Hey I live in north Hollywood CA. and this virus has shut down everything. I am losing business like crazy and the Supermarket are either empty or se-stock and pack. How is the situation in your hood. I would love to know especially if your from out of the U.S

We're pretty shut down up here too. So far it's government buildings, gyms, schools, bars/restaurants/etc, theaters and assorted other non-critical walk-in businesses (SVS vision). Medical specialists are in flux. My allergist is doing everything they can to minimize risk for example and they've gone appointment only. Everybody that can work from home has been encouraged to do so. We can still get take-out (with limitations), drive-thru and delivery. People have bought all the toilet paper and there has been at least one battle over a pack of TP conducted with wine bottles (one of the participants was in an electric scooter). So yeah, a little crazy.

Ditto here. A good neighbor friend and I were going to get our nails done at a new place she always goes to this morning.  All hair and nail salons are shut down here. I guess the women here are going to start looking as scrappy as the men soon..lol

 

The WA state governor ordered the same restrictions as Jackie mentioned. The only benefit to all this seems to be traffic.  The roads have about half the cars on them as compared to pre-Coronavirus times.

Mine is a bit more laid back in Eastern Los Angeles County.  The big box stores like Costco are ridiculous or sublime, and Smart and Final has per customer limits on some items such as paper goods unless  you show a valid re-sale permit for a business.  There are several limited seating restaurants (Holes in the wall) that are doing OK, and folks my age have found hours where it will be just us, and the places are living up to the County "A" grade Health Department inspection reports. 

 

For me, its the short tempers of those in the low risk categories that are doing the most damage to themselves and others.  I live by a community of recent immigrants and it is pitiful to see the elderly ones with so much fear in their eyes and their older children with the animosity in their faces.

As usual  people seem  to have lost whatever  common since they had  ( more and  more   over shopping in grocery stores  ,stealing of  medical protection gear  ,  Stockning  up and try to get rich of others   by selling  WAY over  ord  Prices  and  granted  were  SO FAR  one of the  few  countries  that try to NOT go overboard   and stir crazy  all at once  and base  our desitions  on medical profetinals  who are paid  and  trained for this. things  have and  pretty much daily   get worse    and more and  more restriktions  come to place. But yes  as  you all  business  shut down  , Borders are closed  ,  restriktions  all over  the board   , those that can work home   are asked to do this High school, Adult  school   (so far  not  Elementary school tho  BUT it will come  )  are closed  down from tomorow  and so on .......    and more  coming  EVERY day   with new  restriktions and  closing more and more of the society down    

 

What i would like to say to you over there in US  and Canada  is DONT take this  lightly it WILL hit like a sledge hammer all over the country and the globe.  Stay clear  of  big  gatherings be THURAL  with the  hand  cleaning  and above all  STAY HOME  IF  you have symtoms DONT risk it or you risk  making things  100 %  worse then its alredy is. All i need to say is  look at  EU  (ie Italy, Spain now also  UK  etc.....   )  and you get the Picture on how things go when not  accepting the  limitations   when given.

 

We are also hit  hard  BUT  so far  NOT as hard  and fast as  many countries in EU . But aparantly according to the  experts  we are closing in on the upcoming peek tho  (NOT by far there tho  yet  but  closing )  EVERY day  is filled with new   development  and further  restriktions or  business  that close down  and  are in DEEP trouble  (the so called  service   market restaurants, Hotells, Entertainment ,Flight,  Boat  etc...   So youre NOT alone out there  this  is global.

 

But so far  our  goverment  have done  an EXELENT job   in handling this crisis as have  the  Swedish people who accepts  and  obey the  restriktions as they get implemnted.

 

My humble advice  is  DONT  belive  the BS  on Social or indeed   every kind  of  media  or even those  higher up that tries to  tone down this and they have it all under control because thats FAKE news. LISTEN to the   experts . And in the mean time we all just have to try to  suffer  thru this    as best as we can  and hope there will be something left  when this  cirkus  is  done  and moved  on.

 

LEARN from China   and  get scared   and learn from Italy (and  most of  EU  )  mistakes  

 

So far  we have  9 deaths RIP  all older  (70 + )  with underlaying diseases   and  now starting to climb sadly as do the   kontamination  rate  that is wide over the  country   from south to north.    

 

May whom ever  is  up there  have mercy on us all and help us  get thru this  in one  piece  and  lets  hope something  is left  of the society and the world we knew before this  

 

Ps  personally im not that worried about this disease if i go i go simple as that.  Im more worried   about the   after math of this  and  the  extreme  price we all have to pay .

someone just told that San Fran is under a quarantine curfew no one is a allowed in the street expect if you work in essential job..is that true. And the government give everyone a $1000 to help through this crises is B.S . I am sorry this L.A that doesn't even cover my rent. Forget about food and Meds. a Thousands dollars!! rich people have no idea what's it like out here...no one I know can survive on $1000 for a whole month forget about  two months....Well time to buy a tent

If you've got a good tent, it's even better.

Things are only modestly crazy here.

Schools closed, lots of things shutting down, most people (myself include) are hunkered down with their supplies and food.

I spent today rebuilding a computer that was misbehaving, adding a 4tb hard drive to the disc pile. I'm pleased to report that my handiwork seems to be okay.

I'm looking forward to the shut in period, trying to make the best of things using the time to draw, etc.

Most of the city & county building are shut down. All the schools are shut down. even the bus garage. They even even as far as shutting off the pass keys. My wife is a custodian at our middle school. She was supposed to work 3 days this week. (it is spring break here) She came home early yesterday. they will let her know when she can go back. Luckily she is getting paid for the time off.

 

At my work it is business as usual normal hours. M-Sat. 7:30-9. 9-8 sun. No sign what so ever that we are going to close on our own. When it is mandated I think we finally will. Sad. As we cannot socially distance with our customers.

We just had the National Guard deployed in our State (WA).  Apparently, 5 other states have also deployed the Guard today.

 

In other news, the local situation is getting bad.  I live in a Snohomish County just north of Seattle.  The infected are increasing rapidly. Two more people passed away overnight.?

Over here in Washington state things have been pretty spicy. I am pretty much confined to my house and can't even go to the park across the street. Though I live on a military base so things are slightly stricter. I am out of school til April 24th and now my move has been post poned to may 11th being the earliest. This kinda sucks and I wish I was able to get outta here in time. 

 

On a lighter note I heard there was a vaccination being tested right now. Fingers crossed.

VT has not gotten as bad as other places but like others the state government has closed down all the same things. A lot of people are working from home now if they can.  Our grocery stores did not look to bad last weekend and we have 8-12 cases here.  No deaths as far as I know.  The hospitals I work in are starting to tighten their belts and restrictions are starting on access.  
I am sure it’s far worse for business at this point but I can imagine everyone is going to feel the pinch before this passes

I am glad to be working the farm.  I'll be driving the dump truck to Lancaster PA to get f supplemental feed for the goats.  All the does are nursing twins + now so some extra helps.  Odd for the first time we ordered online and have to call the office so the guys can load the truck.  Everyone is finding ways to minimize contact.  . glad because like me livestock needs to eat or others won't later

These are strange days. I call it the viral apocolipse. We in America got caught flat footed largely because our government stuck it's head in the sand and pretended it wasn't going to happen. 

 

Here in Grand Rapids, Michigan, we are seeing many similar things as most other areas. Closures and cancellations, shortages from panic buying.  My sister's business went from booming to struggling practically overnight. Her business is largely dependant on the travel industry. Speaking of the travel industry, the airlines are in the process of potentially shutting down. American Airlines have warned their employee's that travel demands may tank to O% capacity. All 3 of the major airlines in America, Delta, American and United are cancelling numerous flights and grounding aircraft.

 

It's time to shorten sail, batten down the hatches, and prepare to ride out a hurricane. I can't even begin to predict what may happen from day to day. So far, I'm still working. I've moved into my new apartment. I can't do much exploring of my new area though, because we're not supposed to go out if we don't have to. They say this could go on until anytime from late May to possibly August.

 

May these days end sooner than later.

I am only stuck at home for two weeks so far, but it will probably be lengthened to 3 pretty soon, and since my county is counting it as snow days, I will be in school until July.

Well, on my side, the restriction made by my government might seem "rushed" as there aren't THAT many cases in Luxembourg yet (above 200 contaminated people, 2 deaths), but the reaction is mixed. On one side there are the "too relaxed" people, which is bad because they foolishly "continue to live" as if nothing, endangering mostly the weak population, there are those who are fairly relaxed but do respect the quarantine, there are those who are worried but are able to keep themselves together, and then there are those panicking to the point of stealing stuff from shopping carts, rushing all at the same time in the same place (when crowds should be avoided) and those who are paranoid and overreact just at sight like avoiding walking on the same street as you. All in all, it's a very varied landscape.

 

Like most countries, I assume, things are changing pretty much day to day so what I can say is only valid as I'm saying it for now. For example, on Friday bars and restaurants could still open up until midnight, but because border dwellers rushed in my country (as bars and restaurants were completely closed on the other side of the borders) it was decided less than 24 hours later to have them completely closed as well.

 

And from Sunday and Monday on, modifications kept being brought. I'm gonna list most stuff I can think of that can be brought up. This will probably be lengthy, my apologies, but if it can inspire some people who don't really know what could to happen or what they can do, maybe this comment could help.

 

All level of schools are closed and are to be arranged to be pursued online, but it's up to see how much it is doable for the younger one.

All shops except those selling necessities like food, medicine, hygiene products and such are closed.

It is highly encouraged for businesses to either telecommute or put their employees on layoff. By this Friday, all building sites will be put on hiatus. 

The post, banks and other financial or communication business remain open, but were reorganized in smaller groups to minimize the risk of having a whole business frozen. Same goes for repair, fuel, news, laundry, funeral and other "functional" businesses.

The government is into crisis state, with the extra rights going with it. (a lot of politics weren't even allowed anyway as they were too old and so more at risk anyway)

Certificates are currently being prepared that will serve as an authorization that your boss must send you so the police can check you're allowed to go to work. I haven't heard anything about shopping or going to the doctor yet.

To avoid contamination, you gotta call the doctor. Depending on your symptoms, he'll either ask you to come over, go to your home, or send you to a medical center.

All medical centers in the countries have rearranged their openhour and their systems to treat any potentially contaminated person.

All none-vital medical appointments are cancelled.

You are not allowed to visit anyone except for an emergency.

Care facilities and hospital facilities cannot be visited.

 

On another note, the police is already patrolling, even in smaller villages. I live near the Belgium border, and for the first time in my live I saw a police car patrolling in my insignificant village. I was shocked.

 

For now the confinement is limited to three weeks, but it will most likely be stretched. I guess the government wants to prevent things to escalate too quickly and overcharge the hospitals. As a small country, Luxembourg is fairly limited in that area.That said, you can walk outside for now, but you have to keep your distance (2m), to get some fresh air if you don't have a garden for example, but of course it's best to stay inside.

 

There's also "self-protection" that is recommended : washing your hands regularly, not touching your face, no kissing or handshaking, cough or sneeze in a tissue and throw the tissue away immediately after usage.

Don't buy medical masks : they are needed in hospitals where people are constantly in contacts with contaminated people or in laboratories where they are working with said virus. The point with that is to avoid to end up like Belgium where hospitals had to demand people to donate whatever medical mask boxes people had bought because it had so rapidly gotten out of stock in shops. And even if the State distributed a lot of those masks already for the professionals who need it, their stock isn't unlimited.

 

Also, there are artists or museums doing live stream shows to compensate the loss of cinema, theater, museums, etc.

Another thing from my understanding, those masks are not designed to stop viruses but are more for filtering larger impurities like pollen and dust.  They are far from perfect.  A virus is so small it will pass straight through that mask so it really offers zero protection from that anyways.  And yet, I've been seeing people here wearing them.  Not my place to say what they should or should not do.

 

Here it is certainly crazy, too.  Last week, my employer recommended that around 88% of our employees work from home through the end of this month.  On Monday all of our US offices became hard closed during this time, and it is likely the work from home thing will extend until next month.  I am at least fortunate that I work for a company that is so flexible with remote options that we can continue working during this crisis, but my heart goes out to anyone that is not so fortunate.

 

Grocery shopping so far has been a shock to me, going in intending on getting what I usually get only to find panic shoppers have stripped the shelves clean.  I've not yet encountered a situation where I was unable to get what I need, but I've often had to settle for brands I don't normally get.

 

What really gets my anxiety going right now, though, is how little care people have here for social distancing.  They don't know if I have the virus, and I don't know if they have it, yet I've encountered more than a couple of times people who were either approaching my  bubble so to speak without regard or came up from behind and blindsided me whisking straight past me without a care or a thought. ?
