Too Good To Be True

Sally Stone

I'm always on the lookout for a good deal, so when I stumbled across a website selling my favorite wig style for a very low price, I was intrigued.  I like to think I'm smart enough to know that when something looks too good to be true, it probably is.  I guess my curiosity more than anything pushed to me to order the wig.  So using PayPal, I risked ordering from a website that wasn't familiar to me.  I did some online research to verify the website was real and that it was a secure site, but I couldn't find any reviews of service or merchandise quality.

The day after ordering it, I received confirmation through PayPal that my order was being processed, and two days after that, I received confirmation the order had shipped.  This was when I learned the wig was being shipped from China.  Uh oh!  The package arrived today, surprisingly fast service, but when I opened the package it was obvious the wig I received was a cheap knockoff, not the real brand advertised on the website.  I had a premonition while placing the order, that I was probably going to be disappointed, so I wasn't shocked or surprised by the product I received.

This just goes to show that when ordering online, you can't be too careful, and if you find a price that is just too good to be true, you can bet it probably is. Buyer beware.

Hugs,

Sally

Sally, been there...done that.  Don’t beat yourself up about it.  It happens to the best of us.  These days “Temptation” combined with “Wants” can cause a buying disaster with only a few keystrokes.

China can be a real minefield. There are lots of fake goods but even most of the good stuff seems to be made there now.

Yeah, I used to work for a company that did regular business with China. Their practices are... not like ours. I've gotten some lovely things that came from there, but quality can vary wildly. For example, my wife got this great dress for Halloween. It looks awesome for what we needed it for. I can't wash it. There are no tags.

At least you didn't spend too much on it. I'd miss going to the wig store and trying things on though. I don't always go for the same style. As long as I have to do it, I'm going to enjoy the flexibility. Besides, I like to play a little.

Hugs!

Jackie,

I've had so many different wig styles over the years, but when I found this current style (Glow-Girl by Forever Young), it just fit me.  So, it is my go to style. I do though, have several of these wigs in different shades, which allows me some variation.

Hugs,

Sally

Even some cheap(er) wigs can give you good service and be useful for back-up or special use.   If you have learned to care for wigs in general you did not totally waste your money,   Worst case is that you can use it for learning to do the care and some simple maintenance.  The big problem the cheap knock offs have is the wefting is pretty stiff, but you can care for that by washing them and using a regular liquid  laundry softener on them.

This is true.  I had purchased a couple of $60 wigs way back when so I could change it up early in my transition before my natural hair was long enough.  They became a great backup if my main & more expensive wig needed a wash.

Sally as you know, you can never have too many..lol.  Vicky is spot on...as long as you take care of them, they seem to last pretty well.  They do seem to require more maintenance than my higher quality wig.

Ladies,

I actually wrote a post in the Beauty section about my personal wig care regimen.  Check it out.  I have learned a lot about caring for synthetic wigs, and I shared it in that post.  As for this latest wig purchase, not worth even experimenting with, so I discarded it.

Yea I too have been zapped by online shopping and got far less then I thought I would.
Ive always had the guys “gut” feeling about things but still forged boldly ahead and got burned.
Now that I realize those guy “gut” feelings were actually women’s intuition I pay much closer attention to them now.
Though it is always irritating to get burned weather you suspected it or not.

Another story from products from China...

I ordered a hoodie for my sister, it was too small. So I reordered a larger size from the same company, the item they sent said it was two sizes larger than the original size I ordered, but when we compared the two hoodies side by side, the first smaller one was larger than the replacment XXL size that we just ordered.  The larger size was was the first "Large" size, and was larger than the XXL size. As previously stated be VERY cautious when ordering from China, especially vendors that do not refund, or replace.

Just really started reading this thread today and it is fascinating. Thank you for sharing @Sally Stone... I started shaving my legs (and chest and arms) about eight years ago when I was living apart from my wife. I decided then that there was no going back - I just love smooth skin and really hate hate hate body hair (I have quite a bit -- "Hey, nice sweater" people would say when I took my shirt OFF).   My wife is not thrilled but I think in time it just fades into the background and folks don't give it a second thought after the novelty of noticing it. And if they do harp on it, it's like why does it matter so much to you what my legs look like?  I am kind of here too -- I want to express myself more and more outwardly in a feminine way. But I don't hate everything about being a guy. I would probably go 100 percent female dress if society were more accepting of that (and family)...

I was stuck behind a truck for like 6 miles doing 30 in a 45mph zone and when I got the opportunity to pass it I took it. Sped up and passed it and then noticed the flashing lights behind me… I just got my first tickets (other than parking tickets) in the 26 years that I have been driving. The speed limit changed in that area and it was a long downhill grade so apparently I was going 60 in a 40 zone. I was so nervous that I was shaking. Speeding and no registration (it is fully registered and insured but I couldn’t find the registration card). It was still affirming though in that I used my license showing my name to be Lorelei and got “maam’ed” by the cop. He was very professional and told me to plead not guilty and that he would reduce the charges if I came to court. Hopefully he will reduce the ticket to something that doesn’t give points. He told me that I should have given him my PBA card (a friend of mine’s husband is a cop had given it to me) with my license, not after the ticket is already written. The registration ticket will go away once I provide proof that it is registered.  I already ordered the replacement registration from NYS DMV online. Unfortunately the registration is still registered to my deadname of Rory so I will have to bring that up to the judge unless I can get to DMV first to change it first. Overall, this morning sucked.

No idea, so far as I know, if you visit using one of the spammers favourite VPN IPs, you shouldn’t be able to access the forums.

I hear you. My therapist moved to another job at the VA.  I liked her a lot and was very comfortable with her. Now I have an appointment with a new one, but not till June.  I asked for the first one to be in person.  I think I'll be able to see what she's like better that way.

Hi, I’ve found a number of clergy in Orthodox Judaism who are privately supportive of transgendered people. The walls are slowly crumbling 😮

Hi Mealaini (what a beautiful name),   I applaud this attitude; I think that is such a healthy way to look at your situation. I have an ex-wife (who also has a beautiful Gaelic name) and we are such great friends now, having broken up, that we both agree our relationship has never been so healthy. She has found a man she loves; I don’t know if they will last indefinitely but I like him and he likes me and there are no hard feelings between any of us.  Anyway welcome, and thank you for sharing your story. I have been thinking of trying EMDR myself so it’s good to hear a success story.

I was in the field artillery in the early 70's.  At times we had to hump ammo.  A projo weighed around 200lbs.  There were very few women, they seemed to be mostly in the medical roles.  I suppose if you were openly trans, you'd have been kicked out for being gay. But I suppose things are a lot different now.  There are more technical jobs for one thing.  One of my daughters was in the Air Force for a number of years.  Started as an "airman", and came out as a captain (nurse).

I was mostly seen wearing boy's clothes at the time, my parents didn't show me my birth certificate until later on in life, but until then I wasn't old enough to start going to school, and so I hanged out with the rest of the other kids in my neighborhood. My parents decided to keep me home under their observations, they thought I was going through a phase, they couldn't figure out why my feminine mannerisms was consistent. One day at my parents' home, something happened to me which resulted in a car ride to the hospital's emergency room. After getting checked out, my childhood treating doctors couldn't diagnosed what was going on with me? It resulted in me being misdiagnosed and a family car ride back home, this was just the beginning of what would be a series of car rides back to the emergency room. My parents stopped saying I was going through a phase, now something physically was going on with me. Things at home got to the point when I heard my parents questioned about the gender marker on my birth certificate. There's more to my story, but it resulted in the aftermath of a surgical scar, and disappearance of that surgical medical records of what happened to me.

Reading your post, I need to comment I have breast forms and sometimes get a chance to wear them to bed. But wearing my lingerie they always fall out so I wear a more full coverage bra to bed so they stay where they are meant to!

This would be a nice place to start by introducing myself to everyone, I already graduated from high school, and some college. I played the piano when I was younger, and I played in some bands. I used to take walks along the sandy beach, while collecting rocks and seashells along my way, I guess that would be the mermaid side of me.  I like fashion clothes shopping, and spending time with my close friends and family. I'm an online administrator from my own website in the community, and group facilitator in the lgbtqai+ community. It's nice to meet new friends here, and whatever help I can be I'm here for you.

Very simple tonight. My wife and I devoured 1kg of honey & soy marinated chicken wings!
