Hopefully with more exposure, there will be more education leading to laws, health coverage, and medical advances for the transgender community.

Good for you, MaryEllen! That was exactly what I thought when I read "American Man"'s idiotic screed. Talk about protesting too much! This guy has serious identity issues of his own. If we eliminate him (and since he is so irrational I think that's justified), most of the other comments are basically ill-informed and some are even supportive. Prejudice based on misinformation can be combatted, as long as people listen. And except for AM and his ilk, I think most will listen, now or eventually.

Call me an optimist, but what's the alternative, really? If we all make it through, I believe that 20 years from now there will be much more acceptance. And until then, we all have each other. (As a parent, I am part of the transgender community, and proud of it.)

ROFL I'm sorry. I just couldn't help myself. The devil made me do it. Click on the link and scroll down to the comment made by BillieJo in response to American Man"s offensive comment. I used the alias BillieJo cause I don't want that nutcase idiot coming anywhere near me.

I told myself not to look at comments, but had to look at the American Man one, xD.

I gotta say...I'm sort of proud of myself for not getting too fired up or upset. I know that there are people like that out there, and my road won't be easy, but at the end, it isn't like people like him are going around doing strip searches to find us and beat us, eh? I know that doesn't leave us completely safe, but the point stands. He's just an ignorant person, and he really believes what he says. It's unfortunate and wrong, but that is his true belief, and it is hard to change that.

It's somewhat comforting to hear about Chaz, as long as he stays safe with all the dolts roaming around. I'm happy to see another man standing up and taking the steps to be himself. And it seems like trans news is being breached more and more into every day society...very slowly. So maybe, like gay rights now, over time we'll become more accepted. Never fully, because there's even still racism around, and as long as there are humans, there will be nonacceptance...but at least we'll get more than we do now. Viva la revolucion! x3

Imagine tomorrow that someone appears on TV after turning themselves into something 'freakish'. Imagine that they distorted their vocal cords so that they could not speak properly. They had ink put into the soft membrane in their eyes, literally giving themselves 'eye tattoos'. Imagine that they tried to give themselves gills, but they didn't work and they had tons of breathing problems and sounded like they were wheezing all the time. Say they genitically modified their very skin so that it turned green and had dull, flaky scales. Now imagine that these people wanted the right to work anywhere, live anywhere

And here would be my thought on that. (Cuz I entertained this nimrods "panic" to see where it led) What if you encountered this person? What if you had to step up to the dmv counter and this was the person waiting on you? Ok....What? Yes, it might be something unusual for you, yes you might look at this due to that, but truely would it affect your world? No. You still would do what it was you were going to do in your life anyway. This person's arguements asks people to "rid the world" of ANY type of people that is less than comfortable for them. They may as well have said, someone with psoriasis, a hair lip, and aleopecia, because "they do not want to look at that". I would suspect this is the same person who doesn't want "that retarded kid" bagging his groceries or "that woman with the leg she has to drag behind her" sitting next to him in church.

Well said, Quinn and Evan. And thank you, Donna Jean, more than I can say. I'm not incredible, but I really needed that hug.

I had a feeling someone would bring that up, 'cus personally, I feel the same way. However, the difference between us and them is that we're open-minded and already understand that "freaks" aren't all the media and our peers make them out to be.

You and I already understand that if that person were to seek employment at our office, even though they may be "weird" by our standards, they may have similar interests to us and may be cool people in general. We know not to judge a book by it's cover, because we can think beyond our first glance, first encounter and initial reaction. Other people, like those who are ill-informed, are generally underveloped in comparison in that regard and thus won't look beyond what's thrown in front of them. They look at a pineapple and see only the rough, inedible outer layer and turn away then and there, when further inspection would have revealed the sweet fruit on the inside that they are now missing out on.

I am saying that their way of perceiving the world is currently flawed due to a lack of education on these important matters. Even though their perceptions are flawed, that does not mean we should not understand them. We have to see things through their eyes if we are ever going to combat their ignorance. It would be hypocritical of us not to take the time to look at things through their perspective if we are to ask them to do the very same for us. We can't simply demand that they study and understand us- we have to be the ones to set the example. Plus, if we don't take the time to understand things from perspectives other than our own, then we are just as flawed as they are.

Yeah, that's exactly the point that I was trying to get across. Ignorance can be combatted whereas stupidity doesn't need to be; why waste our time on something that'll drown itself out in the end anyway?

I have been wondering if Chaz's gender issues were the true reason behind Cher's movie MASK. It now makes so much sense to me no since we've lived behind mask's all of our lives until ve get tired of the and rip them off and shatter them.

Hi, Riya and welcome to the forums!! You find lots of veterans here and many of us are in fairly early stages of transitioning. Ask questions, and jump in wherever you feel comfortable adding to the discussion.

I've been fortunate in growing my hair out. I had a few thinner spots - typical spots - but have been using Hims' hair growth treatment for about 6 months now and it had made a tremendous difference. I'm not sure how long I'll let it grow but I've been thrilled with how it's turning out.   Today I'm wearing this olive green high waisted 3/4 balloon sleeve midi dress with white sneakers.     I also received these today. Found them on eBay. I've been looking for a pair of brown riding boots but finding them in my size is hard and typically expensive. These were on end of season sale plus they gave me another 10% off so I ended up at about 40% of retail. They fit perfectly (12M). Unfortunately (or fortunately) boot season is over so I'll put them away until Fall.

A little bit about myself. I am a veteran and college student. I’m here to align myself and to continue to grow. I myself so happen to be a transgender woman. This is as far as I have made it in transitioning. Looking forward to the future!

Your brother is the person who has decided that "sin" is involved because he has lost control of a part of his life by you taking on your authentic self.  It is not because you have committed any Sin per se, but because he is no longer controlling your life, evangelicism or other wise.  He is using formula words and ideas hoping to re-gain that control over you.  Your Roman Catholicism vs. his choices of religion would be enough to do it in many many cases.  Your being Trans is just one more area of his losing his control.   If your brother were also Roman Catholic, I suspect he would be the same way about you on just the Trans issue itself no matter what your priests would tell him -- he has lost control of your life and is afraid he has lost control of his life.    Family members of any religion who fear loss of control will often cite scriptures they believe support their Position.  If Bible verses are needed, Matthew. 10:34-8 which speaks of division in families over religion would be a casual point directed at your brother's control issues.

This might help. These are the grace and lace letters dealing with Christianity and transgenderism from someone who struggled with the "conflict".   https://www.digitaltransgenderarchive.net/catalog?f[collection_name_ssim][]=Grace+and+Lace+Letter&sort=dta_sortable_date_dtsi+asc%2C+title_primary_ssort+asc

Back again love conquers all I don’t think my wife and kids would hold me hostage but if I explain it right to them it might prove how much I’ve lived them over many years

I am an evangelical  I am also transgender.  This is an issue. I have read up on it.  I am not an expert, but I have done a lot of reading.   One thing I do not get about people who take that position is that evangelicals are all about salvation by faith alone by Christ alone by grace alone - unless you are transgender.  Then you cannot be saved, these say, unless you do the work of un-transgendering yourself.  Which is, practically, impossible.  I have read the "solutions" and I don't buy them, obviously, because they do not work.    In evangelicalism salvation is by faith alone, Christ alone, grace alone, without any merit of our own.  That means, to an evangelical, we come to Christ as we are,  in the words of a glorious hymn,   1 Just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me, and that thou bidd'st me come to thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   2 Just as I am, and waiting not to rid my soul of one dark blot, to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   3 Just as I am, though tossed about with many a conflict, many a doubt, fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   4 Just as I am, thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; because thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come.   We do not clean ourselves up BEFORE we come to Christ.  We let Him clean us up AFTER we come to Him.    Those who insist that transgender people cannot be saved are actually preaching another Gospel, a Gospel of works, and have wandered away from the glorious Gospel into works.  That is strong but true.   Struggling with legalism and grace, I have found more of God's mercy and grace available to me because I struggle with being transgender and seeking His resolution of it.  Which, not having the struggle, I would not have needed to seek Him earnestly on this.
