MtF SRS at University of Colorado Health?

First post! I hope this is the place to ask...

Very briefly, as a little backgound, my situation is somewhat unique. As my intro says, I'm a 70 y/o transwoman who transitioned 25 years ago. Never having been able to afford SRS I had to settle for HRT and an orchiectomy. An out social activist/advocate in public, I was also active in the transgender community at local and national levels. To give you an idea, I appeared in a 30 minute documentary on the nightly news programming at the nearby by big city television station, I did and in-depth interview with the regional alternative news magazine,I founded and hosted a TG book club a the local queer bookstore, and I was a presenter at several gender conferences.

Then my life fell apart. In rapid succession, I was fired from my 6-figure job, my children were acting out and being disrespectful and I was insulted when a conference program listed my former male name in the credits. I was fed up and decided to up and move back to a rural part of olorado, the state of my youth, education, and the early years of my career. Settling in a small redneck town I felt it prudent to go "stealth" in a sort of androgynous role to avoid attracting what would likely be unwanted "Brandon Tina-style" attention. not really realizing it t the time this effectively put my transition on hold, leaving myself in a state of a sort of gender dysphoric limbo.  I thus entered into my 20-year ''Shelley Van Winkle" period  of gender hibernation, dropping out of all involvements in gender-related organizations.

Then the tape fast forwards to about 6 months ago when I had a run of health problems that qualified me for Medicaid. In a stroke of luck,  Colorado Medicaid covers a spectrum of treatments for gender dysphoria. My doctor has referred me to the University of Colorado's UCHealth Integrated Transgender Program in Aurora for vulvoplasty or zero-depth vaginoplasty (in a 20-year committed lesbian partnership, I have little use for a neovagina and all the potential complications and maintenance issues that go with it). I have my surgical consultation with the surgeon, Dr. Christodoulos Kaoutzanis there on November 6th.

This rapid, unexpected turn of events has awakened Ms. Van Winkle and set me on a rollercoaster of long-suppressed emotions and memories that date back to my childhood. My gender dysphoric life is literally flashing before me. For the first few days after having this appointment scheduled I sobbed uncontrollably with each painful memory and with tears of joy that this core problem that has dogged me since my earliest memories may actually be relieved before I perish. my fervent hope is that I hold on to a thread o sanity so as to avoid slipping into stark raving madness with anticipation before November 6.

Now I am trying to regain enough composure to prepare for this consultation with, among other efforts, a little due diligence. Two of the major unknowns to me at this point are how the UCHealth program stacks up and what Dr. Kaoutzanis' reputation as an MtF bottom surgeon is like. So I ask if anyone here has any experience with the UCHealth Integrated Transgender Program in general and with Dr. Kaoutzanis in particular?

Thank You All for Your Kind Attention,

Shelley

Many of us feel similar pain and trepidation, myself included at the very beginning my journey, even though being "mature" myself.  If you never give up, then its never too late.
I wish you all the strength and good fortune needed for the next steps .. You can lean on all of us here to help you with that.

Deep breaths ... one step at a time❣️

Shelley you will do fine!  It seems like your doctor is on your side and you will get great care.  As to the reputation of the surgeon, there are many talented surgeons that we never hear of.  There are a few MtF doctors that get all the limelight but many, many more quietly ply their trade.  I am sure you will be in good hands.  I hope your partner is fully supporting of your path forward.

I asked AI to create an image of myself 30 years younger based off my avatar on another site and this was the result:     Wow! I am amazed how close it got my 30 year old face!

Quite true.  The amusing thing about opposites is how similar they can be.   My family left Greece because of the conflict between the communists and the militarists/fascists.

This wouldn't even be a problem if they would just leave us alone.  It is a no-brainer.

OMG.  I'm glad it wasn't worse, and you were able to get on it quickly.  Lots of blood can be scary.

Like I said, I'm no tankie, but I do see a world of difference between Joseph Stalin and Bernie Sanders.   If the point is not wanting 'government control' the Right is pretty good at that themselves - as they've been demonstrating lately. This stuff gets complicated.

So, I am curious. Is the Governor going to mandate vaginal or penile recognition photos before one enters the restroom? Considering the Governor has no balls to do the right thing, will he have to pee against a tree outside? Inquiring minds would like to know. I love it when the job recruiters contact me about the wonderful jobs available in Oklahoma. It is so much fun telling them there is no way I will ever go to Oklahoma. When there are no workers, then they can shutter the place.

Ngl, probably Sonic the Hedgehog, the Beatles, or the Monkees. Those are the three subjects I know the most about so I could drop hours of info on them.

Isaac Asimov, Albert Einstein and Robert Kennedy, in that order.

Thank you! I'm out of coffee so I have been drinking hot tea instead. Looking forward to the 1st. It's crazy that we are almost in May. This year has flown by really quick! Good to hear that y'all got to sleep in. Hope you have a good weekend too!

It's nice to care about others but you need to live your life as you please. No one be your only source of happiness. Love yourself and don't look back. I lost over 40 family members it hurts but apparently, they didn't truly love me. True love will always be there through the thick and thin. I can honestly say that HRT has made me think in ways that I never thought I would. I get myself some shoes or clothes every month because retail therapy not only helps but it is a reward to myself to show love. I have over 100 dresses. I have a whole walk-in-closet full of clothes and 67 pairs of shoes. I love who I am. I was born in 84 so not all people in the 80's think that way. As far as the name just take your time and be happy with it. I knew I loved the name Ashley. Take care and welcome!

Congratulations Sam,   The common saying her once someone starts HRT is: “Enjoy the ride.”   Best wishes, stay positive and motivated    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

WOW @Ashley0616 it’s good that you have skills to treat traumatic injuries, as well as the ability to remain calm while managing others needs to get yourself and the boys ready to go to the hospital. Proud mama bear skills. I’m glad that he’s doing well.    Meanwhile back at the ranch, we slept in and I’m just now finishing my 3rd cup of coffee.    Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Well yesterday was not fun. I was getting ready to make dinner and I hear screaming and crying. I look over and my son put his foot through glass. He gashed near his Achilles tendon. Thankfully that is intact. I didn't freeze for a second. All of my military training came into play. I doctored him up and got Jett ready and myself and we headed to the ER. He is doing ok today. He says he is in pain but doesn't need Tylenol. He is a tough cookie!

Hi,   It's seems today is my trans birthday.  I'm beyond excited. Just picked up my testogel from the pharmacy. Although I naturally have doubts as I'm sure do we all, they are rapidly disappearing. Yesterday I was so nervous I kept claiming I'm not trans, despite grinning like a fool knowing I can pick up my prescription the next day. I'm shaking and on the verge of happy tears. I will put on my first sachet this eve. Thanks so much to this forum and kind words from people. This is the first forum I found when I began seriously questioning.
