Obviously, we here don't need convincing; but this clearly and simply lays out how wrong the R's and their allies get the science and medicine regarding trans kids and sports.  It's got some great talking points.  Of course, getting the science right doesn't fit the right's agenda, so they are compelled to ignore it.

A large problem we are up against is that the conservatives think their model of sex and gender are the only ways to be mentally and socially healthy. They cannot let themselves see us being as healthy as they are. When we accept our gender variance, we are actually the more healthy of the two groups because of the psychological challenges we have met and conquered. Along the way we have had to resolve issues in addition to just the gender that they do not see a need to be cared for.

Early scientists that they rely on minimally were Cis gender who researched Trans with the ideas of making them Cis and justifying even treatments that we find cruel and barbaric today.  The fact we did not get made Cis by those treatments or "cures" as envisioned by the researchers has made us seem to be threatening to society.  It is this fear and our resistance to to making things they way they want that goads them on to what they are doing.  They do not and do not want to believe recent scientific work carried on with the premise that we are quite healthy and it is their fear and distrust that is unhealthy.  Both of those premises are what the current wave of bona-fide scientific research is making clear are the actual status of Trans people and what goes seemingly against the theology of conservative churches  who are afraid of losing credibility and public power.

Totally agree Vicky. The science of yesteryear was (IMHO) based on a false paradigm or at least an incorrect baseline for their studies of trans individuals. The science will eventually catch up as the scientific paradigm shifts but it takes time and of course politics seem to slow that process down considerably. The people in control don’t like change...for obvious reason.

Spot on, Susan.  and that is why the Trans community has become a target for the Right.  Its not about science or even morality ... its about finding a marginalized group in society that can become the focus of a rallying cry to keep a hold on core of the Right Wing's "Base". 

When the greater society rejects their arguments and laws  .. then they will go looking somewhere else (let's hope)

It's been their go-to move since at least Regan. If facts don't agree with your ideology, make up new facts or go with disproven theories. It probably doesn't hurt that the median age in congress is about 110. These people grew up before television and they're making decisions for a VASTLY different world. Add in "no desire for change because the current system made me richer than Midas" and you have a recipe for disaster.

 

Which is borne out in the results of their policies. Social and economic disaster.
