Questioning and feeling alone

Julia

Recommended Posts

So I’m afab and have been questioning my gender for probably more than a year now, and my biggest issue is that I can’t seem to find other people who approached/are approaching questioning from the same angle or are having a similar experience to me. Obviously everyone’s experiences are different, but it seems like I can’t find even a shred of familiarity anywhere.
My issue isn’t that I don’t have access to resources or definitions (I have probably read them all multiple times), or that anyone close to me would be particularly unaccepting, or even that I’ve grown up in an especially cisnormative environment. I can barely explain or conceptualize how I feel about my gender so how can I relate it to any terms?

All media shows about questioning is like this:

Person A: *says something that indicates not being cis*

Person B: well what do you know, here’s a webpage with convenient definitions of gender identities

Person A: *looks at them all and keeps going back to one* this...speaks to me

Person A: *comes out*

But for me I learned all the terms when I thought I was just an ally, and I still can’t figure out what suits me.

I know that I don’t have to find a label but I would really like to find SOME sort of clarity and structure because that’s what makes most sense to me.
I have a lot of anxiety that makes it hard for me, like that I’m just trying to get more diversity points or something???(ridiculous) and whenever Reddit threads or wherever say “if you’re questioning it, probably means you’re not cis” it does not help me to feel more valid. [this is exactly what the sexuality forums said and surprise surprise I’m bi/ace but still]
Find your gender quizzes are usually garbage but it still bothers me when the questions ask “how do you feel about your assigned gender” because...I don’t know that’s why I’m here.
Specific things I feel:

Breasts are usually fine, but sometimes I really love wearing a sports bra to look flatter and if I could acquire a refundable binder to try out but send back if it actually doesn’t help would be great.
If I have any dysphoria it’s very minor; I feel like I mostly just have Euphoria or Confusion.

When there’s a gender option on a form I get excited if I don’t have to pick female or male, and will choose ‘other‘ if no one is watching me fill it out.
I feel really great presenting femininely like 90% of the time with no issues.

My feelings on being afab vs amab and how I feel about my body are very weird and probably need another thread to discuss.

Sometimes I think I want to try different pronouns (like I feel sort of neutral that people use she/her now, wouldn’t want he/him, but would try they/them or neopronouns)

Until recently I used the women’s washroom with no qualms, but lately I realized how happy using a genderneutral washroom makes me so now I think about it more.
If I have to identify myself as female or hear others say that about me it feels uncomfortable and like I’m hiding something (anxiety brain tells me it’s just cause I’ve been thinking about it all so much)

A lot of the things which I think are gender euphoria are like stereotypically feminine things (dresses, nail polish, shaving legs), which doesn’t help me to feel validated because “I would do that anyway if I wasn’t questioning”

This is long and it’s really late and it’s probably incoherent lol but I just want to hear other people’s opinions on this.

(PS, I’m new and if anyone can tell me the difference between using quick topic and start new topic I would be so grateful)

Hi Julia, welcome to Trans Pulse ?

You have come to a good place to learn about the things you are feeling, or at least other peoples experiences of similar things. You are not alone and among friends here. Please don't hesisitate to read around and join in the discussions. You will learn a lot.

At the moment , as I think you realise, you are tending to over-think things. Don't worry about exactly what something is called or how you may describe yourself in definitions. These don't matter as much as understanding your feelings and living with them. That way you will relax into who you are rather than who you feel society will classify you as. You need to explore to understand and there is professional help available, in the shape of gender therapists, if or when you may need them. Please ask questions if you want as there are many here with experience or similar thoughts.

Hey Julia! Like @tracy_j said, labels don't matter. The only labels that matter are "Julia" and "Me." The trick is finding out who you are and what you like. If you're mostly happy with your gender, but like the occasional stroll to the other side, consider cross dressing. I have a friend who does that to relieve stress and it works fine for him. If that's not enough, then maybe look into more permanent treatments, but it's perfectly OK to experiment a little. Figure out who you are. I'd also suggest finding a gender therapist (or heck, just a regular therapist) who can help you by holding your hand on your voyage of discovery.

Whatever you choose, welcome to TransPulse. I'm glad you're here. Feel free to read, explore and chime in when the mood strikes. Someone is always ready with encouragement and friendly advice should you need it.

Hugs!

Good morning Julia,

Like you I'm new here, and just want to let you know that while you may be by yourself, you're not alone in your feelings.

They make supplements for hair growth I have been using one for four months and it is now at 6" long when I had nothing before. Although I take more than the pills. I take growth spray, oil, and a supplement that is added to a drink. My hair is very healthy. Unfortunately it's very curly so it'll take longer to grow

That's a toughy to say. But I do know that it's an area for improvement with me. I can get pretty down on myself sometimes. I guess I have to remember that I'm human just like everyone else, not perfect. And that's okay.   Lots of love, Timber Wolf 🐾🪻

Good morning    On this date in 1972 it was a Saturday. I  made a pledge to love and honor my wife and keep her forsaking all others.  I have kept those vows and here we are celebrating our 52nd anniversary still together.  Still caring for each other through sickness and in health.  Still sharing our lives.   Other than that, it’s another day near the beach.  80 and mostly sunny.     I found a ‘17 GMC Acadia yesterday I want to take a look at.  It’s a bit more than I wanted to spend but it’s doable. Only 69k miles on it, with the low mileage I put on cars these days it probably won’t ever hit 100k if I do beget it.  Low mileage now is  likely because it was a leased car at some point. Those usually get pretty good care and not a lot of miles.  It would be similar in size to my Ford, 7 passenger seating but a more basic trim which is fine.  It only has a 4 cyl engine so potentially rather under powered for a relatively large SUV.  The ford has a 4.0liter 6 which is a bit large for cars these days.  Instead of full time all wheel drive, it apparently has 4 modes, 2, 4, sport (what ever that is, I presume it’s over drive turned off) and anti slip.  It’s probably not going to happen but I am keeping my eyes open for a good deal. The old Ford is just that, an old worn out Ford.  Since I bought the Ford I’ve only put about 10k miles on it in 6 years.  My daughter once had an Acadia, top trim package.  When she was driving back and forth to work close to 100 miles per day and going to Philadelphia every week another 500 or more.  For her the miles added up fast.   still keeping my eyes open.  This is about the right age and size but I was hoping to spend about $2000 less.   Other than that I hope to meet with my minister today about paper topics for my class submission.   Other than that Monday is laundry day so I’ll be doing several loads of laundry today.     I put on a neutral gel nail polish last night.  I tried this before, however, I don’t believe I correctly understood the how to get a good result so I was more careful this time.  All I want it’s to give my bpfinger nails enough strength to grow out just a little and stop tearing.   Well, I need to call to make an urology appointment.   @Birdiei was born in Ohio and until Lamda Legal sued them you could not get a sex change on a birth certificate for any reason.  Now you can.  In South Carolina a name change requires $300 and a form filled out and filed with the clerk of courts.  But a gender change requires a birth certificate with the new gender listed.  I am hoping they will permit gender X eventually but right now the state is too Red to do any such thing.   Willow

I have the problem, that I see myself at 3 maybe 4 on the list. I don't have the self love that I should have.   What does it mean to you?   Kymmie

Seems the stuffy day-centre has swapped out Psychiatric Services and therapy to the local BSA hospital. BSA works closely with the local university and is much more gender accepting than the day-centre. The day-centre's psychiatrist wanted to treat me for gender dysphoria by correcting it. 🙄   I logged into MyChart app at the hospital and updated my preferred name (Birdie) and preferred gender marker for them to use.  I'll try and get a referral for gender therapy at the hospital as well.    Nevada is my place of birth and I found out changing the gender marker on my birth certificate there only requires a letter from a licensed therapist, but a name change still requires a court order.    Changing the gender marker to female would at least be one step in the right direction, then I could renew my ID to state female instead.

Well today by attention wise was downright horrible. My legs can't stay still, can't focus on a project, my mind wanders around a lot, constantly fidgeting, easily distracted, couldn't even tell you what the sermon was about but there was vine on the altar and attention to detail sucks. I have read that it is possible to have BPD and ADHD. My mind even wanders during prayer. If I have both I won't be able to take Adderall because it makes my BPD symptoms worse. I keep having side effects that come up from my 3 traumatic brain injuries.

If it wasn't so *EVIL*, I would have to laugh.  Everyone knows that trans women in particular have such an overwhelming superiority in poetry that the competition would be unfair if they were allowed to enter.  You can't make this stuff up!   Seriously, sorry for making light of it.  But it is only by highlighting the utter absurdity of this kind of crap, whether it occurs in Russia or Florida, that I am able to hang on to any shred of sanity.

I used to fully agree with this statement, that is, until the first lockdown   Everyone I knew around me was affected by the pandemic. they couldn't work. they couldn't see their friends. they felt bored/ frustrated they couldn't get out of the house   and then there was me who welcomed it, because for once in my life, I didn't feel like a loser- and after lockdown, when everyone looked forward to going back to work or going out, well.. I had nothing- and I felt that no, I wasn't normal because I didn't have a life to get back to
