Never been more ashamed to be an Ohioan....

Whelp! Time to move to Denmark!

Not that I didn't see this coming, earlier Ohio polls were reported to be within margin of error, and we're so gerrymandered beyond belief (not to mention our blatant crook of a Secretary of State) that I knew full well it was inevitable. Still, depressing as all **** to be seeing 1930's Germany replaying-out in *cough* "my" state, thanks to all the brain-dead h**ks around here

Seriously depressed.

Yes, I live in Sweden. However, I am American and was born and raised in New England, so I share in this uncanny fear. How this could even be a thing is so beyond my understanding that it is all like a nightmare. Sarah McBride is certainly a bright spot in all this, and a beacon of hope for all of us; however, she will need support! Imagine the hate she will be showered with in this toxic environment.

This is truly troubling. How did America become so divided? How can so many people vote for hate?

I would caution against getting too agitated, regardless of the outcomes. The country continues to plod along, regardless of whomever seems to be "in control".

By design, the government moves along at a glacial pace.

The person "in charge" doesn't have nearly the effect everyone believes. I've seen directives come down, and everyone just rolled their eyes and said "oh sure, like that's going to happen".

Hugs

I am amazed that more of us do not see that this is how things have been since becoming a nation. Still, it would be nice if there was a happier middle ground for us to work from rather than struggling to see if there is one at all.

What really scares me is the willingness of the masses to blindly believe things told to them by msnbc and cnn when the truth is often completely different. That is what would make me leave the country.

if anyone on the “orange man bad” bandwagon is open to having their perspective shifted, I encourage you to view the following videos. They were made by a comedian/journalist who has decided to trend more toward journalism after seeing what passes for journalism in this country. He doesn’t fabricate anything. In fact, he uses clips and footage from the same conveniently forgetful media outlets who collectively lost their minds the moment Trump became president.

And of course, "the masses" who support our current president don't "blindly believe things told to them" by Fox News, AON, Breitbart and Steve Bannon.  Right.

To answer Abi, of course Americans have always had differing opinions, and I believe that is what makes America what it is to a degree. However, these differences of opinion have reached a crescendo, and have turned violent and divisive. This has traditionally been civil and polite, but is now about blind finger pointing and hate.

TommieAnne, apparently Trump has tried ot overrule this logic (that the president does not have "all that much" power individually). Lest we forget, he randomly tweeted that transgender should be kicked out of the military, when even those in charge had no idea what he was talking about, but it became a thing. There is no possible way, whether one is red, blue, or somewhere in-between, that a cool headed look at Trump's current behavior does not yield a juvenile "hissy fit." Do we really think that this is a person who should represent the USA to the world?

I truly understand your feelings, Heather.

It can seem we are moving backwards at times, but I believe the majority of Americans (even if not in your state) know right from wrong, and amazingly, over time, things will change for the better.
Its just hard perceive this sometimes.  Just like a river will very slowly change the landscape, but imperceptibly to humans focused only on the here and now.  Just look at the Grand Canyon.
So, take heart ❤️ and just try to improve whatever small things you have control over in your immediate environment.

@Heather NicoleI know that it's really hard to take a Social Media or even a Political break when we Americans choose a new President every four years. Then you and in the State and Local issues. Don't take the Mainstream Media so seriously. You have to look of the good in this election season. As @TommieAnnestated our social/political movement is at a Glacial Pace. Drop by the NOH8 Twitter Page for all the LGBTQ political winners.

TommieAnne, but in another sense, the bully pulpit is very powerful.  T. praised people for trying to run Biden's campaign buss off the road.  People feel empowered to be bullies because we have a bully with no respect for the law at the head of the country.  I am so shamed to be an American just by how close this election has been.  As a co-worker of mine said to me, "It's been a new atrocity every day for the last four years." -- Grace

I’m sure some do. However, judging my audience here, I didn’t see a need fo mention those sources as they were unlikely to be viewed by the majority here.

They’re also not the point. You can’t justify blindly believing one group of false sources while deriding another group.

False reporting is false reporting, no matter the source.

No, “T” didn’t because they didn’t. This another instance of false reporting. Every major outlet that reported on that bus incident intentionally left out the one angle that slows the Biden staffer intentionally trying to run one of the T trucks off the road.

OK, so this thread has devolved into. "Uh huh!" "Nuh uh!" I'm going to go ahead and lock it now.

I concur with Jackie C.  No new information is being introduced and I see no discussion of valid points of difference.

Your brother is the person who has decided that "sin" is involved because he has lost control of a part of his life by you taking on your authentic self.  It is not because you have committed any Sin per se, but because he is no longer controlling your life, evangelicism or other wise.  He is using formula words and ideas hoping to re-gain that control over you.  Your Roman Catholicism vs. his choices of religion would be enough to do it in many many cases.  Your being Trans is just one more area of his losing his control.   If your brother were also Roman Catholic, I suspect he would be the same way about you on just the Trans issue itself no matter what your priests would tell him -- he has lost control of your life and is afraid he has lost control of his life.    Family members of any religion who fear loss of control will often cite scriptures they believe support their Position.  If Bible verses are needed, Matthew. 10:34-8 which speaks of division in families over religion would be a casual point directed at your brother's control issues.

This might help. Back again love conquers all I don’t think my wife and kids would hold me hostage but if I explain it right to them it might prove how much I’ve lived them over many years

I am an evangelical  I am also transgender.  This is an issue. I have read up on it.  I am not an expert, but I have done a lot of reading.   One thing I do not get about people who take that position is that evangelicals are all about salvation by faith alone by Christ alone by grace alone - unless you are transgender.  Then you cannot be saved, these say, unless you do the work of un-transgendering yourself.  Which is, practically, impossible.  I have read the "solutions" and I don't buy them, obviously, because they do not work.    In evangelicalism salvation is by faith alone, Christ alone, grace alone, without any merit of our own.  That means, to an evangelical, we come to Christ as we are,  in the words of a glorious hymn,   1 Just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me, and that thou bidd'st me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   2 Just as I am, and waiting not to rid my soul of one dark blot, to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   3 Just as I am, though tossed about with many a conflict, many a doubt, fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   4 Just as I am, thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; because thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   We do not clean ourselves up BEFORE we come to Christ.  We let Him clean us up AFTER we come to Him.    Those who insist that transgender people cannot be saved are actually preaching another Gospel, a Gospel of works, and have wandered away from the glorious Gospel into works.  That is strong but true.   Struggling with legalism and grace, I have found more of God's mercy and grace available to me because I struggle with being transgender and seeking His resolution of it.  Which, not having the struggle, I would not have needed to seek Him earnestly on this.

Eventually, (especially if you start T,) things will even out. The excitement you feel is from everything being so new. Finally knowing yourself and having others recognise you can be thrilling. However, because it is your natural state of being, eventually that wears off. There's nothing exciting about it anymore because it's "just you." (Which is a perfect thing to be!) This, however, can lead to disappointment. Trust me when I say however, that that disappointment and jarring reaction to wrong pronouns will go away, and you'll once again feel comfortable in yourself.

I wear a wig most of the time.  But I can get by with my natural (shoulder length) hair if I wear a hat or something to cover the mostly empty top. Unfortunately that train has left the station, sigh.
