Ready for the next step of transition

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately and I feel I am ready for the next step in my transition. And that is the starting of using my authentic self name and I have also decided to use the long version of the first name Miannette. I will still use the short form of Mia, but on paper I will work to become Miannette Marie Hannah. I am planning the start with my doctor and therapist. As soon as I can I will work on the courts to get my documents changed so that I can leave the old me behind.

There is a lot of cost in having all of it done. I have a doc appointment next week for my 9 month and I think if I read it right I have to have a letter from my doc and therapist. I wish I could get in the list for grs. Maybe after my 1 or. We will have to see.

I just inquired about the process and procedures for coming out at work and changes in paper work. Was really scared to send it but I am showing some changes but not sure if noticed by others I work with. It was necessary to open talks with HR. It feels like it is time to begin my female life and see about others getting my pronoun right.

That would be scary @Mia Marie. I was lucky that I changed jobs just as I went full time a few years ago and didn’t have to go through transition on the job. I wonder on occasion if that would’ve prolonged my coming out process because of that fear. I know I would’ve done it eventually but the fear is real.

 

You’ve taken a big step and now that it’s done, I’m sure HR will help make it as painless for you as possible for you. Just focus on that fact that you are doing this for your personal well-being and is a necessary next step. Congrats to you!?

Have your changes been pointed out by anyone else in your life?

 

Please be patient with people about the pronouns.  Just my opinion, but I think we have to earn our pronouns, as much as anyone else owes it to us to address us a certain way, especially after they've known us different before. 

 

This is likely to change things for you and everyone around you at work.

A friend with whom I told has noticed some of the changes. I felt it was time to start coming out and be authentic. I have even sent an email to the Dept of Vital Records in Mississippi to see what I need to do to get my birth certificate changed. I was born there so have to inquire there. I am hoping I won't have to go before a judge there. I know they are fighting against us.

That's great, taking ownership of who you are is such a load off the stress level.

@Mia Mariecongrats - I too am offically changing my name as of June 15 - I have my court appearance and being in an unsafe area, the judge waived the need for me to publish my request in the local news. This has helped revive my wife A LOT but I didn't plan to move ahead at this time if my request was not granted.

 

I have passed the 10 months mark and at my 1 year my HRT NP will supply referral letter as will my therapist and her associate who I used to see. In Ohio and the surgeon who I've chosen for surgery who takes Medicare (only way I could afford it) I need 3 letters, 1 medical, 2 psychology and those are now lined up. Once the 1 year mark is met I will be able to set up the consult. 

 

Don't know the rules in Texas but I hope you don't have any hurdles you find hard to jump.

 I have a doc appointment next week for my 9 month. With that on mind I found a list of cost for making the change and what I need it the point of submitting my petition to rhe court. All rhis I plan to talk over with my doc and see what she is ready for me to do. If it was totally up to me I would expedite as much as I can. I did get a promising email back from HR today and that makes things look up at work.

I don't think it matters where you are there are always huddles. My biggest one will be my birth certificate. I think that has to be done in the state you were born in. I could be wrong though. It's just a guess.

A correct guess though. Your birth certificate needs to be handled through your birth state because that's where the records are at.

Being that I was born in Mississippi that means an uphill battle. From what I read they only have 1 transgender care clinic in the whole state and the current government has been trying to shut it down. I hope they don't try to shut my hopes and future down for their ignorance?

@Mia Marie where there is a will (and you certainly have the will) there will be a way.

Of course they also say where there is a will there is a lawyer but that does not apply here. 

Ohio is also pretty oppressive but I'm making headway and won't stop - you don't stop either.

Worst case - documents are only pieces of paper - you know who you are and there is all you will ever truly twice.

The thing is I will need that document change to make the document changes for work and financial needs. I do pay for legal at work and may need to call on them to help with the situation.

Well, I just sent MS Vital Records an email asking them what they will need in order to change my info on my birth certificate. Just have to wait to get back some form of response. Crossing my fingers they won't fight this.

I had my 9 month HRT follow up and it went good. I also received my letter for changing my legal docs so all my papers will have the real me on it. I wasn't sure if my labs would lead me to injectables but it for at least the next  months when I hit my 1 year mark. I will also have to get my first mammogram to make sure all is going good. I know all will be OK so no worries.
