Changes in My Preferences

Ivy

Recommended Posts

My house has a front porch that faces east.  I usually have my morning coffee there unless the weather is terrible.  As I was there this morning, I thought about how some of my tastes have changed in the last year.  For example, the coffee.

I used to make a full pot every morning and drink every bit of it.  Lately, I make some in a french press which makes a couple of cups.  But I never want the second one - and sometimes don't even finish the first.  Just don't want it.

And I used to prefer black, no sugar.  Now I want to add a bit of sweet.

I've kinda lost my taste for IPAs.  And now I find I actually like stuff like White Claw.  I've thought about it, and I'm pretty sure it's not me just trying to conform to a stereotype.  It's that my taste has actually changed.  And there is other stuff too.

I'm a couple years into HRT, with about a year and a half on E now.  I'm wondering if any of y'all have had similar experiences?

Oh yeah. Chocolate (well, sweets in general) was the big one. I used to be utterly indifferent. Now I'll pounce on it like a jaguar. I've discovered a love of herbal teas. Part of it is that our sense of smell improves on HRT I think. I have sniffed out packages of cookies. There's more nuance and I find myself tasting all the subtle notes in the things I eat rather than just the broad strokes. I'm still a chocolate snob though. I much prefer real chocolate to whatever it is that Hershey's squeezes out. Yuck.

It's just now that, sometimes, I'll put aside my distaste to suck down chocolate because I find I have to.

I'd really, really have to doctor my coffee. I still like the way it smells, but it's much too bitter for me and I cut caffeine out of my diet entirely anyway so I don't see what the point would be. Even coffee flavored desserts are sharper than they used to be. They're edging from, "This is interesting," to "This is a little gross."

Currently sipping a peppermint herbal tea for a jolt of alertness. I added a little honey for sweetness. It's quite lovely. I've got another caramel based one that I take before I go to bed at night.

Hugs!

I never had a sweet tooth. Now I'm like a kid for anything sugary and strawberry flavoured. My taste for beer gave way to red wine, then to strawberry and lime cider, which for some reason seems to amuse my friends at the pub!

Also, I never used to like baked beans very much, now I absolutely love them. Milder varieties of curry are much tastier to me now as well. I'm not sure if my tastebuds are more sensitive or just different.
