Plague vacation, and the "end"?

ToniTone

Recommended Posts

So plague vacation it is. My store closed yesterday. I have the option of taking one month paid catastrophe leave off, which is an option available anytime during this pandemic. Or l can transfer to a drive thru only store, and take the leave later.

Should I take the leave now, or save it in case this gets worse?

I'm so scared and depressed. The world is never going to be the same. This might be the end. And on a selfish note, I was just starting to get my life back together. Been transitioning almost a year and living for the first time in my life as my authentic self. For once in my life I was content, heck I'd even dare say I was happy. And now the whole world is burning down around me...

How are you all holding up?

Do you think we'll recover from this?

If it  keeps you busy to work the other store. keeping busy is one way to avoid depression's worst parts.

I'd go ahead and transfer. This could take more than a month and you don't want to be without income.

Bored, but otherwise OK. Thanks for asking! My socializing moved online for the duration. A little sad that I'll be celebrating my birthday Tuesday in the middle of the pandemic, but what can you do?

Of course. It's a big deal, but it's not a civilization ending big. There's going to be some changes obviously, but we'll settle into the new normal soon enough.

Hugs!

I've been helping with my town's response to Coronavirus and was told by someone who should know, and I cannot name for obvious reasons, that this will be an ongoing situation for another 12-14 months. I'm now self-isolating, not because I am ill, but because I have underlying health issues and if I catch it, I may well not survive.

Having said that, I may already have had it as I was pretty ill (cough, temperature, off my food, almost unheard of, the last) earlier in the year, and came through it okay. SO, if you get the opportunity to work, and work SAFELY without risking your health or the health of others, then take advantage of the income whilst you can.

As long as you are healthy, transfer to another store.  Why: financially sound and its socially healthy to be in contact with others rather then at home alone.

This Virus thing has put a complete stopper on my life. Every surgery procedure i was scheduled for has been cancelled. Everything...

Even non-intrusive ones like laser hair removal and Carpal Tunnel Release. I a not infected but i know people that are.

We've been on lockdown since Thursday in my county, Riverside. The entire state of California Friday. Hopefully, I'll get paid today so we can get some groceries... The cat has more food than we do lol.

Hopefully you'll first in line when things return to normal @Michelle F.  Hair removal procedures do involve closeness that isn't recommended so I understand.  I'm not happy about it but...

Got to keep your cat fed.

My store has shut down completely until further notice.

Good old Boris has promised me 80% of my wages. Which is ok. I'm just going to endure the unexpected time off.

I have been socially isolating myself.  Giving everyone a wide berth and washing those hands often. However, I'm still really surprised at how many are not really what would seem paying any attention to the guidance. I think its a kind of "It doesn't affect me". or "doesn't apply to me" Problem with that attitude is so it may not affect you if you're young. You may get it and it lingers for a while but. It will affect those that are around you and your older family if they cop a dose of it. It's just so selfish. It really annoys me. That my mini-rant over.

Answering the original post.

ask yourself if you're doing drive-through. is that a risk to you personally?  If it's going like the UK which is a gnat's hair away from enforced lockdown then soon you may not have a choice. To get an idea. Even mac Donalds is now closing its doors and not reopening until this has blown over. Not that im a fan of maccy D,s but for them to close is unpresdented

Hey T. keep busy, because I couldn't and now I find my sobriety is down the toilet and I feel my depression coming back. I am trying everyday to keep busy, but everything is closed in C.A and now they say you can't even go out for a walk. All of my clients are gone ,but if I had your optiions I would stay as busy as I could. Be safe

Thanks hun ?

I talked to my boss. They made it so the 30 days don't have to run consecutively. So I could take some time off paid, and have the remainder available if I need it later. Also, those who work during this pandemic get paid $3 more an hour than the standard wage, which is tempting and incentive to go back. I'm so glad Starbucks arranged it like this, there's flexibility with my options.

I'm gonna take this next week off. I might look for a cheaper place to live closer to my ma (she's really worried), downsize my storage, still need to stock up on essentials (good luck). If I move I need to find a drive thru store that has availability and I can commute to. I have a lot of stuff to figure out. And I'm really stressed with this whole situation, so I need this week at least off to decompress.

Keep your chin up ?

Well, the good news is I haven't been furloughed yet, the bad news is I had to agree to a 15% pay cut for the next three months.  It is certainly better than the furlough alternative.

Ladies (and gents - sorry about that guys), the best way to shorten this pandemic is to heed the rules and hunker down.  There are so many people still acting as though nothing is wrong.  That's selfish, plain and simple.  Yup, this is hard, and unfortunately, we haven't even flattened the curve yet.  If we all follow the heed the warnings and follow the advice being given, we will get through this.

My heart goes out to all, but we are all in this together.  Sorry Toni, didn't mean to hi-jack your post.

Hugs,

Sally

Thanks Toni good luck with all of it and What Sally said.....Althought staying at home is making me drink and eat like crap. To tell you the truth I rather get this stupid virus loss weight and stop drinking or get the Cv and die.,Either way its a lot better then sitting at home  playing the waiting game, good luck

@Alex C I don't blame you for wanting to drink, but all I'm gonna say is don't burn the candle at both ends hun. This might be a good time for some self care and healing.

Your fine @Sally Stone! I made this post bc I wanted to vent all my anxiety, fear and depression about what's going on. But I also made it as an open thread for y'all to vent as well, or hopefully let us know that you're ok. We are all in this together ? it's a comfort. I can't tell you how much I depend on someone to just tell me it's going to be ok...

We did pretty well for almost 40 years.   But by then we were kinda moving in different directions spiritually and on some other things.  I might have moved the most significantly.  I think my trans woman was trying to assert herself, although it still took a little more time for the egg to crack.     I was the one who moved out (although we had been sleeping in separate rooms for about a year).  I was satisfied to just be separated, but after a bit she filed for divorce.  I didn't contest it - our kids were all adults by then.  She remarried, I haven't.  Now her husband has died and she is back in this area.   Yeah, we are still friends, but sometimes it's hard for me if I've been around her.  I do miss her.  She uses my now name and gender for me.   I am lonely.  I think I could remarry, maybe, if I found the right person, but I don't see much chance of that.  I'm in my 70's, this is a pretty conservative area, and I am a transgender woman.  So this is how it is - at least for me.

That is am what I planning on. Take the defensive driving class after the conviction and all goes away aside from the fine I pay. My vehicle is a commercial vehicle (10,000+ pound diesel pickup truck with commercial plates), but since I exclusively use it for personal use so I do not need or have a CDL.

I seems like I am dreading going to my job more each day. So, I take it as a sign to jump ship. All the time I expect to be chastised. It is not a good way to have a job. I am on the hunt for a new one, however nothing has surfaced.   Kymmie

I'm currently on the ballot for an open US Representative seat in Portland Oregon.  Here are some of the news stories on me:   Rachel Lydia Rand on Ballotpedia: https://ballotpedia.org/Rachel_Rand#Campaign_themes KATU 2 (ABC) Know Your Candidates 2024: Rachel Lydia Rand https://www.katu.com/news/know-your-candidates/rachel-lydia-rand-d-congress-district-3 League of Women Voters Candidate Forum for US Representative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOoS39CTEOw KOIN 6 Written Interview | top issues, what's going right https://www.koin.com/news/politics/rachel-rand-on-running-for-district-3-top-issues-whats-going-right/ League of Women Voter's Interview with Rachel Lydia Rand https://youtu.be/V5o9RKE3WVo     This is my third time running for US Rep.  Campaigning is very challenging for me because I only have two family members still alive and I've spent less than 2 weeks with them in my life and I have virtually no social network to start with and I don't belong to any social media sites.  I haven't even been able to post here and on sites like it because of rules about self-promotion.   I'm boldly saying in these videos that I want to be appointed to vice-president in the next 5 years.  My platform is about addressing climate change and everything that comes with it.  Population decline is the number one proposal I have and it is very, very scary and controversial for most people.  The way I see it is that oil is more than a fuel we burn in our cars, it's a substance we pave our roads with.  And it will run out, so at some point in the future, most of these roads are going to go away and we'll have a much harder time distributing food.  I play chromatic pennywhistle and I'm this iconic whistleblower politician saying that we will not be able to support 10 billion people at the end of the century on wind and solar power.  Even solar panels are made with oil and there isn't much difference between a wind turbine and a dam.  If we can build skyscrapers and nuclear power, then you'd think we'd be able to figure out how to make a wind turbine 100 years ago.  It's simply not as efficient.  The numbers I've crunched say that if we have one child for every two women for the next 40 years and then go back to normal replacement rate, we'll get our population down to 2 billion by 2099 which is where the world was at in 1950.  If we don't do that and stay on this current path for the projected 10 billion by 2100, then when oil runs out and climate change raises sea levels and floods coastal cities, humanity is going to be in a very uncivil situation.   I'm sorry that I'm not making a huge issue of transgender rights.  Of course I'm here to support our community.  I'd be highly visible on our national and international scene as a transwoman.  I tend to focus on engineering realities rather than these social issues.  It upsets me that people take engineering for granted.  People tend to just get in their cars and think that there will be some space age technical solution that will make it all OK.   OK, that's my rant for the day :-)  Coffee is on.  4:26am.  The ABC station is interviewing me again in a few hours and people can vote for me today.  Please consider spreading the word.  I'm only one person and it takes an incredible amount of effort to keep my political thinking and platform going.   Sincerely, Rachel Lydia Rand Jazz Musician | Software Engineer
