sounds kinda ominous at the federal level....

"Washington (AP) — The Trump administration Friday finalized a regulation that overturns Obama-era protections for transgender people against sex discrimination in health care."

Here in CA and most other states this will have only minimal impact.  In CA it is a matter of state health insurance laws as to what will be covered. More doctor's "Closely Held Religious Beliefs" are put aside when they are assured money that when it is not economic to deal with.  We need to get more states looking out for their own citizens, that is for sure.

same here in the Evergreen state, we should be ok (for now). However this rule when enacted in 60 days creates a patch work of regulations, some folks in "red states" would probably loose out....

yet, another take on the story from NPR

This would likely have a greater effect in states that don't have expanded Medicaid coverage and lack protections enshrined in insurance regulations, as does CA as Vicky mentioned.  Not sure what, if any, effect it would have on V.A. benefits for trans folk.  You can be sure that the Log Cabin Repubs will embrace it, though, because they are far more into their $$ than they are into LGBTQ rights and protections.

"Under the new rule, a transgender person could, for example, be refused care for a checkup at a doctor's office, said Lindsey Dawson, associate director of HIV policy at the Kaiser Family Foundation. Other possible scenarios include a transgender man being denied treatment for ovarian cancer, or a hysterectomy not being covered by an insurer — or costing more when the procedure is related to someone's gender transition."

Obviously, this is a brazen attack on trans people, discouraging us from transitioning or informing our medical professionals of our gender issues.  Easy to see through the thin veil.

"The rule could also mean that those seeking an abortion could be denied care if performing the procedure violates the provider's moral or religious beliefs."

Doesn't this conflict directly with Roe v. Wade at the federal level?

"He also said the rule could save hospitals and insurers and others $2.9 billion over five years since they will be relieved of the requirement to print notices of nondiscrimination in several languages and include them with any "significant" mailings."

Pure malarky.  They still have to print/publish those notices.

This is some seriously scary stuff. I’m not concerned short term but long term what the ramifications will be for us. I’m at the point where I’ll need trans care for the rest of my life. I can’t believe this is actually a possibility in this day and age. It’s a certainly a step back in the wrong direction.

Here in NH, the majority are catholic or atheist. Most of our schools and hospitals are catholic named and run by them. I've had issues in the past with catholic medical center for just admitting I'm bi. I can't imagine what's about to hit the fan now.

I took an involuntary swim wearing my quick dry hiking pants and shirt. Lifejacket not shown but present on the rock I am sitting on. Watson is dry now but I am still soaked. I capsized my kayak 5 feet from the shore trying to land on an island. Water in the pond was surprisingly warm considering it is early may in upstate New York.

Oh I will. He loves to just sleep on the couch and sleep. Not very active at all which I'm mixed about. Less to do but also want him to do more too.

We had a German Shepheard/Lab cross! It was actually our son's dog but when he moved out, Axel stayed here. ❤️ He was soooo awesome! Totally goofy, but really smart, and a million percent lovable. Unfortunately, he didn't even get to see his fifth birthday. 😢 He did both hind knees in quick succession, which were repaired, but he re-injured one and it wasn't repairable. The grief we went through after we made that horrible decision was far worse than anything we have ever experienced before or after.    @Ashley0616, please be gentle with his joints until he is all grown up!   This pic is when he was still a puppy.

When things seemed really rocky with my wife. I had thought about moving to the PNW. WA and OR are quite LGBTQ friendly. Even interviewed for a couple jobs there.   Hugs, Kymmie

Friday night was pizza night, which is actually pretty routine here.    Tonight was a bit of a seafood fry-up. Crumbed flathead tails pan fried, crumbed scallops and chips (fries) deep fried, and a salad.   Tomorrow night will be junk food at a football game.

I was admitted upstairs for observation. The nurse last night took one look at me and said, "we need to use a FEMALE external catheter on you."   They placed a PureWick catheter over me and it's working great. If there isn't anything to connect a male catheter to it just isn't going to work.   So far I haven't passed more blood, and my abdomen does feel better. A specialist is supposed to see me today and perhaps order a colonoscopy to find out where all the blood came from.
