Officially Requested Name Change with Probate Court

Well - I finally did it. I submitted my request for naem change to I can get my documents changed. I already have gender change approval with my state DMV but now I'm going for the whole nine yards.

 

Offically I will change my name to Heather Michelle Shay and put the old name to rest. Why 3 names? I like all 3 and my friends like Heather but Shay won't let me go and those who want to call my by my old nickname can do so if they feel more comfortable - just don't call me ....

Well, you can throw a dinner party when the change is approved by the court!!  That way you won't be late to the dinner. Congrats and best wishes.  I consider my name change to actually rate just a couple of points higher than my GCS since I share my name more often than I show something else.

Congratulations! Legal name changes are such a big step in so many ways that its hard to wrap it up in one short message. The best part though, has to be be having all your identification papers say, "I am Heather Michelle Shay" with no other explanations needed! When it gets finalized, make sure to try it out too! Sign up for a new credit card, go buy some alcohol, get a speeding ticket... and enjoy every sweet moment using your name!

@Kathy2020 PS - gave up alcohol 15 years ago and not too crazy about getting a speeding ticket but your point is well taken.

@Shay Well Heather, you can replace buying alcohol with any other card-qualifying act. Do ya think the theater will ask for your ID to an R-rated movie when they re-open? ? You can also scale down the speeding ticket to a warning... both will get cute officers to use your name and ask for your phone number, address, and signature! ?

Congratulations! That’s so cool that you have three names. Everyone is bound to love one of them. I really like Heather myself. So pretty. I’m going through the same process here in Japan, but we can only have one name. (Even middle names are illegal!) I feel so happy when people use my new name. It’s so frustrating trying to convince people that I’m the (male) name on my current ID. “Is this really you?” “What’s your relationship to this person?” “Do you have any other ID?” I have to admit that part of me was happy that people couldn’t believe I was male, but I’ll be happier not to have to go through that. Congratulations again, Heather! Good luck wrapping up the process.

I’m starting my name and gender change this week; much earlier than I initially planned. I wear a badge at work and I have to legally change my name before I can change the information on my badge (govt job). Congratulations on taking another crucial step in being you.
