The reason why there isn't a definitive guidline written is because everybody finds out in their own way how they feel and who they are. It's a personal journey of growth that occurs, when the individual finds they can't tolerate the feelings that lead them to the questions to solve the distress. Society doesn't have all the answers written down, and therapist and doctors do their best despite the diversity and social support (still being a work in progress). Nobody goes straight to HRT. But those wrong feels and discomfort at first depends on who's feeling them. Not everybody feels the exact same way or at the same time.

Jani already said a lot about the subject also. People do the HRT and some don't, it's a personal option open to what the individual feels it satisfactory to there needs.

Thank you for checking back in Lauren.  Finding a new counselor will help I believe.  I can understand that our SO's thoughts and opinions are important to us and their acceptance is critical IMO.  

 

Possibly few speak of that awkward initial period is because it is painful and confusing.  But it is real and we should talk more about it.  It is a time of self doubt for many and if we focus we can move forward.  I'm sorry we could not help you in this regard.  We will try to be better as it is a valid issue to address.

Maybe the best way to do this is to start a thread dedicated to sharing these feelings as a group and then maybe we can compile a list of things that seem to affect the majority of us the most. I am not sure but, I definitely agree with you. Self doubt is really hard to overcome alone. That shouldn't have to happen to any of us.
