@Shay That is so true about who real family is based on those that love and support you. I have had a little more luck with some of my friends from outside my blood family because they get it and are there time and time again.

I know I had a hard time not being a biological parent and having my step-daughter remind me that biology does not make a father or mother - love does....

Gosh - you hit the nail on the head - I've spent 40+ years trying to let go of my first marriage and the feelings of abandonment it entails -

@Shay, I am sorry to hear that you have held that burden within your heart. Everything happens for a reason. I felt abandoned for most of my marriage. I became even more self sufficient and stronger for it. You are better than the opinion of someone that doesn't desire you. Chances are they would have only hindered your growth. Be proud of yourself. Even when no one else is there, you are.
