Smoking on Spiro/Estrodial

Good morning everyone,

I am currently on HRT <some> daily of Spiro and <some> daily of estradiol.

Has anyone else experienced hair loss? I have been on Hormones for approximately 1.5 years now and I am losing hair at an alarming rate. I am a smoker could this be a reason why I am experiencing hair loss? I'm getting very concerned.. I'm 21 Male-Female. I'm really at a loss with this and my confidence and overall self worth is really starting be effected by this. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated! I used to smoke 15 a day however I have it managed to 4-5 daily with a cup of tea of coffee. I have looked tirelessly for answers but I can't seem to find anything related to it. Would using a Vape Pen be a better choice than smoking? What is everyone else's experience with this.

Thank you!

If you're 21, it's probably something else. I had similar symptoms pre-HRT when my alopecia started. I'd haul myself to a doctor... actually you're Canadian, I don't know the protocol, but I ended up under the care of a dermatologist. I'm not sure if you can hit one up directly or if you have to go through anything like our maze of referrals. The point being that no, that's not normal and it's probably not your HRT. Please see a doctor as soon as possible.

Also not smoking is the best choice, but you knew that. Studies are showing vape pens are actually worse for you, though for different reasons.

Other advice: If your doctors can't help you (because alopecia is an auto-immune problem and some of them have a depressingly low rate of recovery) wigs are an option. There are perks to being modular.

Finally, had to edit your post. Rule #13 states that: Thou shalt not list the doses of potion given thee by the apothecary! We're all different and what might be right for you might be dangerous for someone else.

Hugs!

Oh, as a total aside I've seen it mentioned on surgery sites that the only patients they've had after GCS who were non-orgasmic smoked. If you needed more motivation, meditate on that.

I sincerely hope you can find a doctor who can treat you for your hair loss though. It's heartbreaking, I know. Especially on top of the rest of the dysphoria.

Hugs!

In my non-professional, totally amateur, non-medical opinion, it is unlikely that HRT is causing your hair loss.  I had hair loss for about 40 years until I started HRT.  Then it slowed down to almost nothing.  Not that there is much left to lose at this late date, but anyway...

Be sure that your doctor is monitoring your T levels, in case it is not being suppressed enough.

With another non-professional opinion, hrt should not cause hair loss. In some extreme case, when hormone levels are very very out of balance, you can see additional hair falling out but it should not be a loss. Also, it is possible for hair to go though a replacement period depending on how long you have been on hrt: old hairs fall out to be replaced with stronger e-infused ones ?. I went through a few months of that and while alarming it was just a phase.

If there are other medications that you take or possibly even vitamins, that could be a possibility for the cause of your issues. It is really hard to pinpoint something like that. It's best to talk to a qualified physician that can get a specialist to help. Best of luck.

@Loreleiit always sucks getting a ticket for passing a slower vehicle. I'm guessing the police officer was some distance behind you until you performed your passing maneuver. My most costly ticket was from a similar situation, however we were heading out of town and the last straight stretch of road to pass the two slower vehicles ahead of me was still in a 35mph zone. I didn't see the officer behind me and as soon as I pulled out to pass he turned on his lights and siren. Since I was in the process of passing, I figured the next safe place to pull over was at the upcoming roadside park. He didn't accept that and wrote me up for passing two gaps, speed in excess of 15mph over, and failure to stop. He did not care to hear about any fellowship in public safety, and no professional curiosities would be honored.  I did go to court plead my case and the judge, and he did see my point of continuing to pass with the intentions of pulling over safely at the roadside park. He was very familiar with the location. This allowed him to drop the failure to stop charges, but I did have to pay the full 15mph over speeding ticket. So my lesson learned was to never pass when entering or leaving a small town or village.   Hugs, and good luck in court.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Marriage complicates things.  We think we know someone… but then we don't. My ex supports me, but we're certainly not married.  She actually took me out for dinner a couple days ago. But if I said I didn't miss her it would be a lie.  That part is still hard. The hard truth is I had to get away from her, to have the freedom to find myself. Maybe it won't be that way for y'all.

Thanks April Marie & Timi for the warm welcome.

Kymmie, it's hard to think of her as an ally when she's still re-posting anti-trans information. On the flip side my wife is supportive of everyone else in the LGBTQIA community, and reluctantly supporting me.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I'm sorry you and so many others in the military, were assaulted and bullied, just for being who you are. I'm glad that you've seen your old therapist and seem to be better since 2001.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

@Sally Stone This is a great thread and resonates with me as well. Please keep it going!   +1 on leg hair. Mine basically stopped growing on its own in my early 30s (cause unknown), but I prefer the look. Was never comfortable with body hair.

One FB post from an old friend who lives 250 miles away and has no idea of any of this, and a news article this morning about someone with multiple mental problems  assert that transgender people are controlled by demons.   Me not happy.  Can't reason with some people.
