Switching to injections

Hi everyone, I know my hormone dosage will change since my orchiectomy but I was curious about switching to injections from the patches because there really hard to stay on and irritate my skin pretty bad. I was wondering if injections were much more expensive than patches. My doctor was concerned that the injections would be considerably more expensive than patches.

After my orchiectomy i actually was able to lower my E.  I had been on patches but as youndescribe i had issues.  I used ac cream for a bit but found it a bit messy.  I'm presently using a spray which evaporates on my skin quickly and has done an excellent job.  Topical applications are safer especially for those with any circulatory issues.

Only your insurance would know if injections will be more expensive or not. What you can do, lookup injection medication cost in your area (there are plenty of sites that can do that) and expect that if covered by insurance the actual cost will be slightly lower. It was my understanding that patches and injections were roughly the same price, so not sure why your doctor thinks otherwise.

My suggestion would be to just ask the pharmacist you use. They should be able to bring it up on their computer and tell you pretty easily.

I have actually spoken multiple times to my endocrinologist about injections. After my GCS I switched to patches but was unable to reach appropriate levels of E in my blood. So we switched back to pills.  My endocrinologist ( I go to a university affiliated MD) has never utilized injections and is unsure of attempting them. I actually go for my six month check up today and am going to speak to the team again about them. I’ve ran into a huge issue since my GCS by gaining almost 40lbs. My surgeon thinks it is related to my hormone levels not being regulated properly. So hopefully can come to a resolution soon!
