change, it will just be slower in coming.  Remember that as we age women and men's hormone levels drop so that may be why your doctor changed your dosage, to get you more in line with a natal level.

You have to weigh the risks against the benefits.  Talk with your doctor and continue to monitor the levels in your body.  As long as you feel good that is a good sign.

Thanks for the advice. I did forget how wonderful it felt the first time I got my shot. I  had a hystorectomy in my 20's due to endometriosis so  my natural estrogen is very low.

I am on what some may call a low dose of E for health reasons.  I have rather severe heart issues so extremes could be extremely dangerous.  I think the same is true for T.  I've been on HRT for 7+ years now and while my E levels are low they are appropriate for a woman my age and i've found the results with time have helped me a great deal.  I would guess that you will see the changes you seek if a bit more slowly.

Hugs,

Charlize

I went on T after being on E for 20+ years thinking it might boost the libido and bring little willy back for the missus, but alas little willy is dead for good and come to find out the missus doesn't miss him anyway, so I'm back on what would constitute a low dose post menopausal level of  a bi-monthly injectable E again and am actually feeling more myself that I was on T. I'm 76 years old and a low dose is age appropriate.

Hey Jay.....I am 65 and started on T a few years back.  I did not have an Endo ….my doctor is MTF and she gave me the standard starting dose.  No Bueno.....like you I must have a high T level.  I liked it made me more "let's get er done",  I did NOT like how sexually preoccupied it made me.  My voice has always been deep and it dropped an octave (constantly heard do you have a cold?), my body fat shifted, my forearms ached (from expanding muscle) and I grew hair in unexpected places (lol).  It was good for awhile but I stopped because of medical issues.  I gave it a break and gave it another shot again...….no pun intended.  This time tried adjusting (lowering)the dosage amount and frequency.  Still it was problematic so I stopped again.   That was close to a year ago.    I feel like I have achieved the desired effects from the first two attempts and I agree is it worth the medical issues to start up again.

My size. A lot of guys aren't 5'3" at seventeen. My hands. It's a less noticeable one, but my hands are very "feminine"? If you know what I mean. My voice. Very high-pitched. I don't just sound like a female, I sound like a little girl sometimes My chest. I've had to stop binding due to frequent aches doing so, and it's not nearly small enough to just cover with baggy clothes My family. They still call me she/her, so that's an automatic out. My anxiety. I might be able to pass better if I had the courage to correct people. Instead, I'm too scared to speak up, so I find it hard. My lack of men's clothes.   Anyone else have these problems, or other ones?

From what I have read and heard most people are so.busy with their everyday lives and either looking at their phones or in a hurry to notice you out and about.

This exactly ^^^   I actually really liked games where I was required to play a male character. It felt homey, in a way.

Yes, our little town is having its 3rd annual Pridefest. I've volunteered the first two years  from setup to tear down (though I do take an hour off to eat and drink in the middle).     Then I attend a bigger one a couple towns over that has had some decent entertainment from some semi-famous folks (Laura Benanti, Patrick Wilson, Carmen Carrera, Judy Gold, etc).    This year I made sure to ask off of (weekend) shifts to attend a 3rd one where a group I'm in is in the parade.

Hi Vicky, I agree with you, so far since the time I've been under the new treating doctor's care, she prescribed me medication, but it's for children lol  luckily  my pharmacy warned me from a phone call not to take the medication.

Welcome to the party, M.A.     Sounds chaotic haha, I can confidently say that living with only two children the same age is stressful enough, much less three!

Things hit the fan today. I was reminded that "this is not a gender fluid establishment."   I had changed my preferred name and gender at the hospital on their app. My x-ray report came in with my preferred name and gender. It was not appreciated by the centre. 😬

I'm not a nutritionist but I've gone on bulking diets in the past so I can suggest a couple things to try. Foremost, food-prep stuff that you like to eat. Any 'real food' that usually sounds good to you. That way, you don't have the time-sink or hassle of cooking for every meal. You're more likely to eat if stuff if it's convenient and mostly ready. For example, I'll spend an hour or so one evening prepping burrito ingredients that will last me the next 3 nights. Then it's just a matter of microwaving the beef/beans and throwing them into a tortilla; takes 5 min.   If you need food 'on the go' often, consider prepping smoothies in advance pre-separated out into individual containers. I personally like low-no fat yogurt blended with fruit and, here's the weird part, those water flavor drops. They add sweetness without dumping in excess sugar. Insulated containers will keep them reasonably fresh non-refridgerated all day so they can even be tossed into a backpack.    Hope of those sparked some ideas!

I did get a sorry from the mechanic, saying it was all on him. The boss just said I just went by what I was shown. I didn't look at the paper work. I thought maybe you should before jumping down someones throat.   I am still in the market. Just waiting to find the right one.   Hugs, Kymmie
