Hair/Facial Hair Worries

Hi friends!

I'm not quite there yet with any medical transition, still trying to grasp everything about what it means and what I could be looking at as far as mood changes, and physical changes.

I'm not a shallow person, but there are a few things I really want with my transition - one of which is to live at least a few years of my life with a full head of hair before I become one of the many men who experience MPB. My dad went bald at like, 25, and not even the sexy kind of balding that you can work to your advantage. Ugh. :( So, I assume that might be a problem for me.

The other thing I'm concerned about is facial hair. I don't know anything about my genetics as far as facial hair other than looking at a few pictures of my dad, where he had a pretty bushy beard - which I love. I want that luscious beard! ?

I suppose my question is really about how to keep a hold on your hair for as long as possible, and also the medications that may be able to help. Does the T gel work on stimulating facial hair growth?

Being that I'm heading in the opposite direction I don't think I can give you a lot of first hand experience.  I have taken T for a few years and here is what I experienced.  I definitely grew more hair on my body.  The hair on my face grew faster but not thicker.  I didn't lose any head hair but it did get thinner.

Keep in mind that genetics is a crap shoot.  All of my male sibling are able to grow very bushy bears.  My efforts look more like Shaggy in Scooby Do.  Two of them have MPD, I don't.

My advice is to not worry about things you have no control over.  Get on HRT for a year and see what happens.  There's always the Hair Club (That's a joke)

?Not there yet either with the medical transition wise, and haven't started HRT yet. But from what I gather, the men in my family have good hair till bout 70. But no beards, and fairly light hair wise round the body, maybe get the spikey shadowed under chin, but it wouldn't be anything wild, full or bushy.

I heard of Neem oil helping, but it is bad for the liver, so it's one of those use sparingly type of oils. Aloe, garlic, coconut, onion juice, and rice water are also good for keeping a health scalp. T will help grow hair everywhere else, especially in the southern forest.?

@sleepysam Again going the wrong way, but it will be your mum's dad you need to look at, as predominantly that will be who you take after.

I started to go bald when I was still at school, but honestly other than the usual lame jokes from the bullies it actually worked out well, women were drawn to wanting to touch the soft peach fuzz which made most of my friends jealous,?‍♀️

I also got the option to return all the jokes as their hairlines receded like the tide over time...?‍?

There are treatments and options available but how well they work is very dependant on personal circumstances. Just like everything else it will boil down to how confident you are with your own body, if you are content on T then that will shine out from you and folks will be drawn to it.

Hi @sleepysam

I'm going in the same direction but just like you I'm not on HRT.

But your questions reminded me of a post a read a while back from @A. Dillon that may help you. He talked about this on the context of pre HRT but I guess it could help with receding hair later when on T. Always better to ask your doctor, though. I link the post.

Genetics are a wild card, for sure. If I look at photos of my dad I'm in for baldness. If it is like @DeeDeesaid and I can look to my mother's father photos, I may end up with a luscious mane of white thick hair. So crossing my fingers here for when my time comes...

I found watching Jammidodger YouTube channel helpful. There are also others now documenting their transition. The info being put up now really helps prepare the mind for the journey.

I am about 5 weeks ahead of you ... best wishes to you! For me it has been subtle changes at most so far (if any) ... but I am also on the "beginner's" level of patch, lol ...    Easy

Oh, another comment.   I am a conservative evangelical with strong Republican leanings. So is my wife, my friends, my family. I disagree with a good amount of what the Republicans are doing, but there it is.  I understand the mindset, I think, a lot better than those who are outside it do.   When you insult Republicans you insult me, my friends, my family.   People like me can struggle with trans issues.   Please consider that in posting.

      Then you are in despair.

I found this as well. No playacting, they just appear: the finger waggle wave; bracing my elbow on my other arm that's folded across my chest, wrist in the air half-cocked; walking a bit more fiercely... All that. My wife thought I was mocking her at one point!

I find my lack of time to read the thing frustrating, and I will not really comment until I have read it.  This is a wholly inadequate response.   1.  I think there are some legitimate concern.   2. Thoroughly discussing this will consume many threads.   3. I disagree partially with @MaeBe but there is partial agreement.   4. The context includes what is happening in society that the authors are observing.  It is not an isolated document.   5. Trump, if elected, is as likely to spend his energies going after political opponents as he is to implementing something like this.    6. I reject critical theory, which is based on Marxism.  Marxism has never worked and never will.  Critical theory has problems which would need time to go into, which I do not have.   7. There are groups who have declared war on the nuclear family as problematically patriarchal, and a lot of other terms. They are easy to find on the internet.  This document is reacting to that (see #4 above).   8.  Much of this would have to be legislated, and this is a policy documented.  Implementation would  be most likely different, but that does not mean criticism is unwarranted.

Sort of bracing myself for flipping, because I am wearing f and of course I wear f and it is natural to wear f and what else would I wear?  The  novelty is long gone out on this.  I wore a bra most of yesterday but we had a Zoom call and I took the bra off because I was concerned about the straps showing.  I missed it.    My body is saying "I am female!  Treat me that way!"   In the past it has screamed about this activity that  I have done to it.

This is what I'm scared of.  And it's quite possible. Apparently Chicken Little was right.

Whether it was a hate crime or not, it's still horrible.

Finally I  am back online   I had to use the help of the contact form (not proud  of that, I always feel embarrassed and shy about contacting people), but here I am   missed all of you

I'm not happy to admit this, but I usually scream or break things.   Breaking things became a bit of a no no, because It was always a cd or something I liked and it got very expensive to replace stuff

Probably amusement parks. I've never been to one sadly, but I think I could talk for an hour about them without any problem
