Walking Like An Indian

Guest angie

Recommended Posts

When i was a teen,i researched my Native American Heritage.

I fell i love with all things indian.

During this period i discovered the story,"Hanta Yo".

It dealt with the plains tribe,The Lakota Souix.

The part that stuck me,and i took to heart.

Was a part describing the way indians walk compared to white folk.

Now,when an indian makes a trail,it's very narrow and straight.

While a white man's,tended to be broad and meandering.

Much like the campfires, whites were big flaming affairs(Bon Fires Almost)

While the red mans was compact and small, just enough for heat and food.

When an white man walks, his feet travel almost side by side.

Ya know, walk with a wide gait, heel to toe- heel to toe ,purposeful strides.

The indian walks one foot in front of the other on the same line.

Like walking a tight rope, toe to heel- toe to heel ,more of a glide.

This walk had the purpose of quiet stalking of prey and enemies alike.

The toe hits first with the heel gently touching down following.

Hmmm, where in the heck is she leading with this monolog you are probably thinking.

The point is this...............Try It...Go Ahead Try It...Not Easy Is It ?

If as you walk, one tries this technique....slowwwwwly,it's a new position for your Achilles Tendon.

You will find with practice,a natural feminine swing come to your hips.

I mean, your bottom will swish and your hips will sway....Really.

It takes time and practice, lots and lots of practice.

Until you get to the point where you are walking on the testicles of your feet without thinking of it.

That is the secret to walking in high heels and getting your wiggle down pat.

But by all means start with tennies,it takes time to acclimate yourself to the change in stride.

It's almost a mincing step,but not quite,just a small light step.

Step out with your toes, and ease to your heel.

Placing one foot directly in front of the other.

That's it ,Good Girl,i knew you could do it.

And that my sisters ,is walking like an Indian, and gettin your wiggle on too.

I know,for it is the way i walk,and have since 14.

Even as a man, just without the wiggle attached.

Peace,

My Sisters of Another Mister,

Love Angie.

I read about this when I was a kid and started walking that way when I played out in the countryside,

pretending I was tracking animals, being quiet and stealthy.

Now here I am trying to undo years of walking like that so I appear less feminine

I can often pass on first glance, but that walk is just so girly :D

I love this topic. When I was a child I was berated for "walking like a girl" by friends ,family and the school yard bullies. It was out of need that I watched how boys walked and began to imitate the swager. much to my delight I was able to put a rest to much of the abuse.

Now as I am in transition I have had to relearn walking! like many transition issues it develops at a pace which mirrors my self acceptance. I now walk like a lady much of the time but still keep a wary eye out for any regression into old habits.

If you notice on fashion "catwalks", the models actually cross over their legs when walking.

I take a more prosaic view of all this. Mostly the way women walk is influenced by their broader pelvic structure.

For any person given the assignment of walking ten miles there is a natural and most efficient style.

Still, there are definitely differences in people's style of walking.

I just don't think I'll change how I walk, I've got better things to think of when I'm walking.

I've got a friend who who works in "Gait Analysis" and I'll ask him about all this.

Personally, this is the only way I can walk in high heels. My Mom once gave me a lesson oh so many years ago to focus on walking a straight line so I could pass one year at Halloween as a kind of joke at her/our workplace. Little did my mother know how much her advice really meant to me.

And my father before had told me how my ancestors would walk from ball to heel on their feet so they could go through the forest undetected to the animals, their enemies, or the white man. And I remember practicing in the woods behind our house. But now that you mention it, it did make it easier to wear the heels. And the last part for me to get that swish swish walk is to just simply hold my shoulders back, and eyes forward in a good posture. And then it all seems so natural.

Uphill and downhill seem easier in heels. It's the level areas that require more coordination for me.

Howdy Ya'll,

First off,Alex, that is the point of it,a very feminine walk/glide.

Now,hey Kelli,Another Texas Girl,Welcome to the Playground.

You'll find it very friendly and welcoming here.

When i was a kid,i,HAD to act like a boy.

My Daddy woulda kicked my butt if i acted like a girl.

It already had since i was little, she just came out naturally,

and i payed the price,oh well, long long ago long forgiven.

Anyways,i grew up half in the city half in the country.

I'm talkn 100,000 acres of nothing but boonies animals everywhere.

And at 16,i found that i don't like to hunt,in a family full of hunters.

Soooooo...what i would do was, take off before daybreak seeking sign.

It's cool, still misty morning on a narrow game trail, and you slide under a hawk in a tree.

Come up on a herd of deer within feet...silently.

The toe heel effortless glide, and the rewards i saw, cemented my style of walk.

Hugs Girls,

Angie...

I asked my friend about how women walk:

Pelvis width and shape changes step width and kinematics at knee for women -

narrower step width (pelvis is wider, but angle difference changes 'q' angle

at knee, and actually creates a narrower base of support = step width).

Knee for women is more valgus (slightly abducted) due to pelvis width and

shape. This leads to more ACL injuries in women during sports.

I know of no studies directly relating anatomical differences and walking.

If a woman has been to 'charm school' (or modeling school), they are taught

to walk with a very narrow base of support, and to turn the feet out when

walking (placing the foot almost directly in front of the previous step,

with the foot turned out, exaggerates the hip motion, creating the 'hip

sway' we are so fond of).

So, I guess the bottom line is that women do walk like Indians.

So should I get a person of Indian persuasion to teach me how to walk? Just kidding.

Mannequin's try to walk like that, so it must be girly.

The first few days at work as Ellen. My boss had a female client and I was walking around.

She asked him, who or what is that? She walks like a woman and sits like a man?

He answered "that's Ellen".

But we all know that there is something walking like a woman or walking like a man. But it also seems possible to sit at your desk as a man or a woman. I still puzzled by the question "what is the difference sitting female or man behind your desk and typing on the laptop.

Hi Anjie, It's great to hear from a fellow Texan. My walk has changed since my post of a month ago. Every once in a while I see a reflection of this woman walking and it kinda startles me a little. It's me! I walk alot in the forests and sometimes I will suddenly find a herd of something or another next to me. The real reward is that usualy they are'nt even bothered at all. It's so cool becuse I can learn so much from them. :D

Thanks angie for telling us about this. My heritage is mostly Indian (12% or something like that) The rest is just white or mutt. :P I walk home from school and I have been practicing then, it's amazingly more comfortable to walk like that!

You make my giddy with joy, angie!!

Young Woman,

You can climb a tree and walk on all fours.

As long as you are happy being you that is all that counts.

This thread is for the girls whom want to or are contemplating change.

It Is Just A Thought...A Suggestion Only.

And,entertaining to boot.

Hugs,

Angie.

=P i never knew that about indians but ive always trained my walk like that whenever i could i'd practice my balance (probobly because i saw a tight rope walker at my gma's work and wanted to have that kinda balence prolly cause it was a girl doing it and i though, when in rome =P)on the gutter curbs sry thats what i know them as, anyways, now my walk is really strait

sry for 2 replies again lol but, lol im a wolf freak too and i learned that they walk run all other forms of movement by the testicles of theyre feet the whole time so i mimicked that run because it was smart less of your fet touching the ground the less speed you lose when stepping (lol smart thinking for a 7 year old i think) so ive already got that walk thing, thank you for explaining why ive never had problems with high heels =P

i'm a quarter indian. oh, you mean native american indian?

it probably just gives a lighter step, which is the typically 'delicate' way that women are supposed to walk, i suppose. my walk is...uncomfortable i'd say, it's like i never know where the ground is :D .

Not to me my dear Miss Petals.

I have walked like this for so long...It's second nature to me.

Even when i was my (manly)self lots of folks noticed the way i walk.

Being a muscle bound mini hulk, kept others comments to themselves.

But my sister and her fellow employees,Did,tell me something about five years ago.

I like the sway my hips have attained recently.

I mean,i can feel my bottom swishing for real.

Hugs,

Angie.

Kia Ora and Welcome back Angie,

I gather you not only walk, but live full time as a woman now...Good to see you back...

Metta Jendar :)

Heyho Ms J,

I have been living fulltime since October the eleventh of 2006.

I got my name change(finally)when the pain of using my birth name on legal documents

became too much.It was time to lay my claim to my real name, leaving(him)in my past.

I could not be a happier girl for doing it also, with no regrets no remorse.

When Im not in shoes my natural mode of walking is on the ballls of my feet. MY main change has had to be learning to lean back (ie not leading with my shoulders) and imagining that my feet actually cross the line of travel; they dont but it gets the hips moving properly.

my feet don't have...

oh, wait, is that a effect of the word filter? Otherwise, that sounds very uncomfortable.

There is another word that we really need to take back!

To avoid the word filter we will all be talking like the Coneheads.

My wife Primat walks on the spherical surfaces on the underside of her lowest extremities, I walk more on the aft most joint attaching the two appendages.

Love you,

Sally

hi vidanjali !! i know exactly what you mean, i do have a few trans and otherwise queer friends nearby me but currently i present as 'cis' for obvious reasons so it's not all that easy for me to reach out and find that kind of community (though i do love my irls!!)   but yeah, i get this weird paranoia that if i come out to too many people it'll end up tracing back to my folks (not everyone knows my family is homophobic and being outed is a big fear of mine)   but im sooo happy to know that that feeling was just dysphoria !! i thought i was going crazy for a minute !!.   thanks so much for welcoming me, and you have a great day too !!

hi susan!! thats very much how i feel !! i have no issue explaining my gender or educating other people on transness but it feels like im talking to a brick wall of misinformation even if they are well-meaning and accepting people ! but thank you anyways for welcoming me here !!

This is a fairly long video by Philosophy Tube,  (Abigail Thorne)  Discussing some of Judith Buttler's work and related stuff.   I wasn't sure where to post it, so if there is a better place, move it.

I have a fantastic therapist. She is so caring she has helped me open up so much. Unfortunately, She is ending her internship. Do to a hiring freeze at the VA she isn't going just go right into a position there.  My Endo is out of the Denver VA hospital. I haven't talked with her in probably 2 yrs. I am  looking to transfer providers and get back to seeing a GYN at the Cheyenne VA.

Shopping at the mall today and helping out at Torrid I excused myself to the restroom. The manager told me the restroom at JC Penny was much closer (I normally use the family restroom in the food court).   Upon arrival I discovered that JC Penny doesn't have a family restroom, it's either or.   The men's room was occupied with customers, and me going in with large breasts, long hair, and makeup was going to cause a stir, so I opted for the woman's room instead. I was the only one in the woman's room.    Texas state law does state that your must use the restroom that matches your chromosomes, and it's a misdemeanor to not do so, but it seemed to be the best choice (I really needed to go!)

I had some guy grab my butt on the ship.  I don't know how "real" it was, but I did not enjoy that at all.  Also did not enjoy the hazing I saw other people going through.  One person can only do so much to stop that when there are 10 people doing it.

This internet video thing is pretty amazing.  I'd call it Zoom, but there are other platforms out there.  I prefer Zoom over Teams because Zoom puts me and everyone else in the same picture.  I like seeing the whole group in one shot.  Teams of course is about having so many people that you can't get them in the shot, or is it?   Just saying that I have never met any of my counselors in person.  Doctors, of course I have and I am lucky there.  They are 3.5 miles from my house as is the main transgender surgery place in town.  I've been doing virtual visits with the medical doctors lately though.  It feels like once I became steady state, they don't need to interact with me physically that much.  I have enjoyed going into their office in my nice clothing.
