Sister Sizes?

In my search to find my bra and cup size online I have stumbled across the term, "Sister Sizes".  Now I understand what this means but it throws a whole other dimension into find out what your size is without a fitting (that I plan to get asap).  

I suppose the technician in me does not get how you can be a 38C size but wear a 36D and have it fit the same or close.

The math does not compute!

Your band size is what it is.  

So how does Cup size play into over all girth of a band? 

By adding material in the middle to widen the space the band is connected too?

That all I can figure.

I measured at a 38A.  I think they were being kind, or there’s no such thing as a 38AA.  I couldn’t fill any of the 38As that they had.  So I wear a 36B.  It’s more comfortable with an extender.

Yeah, @KathyLauren, I'm a 46A. I've got a couple XL (because they don't make 2XL) Ahh Bra's, a 46A/B t-shirt bra and a 46A padded bra that more-or-less fit. Other than the Ahh Bra's they were super hard to find. The usual assumption is that if you have a 46 inch chest, your breasts must be huge.

I've got another eighteen months or so before I abandon hope on the girls getting bigger without surgical intervention. I have faith in them. The women in my family generally have breasts so high hopes.

Of course I got every OTHER bit of bad genetics in the family tree so... 

 

And @ShawnaLeigh, keep in mind that breast tissue continues (or at least can continue) from the chest to the underarm area. They're not strictly bags of flesh on your chest, instead they wrap around a little. Depending on which type of breasts you have (because they come in different shapes) you can find a better fit by moving the... apex of the curves... away from each other.

I have got about 6 different sizes (if only that many) of bra's that fit wonderfully and look good.  Only two of them are from the same manufacturer, and one is a front closure and the other a back closure bra there.  @Jackie C.makes a point I was going to make because about 25% of my breast tissue is in my armpits, or close and thus the front vs back closure variation since putting on the front closure pulls me forward and back closure --- you get the idea.  Bra fitting is an ART and NOT a science and one size MIGHT fit someone but they haven't come in the door yet. 

 

I have a store near me that  makes custom bra's as well as selling some brands that are a bit obscure as well as the major brands. One of the owners who helps me from time to time has me pick out a style I like and then she measures me and tells me I am not going to find one in that brand that fits me no matter what the size says, (but lets me prove that to myself) or she suggests a slightly different style that does fit me nicely and half the time is cheaper.
