What Questions should I ask at my first consult for MTF GCS bottom surgery?

I've met WPATH requirements, have my referral letters from therapists and HRT NP, found a highly recommended surgeon in state who accepts Medicare and completed required hair removal. I have my first consult in October and wanted to reach out to ask what questions you veterans of the process recommend I find out.

Thanks,

Heather Shay

Follow-up care if you turn out to need it.   Why the doctor may have different ideas than you will hear on the internet.   How does the doctor rate the hospital food where you will be going.  What the most common issues are as far as post surgical infections go for the doctor's patients. (Yeast infections, Urinary Tract Infections, etc.)

I would also provide the doctor with a permission for disclosure to your regular medical help, especially if you know who your follow-up or ER care for wound help, include them in the permission to share, in both directions.

Those can get things started at least.

@VickySGV I knew you'd come through - thank you Vicky I just know I won't know enough to ask.

Dr. Z interviewed Dee Wingarden and about 1 jour in she talks about how little pre- ops and post-ops know about care and she would love to be able to teach and care for each post-op being a nurse and post-op  in the 80's. and she really made me think that I want to be as prepared as I possibly can be when my consult happens.

Thanks for the info. I've already had my first meeting. I have already given hospital and primary doctor permission, but forgot to give surgeon permission to share with my hospital and primary. If I remember correctly,There was a permission to share in my patient packet, but good idea to give specific people. I got my MD letter. Getting my first Therapist letter tomorrow and hopefully second one soon after.

Congrats Shay.

Does the doctor have you stay in bed for the first few days or do they get you up and moving as soon as possible?

I would find out the post-operative pain management, infection prevention strategies during the first 48 hours (such as prophylactic antibiotic use) blood clot prevention, when you can start your hormone therapy back, bowel function induction after anesthesia.

As far as surgical questions - I asked what is the surgeons focus - aesthetics of functionality (given your going for a full depth versus zero-depth) type canal. Success rate with nerve regeneration and satisfaction with patients and their sensation.

All of those were my questions.

@Kylie Thank you - I know you are a nurse and very knowledgeable from experience and that helps.

I have researched my proposed surgeon and have read only superb reviews and my HRT NP at Equitas Health Care mentioned her independently when we discussed surgery.

Here is a video of podcast she was on...........

Jennifer it is good to see you here sharing.  I was perhaps fortunate when health issues forced me to an early retirement.  Suddenly that freedom became a freedom to let go and i started to drink myself towards death.  Any presence of control disappeared.  I am blessed to simply be an alcoholic as i've found it is so much easier to never drink again than to keep trying to contain to keep that wild beast at a "comfortable trot".     Big Hugs,   Charlize

We live with the idea that they won't try to erase us, however, all one has to do is look at the early 1930s in Germany. More recently, look at what Putin did in Russia. Transition has been banned in Russia. We tend to think of the current struggle in the US as a R vs D proposition, yet there are forces internationally that question our very being. I wonder. I wonder what comes next. It is truly amazing how a group so small as we are, is singled out so clearly. We have about 5 1/2 months until things become clearer and possibly scarier. God help us all!

      Very right-handed.  And right-eyed.  Probably right-footed too, though I haven't really noticed.

Back to our normal Friday night pizza here. We normally get a Supreme with hot pepperoni.   Tomorrow will be a bit unusual as far as Saturdays go. Our second daughter always comes over for dinner on Saturdays as long as we're here and we leave it up to her to pick. So, roast lamb it is! With potato, butternut pumpkin and carrot segments in the air fryer with a red onion thrown in as well, and peas boiled on the stove, and whatever instant gravy we decide to nuke.

Right handed, but as a kid I always rode a scooter with my left foot on the deck and pushed off with my right, which apparently is not normal.

Good morning everyone,   Parker didn’t make any noise in his crate until 05:50 and that’s my clue to take him outside. Once outside he finds out the overnight rain has the grass wet, and despite my coaxing he does his business on the patio. That’s better than in the house. At this early stage before my coffee has finished brewing. Who’s training who? I’m going to slide his feeding times up the clock to a more reasonable hour. The breeder/farmer got the puppies day started at 05:00 when he would let his dogs out to run the farm. This included mom and puppies. I’ve become accustomed to sleeping in, so we’re going to work on sliding his activity schedule a bit. Parker (dog) and Sheldon (cat) are warming up to one another, Amy (cat) is having nothing to do with the invading puppy.    Second cup of coffee is going smoothly now that the pets are settled in their windows and back door.    Have a great day,    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
