FFS Concerns

Belle

Recommended Posts

I keep dreaming of FFS. Then I imagine the pics I've seen of people right after surgery and I worry about being embarrassed during the healing period. And I have seen numerous before/after photos where the transwoman actually looks more masculine! That terrifies me. Plus I worry I would always have to wear makeup to hide the scars.

Does anyone have experience with this or other wisdom to share?

As you know I do not but I do have some thoughts on the aftermath you are worried about.

I would think that if you are at a point where you are going for this surgery you will be in a much more confident place in your journey and you will also most likely have been out for a while to all that know you.  Any embarrassment you think you may feel would be understandable to others already of why you had this done so really there would be no reason to be embarrassed.  In my humble opinion.

Now I will say every surgery has its risks and the outcomes vary a lot from case to case but I am sure you would of done your research and chosen a surgeon that has a great track record.

I am interested in hearing what others have to say too.

It is not one on my "list of things to do" but I am interested all the same.

Besides Belle.  I think you are gorgeous already so why would you need this?

Just saying.....

My wife has a facelift not too long ago.  It is true that she looked a bit freaky for the first week or so, but healing was fast.  Within a month, she was out and about in public looking pretty much normal.  I have followed the progress of trans women who have had FFS, and their healing was similar.

Pick your surgeon carefully.  Then relax.  You'll be beautiful.

While I personally don't feel that FFS is right for me, like @KathyLauren I have a friend who is talking about a lower facelift. It's not her first plastic surgery. Personally, I would murder a village (not a huge one, population 1000 or so max) to look as good as she does but it's her face, she can do what she likes with it. By the same token it's your dysphoria. Do what you feel you need to do.

While surgeons do their best to minimize scarring, it's a risk. Especially as you get older and things start to sag (presuming things like genetic factors and your self-care routine. Example: Linda Carter wouldn't have that sort of problem because DAMN), I suppose you need to consider how much you want the changes to your face vs. the risk of scarring and other complications.

@ShawnaLeigh is right though, your avatar looks great. However I realize that I have no earthly idea what you might have done to it. It looks a little like my friend Amanda.

Hugs!

Hi Belle:

The decision to have FFS is very personal.   For me, there was no question that I felt I could never pass without FFS.

I did a lot of research and finally settled on facial team.   Facial team is an amazing group of surgeons in Spain that pioneered some of the techniques in use today.  Check out their website for lots of details on what is possible.

As it turned out,  the pandemic struck and travel was suspended.   Then I won an appeal with my insurance company and they agreed to pay for FFS state side.     So off I went.   Completed phase one 10 days ago.

I can tell you looking at things in the first 10 days has been scary.   It can take several months before everything settles down.   But the nose is already really nice and feminine.   The forehead is great.   There are very substantial incision scars on my scalp and just back of the hair line.   They will fade over time and will be covered by hair.   The stitches along the nose and for the tracheal shave are not even visible at day 10.  The worst sutures are inside my mouth but they will dissolve on their own in a while.   Nobody will ever be able to see those.

The results aren't perfect but I'm better than I was.   I didn't expect he could remake me into a runway model.    Just don't go in with unreasonable expectations.

I had to also overcome a surgical error that almost cost me my life.   Instead of repeating everything here is the full story:

Anyway, even after that I would not hesitate to do it all over again.

Good afternoon M.A.   Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums, I think you'll find that there are a lot of us who had their first therapist reconsidering our story and recommended us to gender or LGBTQIA specific therapist. I made my first therapist cry after asking me what was my worst experience or memory. She was not prepared for the can of worms I brought to the couch. My second therapist is a gem, she's my age and knows how to work with my thoughts.    My two kids were also involved in the arts programs in school one in theater, the other combined art and modern music.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Welcome.   This can be a good sounding board and a place to say things you otherwise could not. Be yourself. Find out what that is.   Abby

I'm wearing a white t shirt and jeans.  The t-shirt is softer than a man's and slightly girly.  Feeling kinda pretty.

That's very common in internet forums and it is hard not to take it personally sometimes.   You might post "bump" with a smiley face to bring it to the top of the stack, or you might use the @ feature if there are certain people you would really like to have comment on it, and say something like Dear Abby, I would really like your input on this.  Please take a minute and respond.  Thanks!!!

The same for me... That's exactly were MmIndy came from. I started choosing female skins as soon as they became available in the few games I played.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Something else I noticed @Ladypcnj Since I use the Unread tab, I don't see threads I've read again until someone replies to it, or the author adds something.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good morning @Ladypcnj   Some posts get lost in the busy times here. It also maters how people navigate the site. Some only look at their notifications, or tap the All Activity tab which shows them thread they've commented on. (how I see it)... I on the other hand use the Unread tag under Activity. I don't think people ignore post as much as they get caught up reading threads they've already been active in.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

What to do if post is being ignored?

LOL.  I have done this more than once.

Oh yeah, I forgot,    @awkward-yet-sweetwhen your husband finally breaks down and decides to replace the stoves I agree a single professional stove even out of a defunct restaurant might well be the way to go when cooking for all those kids and adults. Certainly better that the situation you describe.  Or maybe from a used restaurant supply where they have professionally cleaned and refurbished it.

Wow, yesterday was a very active day.     @Birdie I hope they figure out where that’s coming from and get you heeled quickly. That it’s nothing serious.  Maybe going to the day care with a purewick will finally convince them to change their attitude.   @MaeBe  especially if you believe you are about to loose your job anyway, what’s to keep you in Minnesota ?  This could be a wonderful thing for all of you Washington State can be wet but it’s really not as bad as it’s made out to be.  If you are west of the cascades it is relatively mild not like MN in the winter time.  And east of the cascades it’s rather desert like around Yakima.     New car shopping can be fun but it can be very stressful too.  We talked about it over lunch yesterday. Strange thing is she kept coming back to the old Ford.  My response was instead of two car payments there woul only be one although I would expect it to be a little higher, but not nearly what two would add up .  Plus I wouldn’t have to continue working as long with only one as when I get the other things paid off I know we can live without me working.  Unless of course, the congress decides to mess with social security.  Right now I have three vehicles I want to look at two are at one dealer and the third at another.  All three are GMs two are newer with lower mileage but are also lower end on the GM line.  The third which is the one that most interests me is a Cadillac.  Let’s see there is a song from way back about a Cadillac and a Hot Rod Lincoln comes to mind.  Anyway it is an XT-5. I get my room and comfort, she gets her nice appointments and the ford hopefully will hang on as a spare for those occasions when we need a second car for me to go to work and for her to do ??  The downside is it has just under 80,000 miles and is a 2020 so in that regard we are slipping backwards from a 2022 with 25000  but going from a sub-compact to a mid-size.  The other two are a compact and a Midsize but neither would provide the expected comfort and features of the Cadillac.  The biggest of which are the pedals that would adjust and the seat adjustments. (My wife is 4’ 10” and I am 5’8” since my spine has shrunk.  The Caddy also has the lane safety as well as front and rear collision warning.  The mileage will go down and the engine requires higher octane gas but that won’t be too much of a drag since we can go to Murphy USA where I work or to Costco which isn’t that far away. 10 miles.  And it’s better than the Ford!   I guess we will see how this plays out later.   Willow

Two things amaze me, One how fast short haired dogs dry. Two how did you keep from loosing your glasses? I'm glad you wear a life jacket while kayaking even on smooth waters such as ponds or lakes. I'm guessing you learned a few things about landing and exiting the kayak.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
